VIK Hotel San Antonio

Great location for every thing, hotel has been here a long time and can do with a refresh update in some areas. Staff we met have all been excellent and helpful. We are still in the hotel room 4716, which has great views of the pool and beach.

We just recently spent a week on holiday at the VIK San Antonio resort. The hotel itself is a nice hotel, the rooms are spacious and the housekeeping service is excellent, in fact probably the best and most efficient I’ve experienced in a hotel for a long time. The beds were always made well and the bathroom cleaned nicely with fresh towels every day. The reception staff were always helpful, and answered all questions well. They were always friendly and helpful with excellent service, for example if you needed to order a taxi they would do it for you on a online system and it would usually be no more than 5-10 minutes before it arrived to pick you up. They offer a pool towel hire service at $10 deposit per towel which you get back at the end of your stay if you present the ticket given to you when you take the deposit out. Nothing was to much trouble for them. The restaurant had an excellent choice of breakfast, lunch and dinner food, with the staff extremely nice and friendly. We were all inclusive and glad we chose this option of board. A wide selection of food, something for everyone. I would rate the food a 7/10 in my opinion, everything was nice and fresh but the only downside I would say personally is I found a lot of the meat quite tasteless and chewy. A wide selection of soft drinks, spirits and beer. Cocktails were not included, only the cocktail of the day. If you wanted any other cocktail, you had to pay for it, which I found a bit strange for an ‘all inclusive’. Ice creams outside at the pool bar were also not included and had to be purchased. All areas of the hotel including toilets, pool areas, restaurant and bedrooms very clean and tidy. Now for the major downfall of this hotel, in my opinion. We visited as a group of three, one of us 19 and two of us in our early twenties. I am pleased we stayed close to the strip, because the entertainment at this hotel is absolutely dire. They had a different ‘act’ on every night. In my opinion, the entertainment was awful. One night they had a singer that didn’t even know half the words to the songs he was ‘singing’. Considering this hotel claim to be for all ages, the entertainment was heavily catered to the over 60’-70’s in my opinion. Most the evening entertainment was definitely for the older person. We were very disappointed with this. The quality of it was also not good. The hotel could benefit from doing some interactive nights, like karaoke, a bingo etc with small prizes, it was all just sit and watch quietly. Absolutely no entertainment for the children at all. This obviously did not bother us as we had no kids with us, but an observation I soon picked up on. The had a children’s club and pool, I cannot comment on these facilities as we didn’t use them but useful for people to know. The daytime entertainment was 1 or 2x a day water aerobics at the pool, and I saw one of the girls play bowels with a few elderly gentlemen one day. That was it. There didn’t seem to be anything else going on, anywhere. Such a shame, because with a bit more liveliness and enthusiasm, this hotel could be great. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. But we probably wouldn’t return for these reasons.
