Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
This 4-star hotel is ideally located on the beachfront of Las Coloradas, between Playa Blanca village and Papagayo Beach, on the south coast of Lanzarote. From the hotel you can enjoy stunning views of Fuerteventura and Lobos Island. The hotel offers guests a free shuttle service to Playa Dorada Beach four times a day.
Very large hotel made up of different blocks. We had a Seaview room with a lovely view. Check in was quick and efficient. We had upgraded to RE which we were very pleased with and glad that we did as the restaurant was quite chaotic at times. Thought it was very under staffed and tables were left with dirty plates as staff tried their best to keep up. Also lots of food under tables which I dont blame staff for as if my child dropped food I would clean it up myself but unfortunately not everyone did.
Pool areas weren't cleaned properly as we saw same rubbish on floors and under sunbeds for a day or 2 .
Daily room cleaning was very basic and we had to ask for replacement coffee etc which should have been replenished every day but wasn't.
Entertainment was good and all staff in the hotel were very friendly.
Despite my comments we had a good holiday but the hotel in places was looking tired which was a shame.
Spent 10 nights here between 27th August and 6th September. This was our 12th stay here. I will divide this review into 3 sections - good things, bad things, and a very unfortunate ending. Good things - it's really great to see Sandos spending some money on this property and upgrading some parts. The new tiles around the sun terraces, new furniture in various places, and the renovation of some rooms and suites is excellent. The food in all the restaurants is overall very good. Shame that it's sometimes cold, but buffets are generally nice. There's always something nice to eat. Staff are lovely. Everyone. Really good apart from Reception, but more about that later. Special mentions to Ana, Alfonso, Jessica and Teresa. The views over the Strait of Bocaina are stunning and are really what keeps us coming back. The Royal Elite service is brilliant. The lounges are excellent and the restaurant is good. Our bed was very comfortable and our suite was spacious. The air conditioning was fairly good too. Bad things - mainly other guests unfortunately. People who leave their dirt and mess behind them and expect others to clean it up. Spilled drinks, dishes, drinks cups, litter, dropped food, even a pair of dirty women's knickers (I kid you not - they were on a fence post for 4 days). People who don't know how to eat from a buffet. People who don't know how to use a communal swimming pool. Dreadful, ignorant, dirty people. There was the usual fight for sun loungers in the morning. Even up at 7.30am, beds were still booked before we got there. Our shower didn't let the water run away and we reported this to reception, but no-one ever came to fix it. The evening turn down service consisted mainly of 2 chocolates on the bed. The wet towels were left in the bathroom. A very unfortunate ending - 3 hours before we were due to leave the hotel, easyJet texted us to say that our flight back to Edinburgh had been cancelled. At reception, we were told that nobody could check room availability for us to stay more nights and we'd have to do that ourselves online. We asked if there was a computer/PC that we could use to check and we were told NO. You have to do it on your phone. Seriously??? Thanks for your help in our hour of need, Sandos. Turns out, another guest helped us by lending us her iPad. Sandos Papagayo was fully booked and we couldn't stay. We had to move to another hotel for 2 more nights until we could get a new flight home with Jet2. Instead of Sandos Papagayo recognising that we were in a pickle, they turned their backs and wouldn't help. Poor.
This year we came back for the second year in a row and plan to go again next year. We both times adored the hotel and all of the staff. Entertainment staff all very kind and great fun, hardworking and felt like they were our friends. Bands and shows were fab, would love to see more variety like something Spanish/flamenco/salsa related. Not sure about other people but when I go abroad I want to escape England and would love love to see more traditional culture as well. (Not a moan, just a suggestion). We always love the food, so much variety (I am trying to locate the recipe for the coconut cake if anyone has it pls?). I can’t complain about any part of the holiday. More machines and some air con in the gym perhaps but can’t think of anything else.
I also wasn’t aware of the upgrade you can be given if you go back again, hopefully next year we might get an opportunity to try this.
My coffee machine didn’t work in the room and cleavers didn’t replenish milk and sugar etc but it didn’t really bother me, again just a nice touch for the future.
We used to go somewhere different each year this is the place we have come to love and will be back in 2027 for sure x
We have just returned from an amazing holiday here! The staff were all fantastic, the food was great, entertainment excellent. Rooms were all clean and comfortable with lovely balcony. We all relaxed, ate well, drank well and had excellent customer service . We would book again without a doubt. An excellent family holiday
Cleanliness is poor around the pools. Sun-beds are not moved to clean under. One toilet for everyone to use near snack bar is a health hazard, faeces in floor. Courtesy room is not serviced between users. We had to clean floors with discarded towels , empty over flowing bin whilst waiting 30 mins for towels to be provided. Email sent directly to hotel in return, 1 week ago, no response from hotel. Really disappointed .
