H10 Lanzarote Princess

We came back from a 10-night break here a couple of weeks ago and have some positives and some negatives to share.

First of all, the staff are generally nice and accommodating. The reception staff were friendly and looked after us during our stay.

The rooms are ok. My GF wanted to move as soon as we checked in. I didn't care, but tbh, she didn't the day after either. Good-sized TV, bed comfortable enough for the holiday, and the shower and facilities are all fine. Our room didn't have a great view, and nothing about the room felt deluxe to us, but it was comfortable enough. They provide a free minibar, stocked only once, but it's a nice extra in your room.

As we went in October, I think it was perfect in terms of how many people were staying there. There were enough people so it didn't seem deserted, but it wasn't crowded, so you could always get a sun lounger at any time of day and always have a table free at every meal. The temperature was 28-30 degrees, which was ideal too.

The drinks were pretty good and standard for an all-inclusive. Some premium spirits are available, like Havana rum, and the cocktails are above average for all-inclusives I've experienced.

I don't have too many comments on the animation team and entertainment in the hotel. We are two couples with the age range of 35-40, so we went out each night and didn't pay attention to what was on. It didn't look too great, but maybe that was because it was later in the season and they don't do as much when it's quieter.

The food is what you would expect from an all-inclusive. It's not 5-star food, but every visit and meal, all four of us found something we liked to eat. The breakfast is very nice, with a wide selection, and they even do English bacon, which is a nice touch if you like living like Alan Partridge for the majority of your holiday.

The location is ideal. You are across the road from two lively bars, the beach and a short walk to the market. If you walk to the right, you’ll find all the restaurants and shops. Tbh, in terms of location, you probably cannot do better in a hotel elsewhere.

The two a la carte restaurants on site you can book once on your stay are worlds apart. The Japanese is more like an experience than a meal, as they cook it in front of you, you are sat with other diners, and the general meal was really good. I feel the quality of the duck I had let it down a little, but that was the only bit I would mark down. All our party really enjoyed this evening.

However,

The Italian restaurant was of really poor quality. I didn't mind my meal too much, but one of our party was unable to eat her starter and believed she had left her main course too. None of us rated the food or evening positively. I wouldn't advise booking here. We commented that some of the dishes tasted like tinned food. The buffet is of better quality.

Whilst staying here, our bathroom mirror fell down whilst we were out; they came and removed it and replaced it the next day. Not sure why I mention this incident, as it didn't really affect the holiday. It was sorted in 24 hours, though.

The two negative comments I have about the hotel are that the air con was so loud, although I'm not sure if this was the case in every room or just ours. In fairness, we didn't raise it with the hotel, but at times it sounded more like a lawn mower than an air conditioner.

And finally, for some strange reason, the main negative of this holiday is that you are not allowed to use any balls in the large pool or any inflatables. I understand the inflatables to a degree, but one of the lifeguards removed a young couple with a small baby because they were using a tiny float. It was bizarre. I don't know what happened in the past that led to these rules, but most people go on holiday to enjoy the pool. So if I were the hotel, I would look at removing this and let people have their fun.

We had a nice holiday, and the two points mentioned didn't really ruin our trip. Would I stay here again? Probably not, mainly because I'm not sure I'd go to Lanzarote again. It's a nice place with good weather, but it's not very big. I feel like we got to see what Lanzarote offers on this trip alone. If we did go to Lanzarote again, I suppose I would stay here again. I'd just leave my ball at home :(

We had a great holiday with no problems at all. Our room was just the basic double (2013) which was comfortable and more than adequate. Hotel pool and facilities were lovely, food was as expected for an all inclusive buffet and drinks were branded. The Italian restaurant was nice and made a change. The Japanese restaurant was exceptionally good and we had a lovely experience there. There is something for everyone here, we were two couples but I’m sure families wouldn’t be disappointed. The location is great, the staff were very friendly, the resort is beautiful so what’s not to like. The hotel is reasonably priced and remember the holiday costs also cover everyone that works behind the scenes to make your stay enjoyable. We have had many holidays in Playa Blanca and would not hesitate to return to the Princess. Don’t listen to the moaners, visit and see for yourself.
