H10 Big Sur Boutique Hotel

Location of the Bug Sur is excellent which was the primary reason for us booking as our normal hotel used was full. The entrance provides a wow factor on entering. All the staff were very pleasant. The service for drinks at dinner table could be a bit better.
We booked a superior sea view room which was ok and had sun loungers. The bathroom could do with a deep clean and the rainfall shower head was completely clogged with limescale and required changing on arrival. Problems we feel are worth a mention are (1) Room 214 poor air-conditioning in rooms as this although blowing did not cool the room at all - maintenance response good but problem never fixed (2) the staff on the breakfast shift are very loud, constantly chatting and clattering dishes. This doesn't give a good start to the day (3) very limited food choice in the evenings Overall we wouldn't stay here again

Overall we had a good stay. The hotel is clean, service is good and reception were great at dealing with queries. Location is fantastic. Pool and bar area sufficient.

However, we expected better evening meal options. We have stayed here before and the quality this time was mixed compared to previous occasions. Can not pin point the exact reason for this but it did seem to vary on certain evenings.

One evening the restaurant had a Chinese theme which was fantastic then on our last two evenings it was a case of trying to make a meal. The show cooking on one of these occasions had hot dogs on offer, straight out of a jar or a tin which nobody was choosing. And rightly so, as this is a 4* adult only hotel and who's really going to choose hot dogs for their tea? It's surely a childrens option.

The middle section used to have a great selection of salad options but this has been severely reduced and is not replenished often enough. The warm food options are often not replenished and goes cold. The canarian potatoes on one occasion were cooked with their roots attached. Potatoes are past their best if roots start shooting out. Alongside this example of poor quality control, we were a bit concerned of cross contamination happening on the show cooking area. E.g. the same prongs were being used for meat, fish and vegetables when they should have kept been separated.

We have recently been to other hotel chains in Spain and Cyprus where the food has been quality and I would put this down to the hotel manager constantly being present. They were making their presence known and checking the standards were as they should be for a 4* hotel. I know different hotels operate differently but food is one of the main things that brings a customer back. Our experience with the food has really questioned whether we will come back again to this and it is a shame.

If the evening food was better quality then this review would have been a 5/5. Please sort it out for future guests.

A recent review stated that management had said this was a non-smoking hotel in response to a point made about smoke drifting into bar area. We returned from this hotel yesterday. We had a superior sea view room with sunbeds on balcony. All balconies have ashtrays on the table. We are non-smokers but the people in room next to ours did smoke on their balcony, smoke wafted over to us and into our room when door was open. Guests smoke on the sunbeds around the pool and on seats outside the bar area. As the bar has no windows all smoke drifts in, it was something we commented on the first night we arrived and went into the bar. There is no smoking allowed in bedrooms or inside the building but on balconies, around the pool and outside areas it is allowed.
