This impressive resort boasts an excellent range of facilities and is ideally located in Playa Blanca. The resort offers the perfect spot to relax in this quiet fishing village on the south coast of Lanzarote and enjoy the island's year-round sunshine. Find your own piece of paradise at one of the ten swimming pools or unwind in the spa. The local beach and marina are also within easy reach. The bus stop is also just a few minutes walk away, where guests can take advantage of the free shuttle service to Playa Dorada beach.

Great holiday overall, but the entertainment was disappointing
We had a fantastic holiday overall, but there were definitely a few areas where we felt the hotel could improve.
Entertainment and animation team
Our biggest disappointment was the entertainment team. We felt that the activities and entertainment were very heavily focused towards French guests, and there were times when this became quite noticeable.
During our stay, the team seemed particularly friendly with one specific group of around four people. They had the entire front row in the entertainment dome saved for them and the entertainment staff would often spend time with them around the pool during the day. During one performance, the team gave popcorn to this particular group, which unfortunately left very little for the other children. Some of the children were visibly upset as a result.
We also found that the animation team would often walk past families with children during the day without interacting with them at all. This may not bother everyone, but compared with other hotels we have visited, there was much less engagement with the children.
There was also a 30 to 45-minute gap between the mini disco and the evening show where there was nothing for the children to do. One evening, a Frozen song came on and all the children got up onto the stage and started dancing. However, they were quickly told to get off the stage and the song was switched off, despite there being nothing else happening at the time.
We have stayed at other hotels where the children’s entertainment has been much better, so personally, I would not recommend this hotel if evening entertainment and children’s activities are an important part of your holiday.
The hotel and facilities
The main pool was great and there were plenty of sunbeds available during our stay, even towards the end of August and beginning of September. It tended to get busier from around 2pm onwards, but we still had no problem finding somewhere to sit.
The pool could occasionally get a little dirty due to the wind blowing debris from the trees into it, particularly towards the bottom, but the majority of the pool was generally fine. The smaller pools outside some of the hotel rooms looked a little less well maintained, so we chose not to use those.
We never saw the crêpe van open during our stay, which was a little disappointing.
The hotel itself is laid out almost like its own little village, which we really liked, and the gardens are lovely. You will also definitely see some of the cats wandering around the resort, which the children absolutely loved.
Rooms
The rooms were spacious, but in our opinion, they could definitely do with an update. We also didn’t feel the cleaning was particularly thorough. Our bathtub had a large stain in it, and overall, the room felt as though it could have benefited from a proper deep clean.
One positive was that the safes in the rooms did not require a deposit, which made a nice change.
Food and drinks
We stayed self-catering, so we cannot comment on the hotel’s main restaurant. We often went into Playa Blanca for food or occasionally had food delivered to the hotel if it was too late to go out.
The pool snack bar was very reasonably priced. We paid around €15 for two cocktails and two soft drinks, and the food was good for a poolside snack bar. The staff working there were also really lovely. The reception staff were fine as well.
The on-site shop was okay and the gentleman working there was very friendly.
Other useful information
Getting a taxi from reception was incredibly easy. You simply gave them your room number and the number of people travelling, and a taxi usually arrived within around five minutes.
We had a late flight home and, as checkout was at 12pm, we used the on-site showers near the shop. They were clean and saved us paying €40 for a late checkout.
We also used the laundry room during our stay, which was easy to use. You don’t need to provide your own detergent as the machine dispenses it for you. It cost €5 per wash and €4 per dry.
The back gate is also open from early until late, so a key is no longer required.
Overall
Despite a few negatives, particularly with the entertainment team, we had a fantastic holiday. We would definitely visit Lanzarote again, although we would probably choose a different hotel next time.
There is definitely the potential for THB Tropical Island to be a really nice hotel, but we feel the rooms could benefit from an update and the entertainment offering could do with a rethink. The entertainment is run by Ôvoyages/Ôclub, so this may be something outside of the hotel’s direct control, but it was the main aspect of our stay that we felt could have been significantly better.
Holiday
Location of this hotel is great considering the taxi set up that playa blanca have. The onsite supermarket is pretty poor but Aldi down the road is amazing. The pools are second to none but are not maintained that well, especially the ones near the rooms. The rooms are so run down and need updating badly. Kids Entertainment is awful, only in French so my kids were not very happy. The daily entertainment team are a joke. The snack bar is the worst I’ve ever seen!
I did have a great holiday mind, the room with the outdoor pool was perfect for self catering although run down. No problem getting sun beds and the big pool was great for a swim. Slides were great too, same with the splash water park.
I wouldn’t trust the cleaners so use the safe !!! A lot of people having things stolen on the Facebook page
The fish and gardens are beautiful! And would recommend.
Didn’t experience the food but going into playa Blanca every night was a treat, some amazing restaurants especially eroticia Indian.
I will definitely be back to Lanzarote but I wouldn’t come back to tbh tropical island although the room layout with the pool is perfect and the price is hard to beat. So basically if you have the money go elsewhere but if on a tight budget tbh is a good location but don’t go all Inclusive
Large family
We have just come back from a week here as a family of 6 and I must say I wouldn’t return the entertainment team is by far the worst we have ever had anywhere hardly any daily activity’s for kids and the kids club is not much better for such a large complex I did expect more. The rooms are ok beds are comfortable and they clean daily you can get some ants but I find this in most places just have to keep on top of cleaning. We have been to Port Del Carmen 5 times before trying player Blanca and for a family the town and beaches are much nicer in port del Carmen. I’d give the hotel 6/10
⭐⭐⭐ Disappointing experience – not what we expected from a 4-star hotel
We have just finished our stay at THB Tropical Island and unfortunately left feeling very disappointed. We normally stay in 5-star hotels and sometimes 4-star, so we were not expecting luxury, but we did expect a good 4-star standard. For us, this felt closer to a 2–3 star hotel.
The resort is huge and has some lovely features. The pond with all the fish was beautiful and our children loved it, and the main swimming pools are very good. The lifeguards were also professional and attentive, although I feel there should be more of them considering the size of the resort and number of pools. The children’s pools are very shallow (around 40 cm), so younger or less confident swimmers may enjoy the main pool more ( around 1.50cm)with a properly fitted life jacket or flotation aid.
Unfortunately, the apartments are very outdated and need refurbishment. We stayed in a Premium apartment and found considerable wear and tear, including a very worn hob, damaged finishes, cracked walls and a sheet with a visible hole. The apartment also needed a proper deep clean.
We were four people but only had three forks. We asked for another one and it never arrived. The safe couldn’t be used because we were given instructions for a different model. We were told someone would come to help, but I waited over an hour and nobody came. The room telephone was also not working.
The food and drinks were very basic for a 4-star hotel. Drinks were mainly from dispensers, the ice cream was poor and even the coffee was from basic machines rather than a proper espresso machine. Personally, I would think carefully before paying extra for the all-inclusive.
Maintenance is another major issue. Some children’s facilities looked very worn, one water-play area was closed, and we saw a broken wooden barrier around the pond with parts sticking out for more than four days without being repaired.
We also found the resort very French-oriented, with much of the entertainment in French and some staff having limited Spanish or English. We have nothing against French guests, but as the hotel is in Spain, we expected Spanish to have a stronger presence.
The hotel has great potential and some genuinely good facilities, but the condition, cleanliness, food and service did not feel like 4-star quality. We would give it 3 stars at most.

It was such a lovely experience with the evening entertainment, excursions, swimming pools, classes and so much more. We travel a lot but this was special. One of us has allergies and the chef made him special food every day.
