Fergus Style Tobago

Local tourist tax was €62:00 (ouch). Must admit that we had not budgeted for this so it meant one of our planned excursions was scrubbed. Modern fixtures and fittings throughout the hotel. Clean, bright and welcoming. Staff were fantastic in every department.
Food selection was buffet style but there was plenty of choice for breakfast and the evening meal had a different theme each day. We upgraded from B&B to include the dinner as we found the local prices were very expensive to eat out. €20:00 per person for the week. Our room felt more like a cabin on a cruise ship. Compact. Frosted glass door to the toilet could be off putting to some. Shower was great with gel/shampoo & conditioner provided. There are 2 draws for storage but they open into the area by the shower. Open hanging for clothes and plenty of hangers. Room safe, fridge, kettle, coffee machine, cups, glasses and a few tea bags and coffee pods provided. Large bottle of water in the fridge but once that was gone a trip to one of the many local supermarkets was required. Huge TV mounted on the wall opposite the bed. It had a wooden surround than I managed to bump into a few times as it stuck out from the wall. Desk with a chair. Also a tub chair and a large pouffe. Made the room feel a bit cluttered. Wall sockets had USB ports which is a nice, modern, touch. Washbasin with soap and a enormous round mirror. No plug in our basin though. Couple of sunbeds on the balcony with a table, 2 chairs and a drying rack. We didn't use this area much as it was devoid of any sunshine during our stay. Room was very clean. Beds were made and fresh towels every day. Jet2 advertise the location as Palma Nova but it is misleading. It is actually Magaluf. We certainly had a few noise issues from people going back to their hotels in the early hours but nothing major. Complementary beach/sunbed towels are provided. Card system so you can exchange for a fresh towel regularly. Clever photography makes the pool look big but it isn't. 1.7m deep at the shallow end but 60% is 2.4m deep so most people seemed to gather in one area. Orientation of the hotel means that the sun didn't get onto the majority of the pool area until after 12:00 noon. We used to have some time on the beach before lunch and then to the pool area. Gate access from the hotel and a short walk to the beach. Guests reserving sunbeds was an issue. I witnessed beds not used for 3-4 hours before someone returned. I think it was supposed to be policed but we didn't see any evidence of it. Bar staff circulated regularly to provide a drinks service. There was a pool and bar on the roof but use of the pool was an extra charge. Nice to have an evening drink and watch the sunset. Small gym with resistance machines and weights but no cardio equipment. Live entertainment on a few of the nights.

This is a lovely hotel in a fabulous position at the end of the promenade in Palma Nova. The hotel is tastefully decorated and is in excellent condition throughout. All of the staff are lovely, attentive and polite; shout out to Carmen in the restaurant. It was lovely to see the restaurant staff paying particular attention to people travelling on their own or with additional needs. We stayed in room 1515, which was a double with sea view. The view of Palma Nova bay was outstanding. The rooms are on the small side, which didn’t bother us, the quirky layout makes the most of the space. We stayed half board and there was plenty of choice at meal times although some of the dishes could be on the cool side so maybe something for the hotel to look into to ensure the dishes maintain temperature? But overall couldn’t fault the food. The only negative from our point of view would be the main pool area, which is lovely but when we visited the sun did not reach it until 10am and, apart from maybe the elevated section which is quite small, there wasn’t an area of the pool that had sunlight throughout the day. On the first day we chose sun beds that started to get the sun at 10am but then by 1pm we were in the shade so had to move to the other side of the pool which was then starting to get the sun. We did end up spending two days on the beach due to this which is most unlike us! You also have to enter the pool via steps that are on the side of the pool (similar to a swimming pool) so not ideal for everyone although there is a hoist available. Whether the pool is in the sun more during the summer when the sun is higher we obviously can’t comment. The roof top swimming pool/bar has stunning views. The only sunbeds in this area are Bali beds that you pay a minimum of €75 euros per day for which includes drinks and snacks. There are seats with foot stools that you can use. There were some nice touches throughout our stay including a fruit platter and a bottle of bubbly to celebrate our wedding anniversary and on the last evening a glass of champagne each with our evening meal and we didn’t have to pay for the water that we ordered (not sure whether this applies to everyone as we booked direct with the hotel). The hotel is a stones throw from Maguluf but you would never know unless you ventured in that direction. As mentioned the hotel is at the end of the promenade which goes along the whole of Palma Nova. There are numerous restaurants along the sea front which all look very pretty especially in the evening when they are lit up and they are all happy for you to go in just for drinks. There are also plenty of other restaurants/bars/pubs just in from the promenade so there is plenty of choice. Overall we would return.

Such a lovely hotel so clean and tidy. The staff are world class so helpful and attentive, nothing is too much trouble and they are all so attentive, we’d come back in heartbeat.
