We are currently still at the hotel. I did address the General Manager this evening about our gripes. But felt I was talking to deaf ears.
This is our 4th stay at this hotel and in our opinion it has gone downhill to what we have had in the past.
I explained to the Manager that having to keep paying for water at over 3 euros a small bottle was a joke and obviously a money spinner for the hotel. I was told its company policy. It needs addressing with the company if this is the case.
Yes we were aware that this particular hotel does charge for water, but on this occasion and after staying in 5 star hotels all over the world it really annoyed us. For a 10 night stay for instance, if both of us have a small bottle of water with dinner it is nearly another 70 euros for the duration of our stay. No water is supplied in the rooms unless you pay for it. Let’s be fair water is a necessity and should be supplied free of charge.
We also thought the quality of the food had gone downhill. I love a poached egg but the eggs offered are on display in ramekin dishes. Some look raw others are way over done. Definitely NOT a nice proper poached egg. No proper sausages at breakfast, just hotdogs chopped up. Food can be repetitive and some nights it has been Tuna done 5 ways. We ate at Krystal’s last night and the food was dreadful. Tasteless, the so called pate was a firm custard with some sort of drizzle on it. This was a tapas not a dessert. The menu did not state that the steak came with quinoa which it should for coeliacs One lady was a coeliac in front of us and complained. The service was very quick. One course straight after another.
Our cleaner has not been the best and we found she does not make the bed properly under the top sheet. Our sheets have been left rumpled and uncomfortable. We asked for a topper as the mattress was quite firm and my Husbands side was sunken. The topper was supplied but is far too big for the bed and hangs over the side. The floor is sandy so has not been washed, every time we get on our bed we have to dust our feet off as it makes a mess on the bed.
It is a shame as it is a relaxing hotel and a few tweaks would make it so much better.
This is a lovely hotel. We have been going twice a year for a good few years cos we love the location and the hotel. BUTa couple of points. The Spanish restaurant hasn’t changed their menu for years the staff look bored and unhelpful. We finished a course and waited at least 20 minutes before we ever saw a waiter. I think they were having a chat round the back. I will try once more, we are returning in September. AND we have never been offered a room upgrade in all the years we’ve been visiting. Fingers crossed for September 🙏
This hotel surpassed my expectations. The staff and food were both wonderful. Staff went out of their way to provide an excellent experience. The hotel is very nice indeed and in a lovely location.
This is a lovely hotel where the staff are so polite, helpful and nothing is too much trouble, it’s pretty high end stuff. Waiter/ waitresses serve you at the table and treat you like royalty. The place is spotless, the rooms spacious with lovely views and entertainment in the evenings wasn’t too bad. Food was brilliant, all cooked well, plenty of it, good variety and if anything too much choice, probably one of the best I’ve stayed at. The location is perfect, if you like weed smoking, drinking excessively and swearing it’s not the place for you, this is a quiet relaxing location where you can easily access the beach, there are a few old people but also lots of youngsters, very few children those here are well behaved. Sandy beaches and views of the sunset. Taxis are on hand, 16 euro ish to Las Americas. I’d also recommend the dolphin and whale watching tour, it was good, we went with White Tenerife tours.
Beautiful hotel in an unbeatable location. We stayed in a sea view room and the views were amazing – definitely one of the highlights of our stay. I am giving this hotel five stars because we had a lovely holiday, but if I'm comparing it to other Riu Palace hotels, especially Riu Palace Maspalomas in Gran Canaria, I do think there are a few areas where it could improve. For me, the restaurant staff don't quite have the same smart appearance as at Maspalomas, where they wear shirts and waistcoats that give the whole dining experience a more five-star feel. Here they wear polo shirts, which just doesn't have the same effect. The pool and bar service could also be quicker. There were a few times we were waiting a while before anyone came over to take an order. It's not a major issue, but it's something I noticed compared with other Riu Palace hotels. I've also stayed at Riu Arecas next door twice before, and I honestly think the service there is every bit as good, if not better. Considering Arecas is much cheaper, it offers excellent value for money. If this hotel is rated five stars, then Arecas certainly deserves the same recognition. That said, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back. The hotel is due a refurbishment soon, and I'm looking forward to seeing the changes when it reopens. It has everything it needs to be one of the best Riu Palace hotels, and I hope a few small improvements to the service help it reach that level.
