5 nights at bluesea costa bastian

Just returned from 5 nights at this hotel. Single parent with 2 children under 10. First thing to highlight is the food. Wow its bad. So bad my kids lived on melon and chips most days with something simple like chicken nuggets only being available 1/5 nights we were there. A lot of the food is prawns, shellfish related and considering this is a family hotel they really do not cater for it which left mine and a lot of other children struggling to find enough to eat.

2nd point is the pool area. Pleasant and clean but the 'lifeguards' if you can call them that are more like security guards. They spend all their time blowing their whistles and waving their fingers rather than keeping everybody safe. The 2 kids slides are dangerous as they just let child after child go down with no time in between. This caused so many to get hurt. There was an incident where a young girl fell into the pool and clearly couldnt swim. The 'lifeguard' didnt see because he was too busy putting sunbeds away at 4:30 pm when the pool is open until 6pm. Pool not opening until 10am and having no shade cover is poor too.

Room was fine and cleaned daily and the minimarket was good with really pleanst staff.

Evening entertainment was ok but kids minidisco only lasted 30 mins sometimes less and was then straight into bingo so at 9pm there is nothing for young children.

I do now see why it was much cheaper than other alternatives in the area. Was on OK experience but unless above was rectified I would most likely not return.

Do not use this hotel if you have any form of disability

What started as a good experience ended in a deeply concerning and upsetting way.

I have a hidden disability and while using the accessible toilet, another guest was able to walk in because there was no functioning lock on the door. I reported this to Guest Services simply to make them aware of the issue and, hopefully, ensure it could be addressed for other guests.

Unfortunately, the response I received from a member of staff was extremely unprofessional and upsetting. Rather than acknowledging my concern about the lack of a lock, she questioned whether I was actually disabled and told me that the bathroom was “not for me” because, in her opinion, I was not disabled. She then told me that she would no longer speak to me because the bathroom was not for me.

I was not asking for special treatment. I was simply reporting a safety and privacy issue that could affect disabled guests. Instead of being listened to, I was made to feel judged, dismissed and unwelcome.

The way this situation was handled was incredibly disappointing and has completely changed my view of the hotel. Accessibility is not just about having an accessible toilet—it is also about ensuring disabled guests are treated with dignity, respect and understanding.

TripAdvisor Review
If I could, I wouldn’t even give this hotel one star.

We arrived here as a family of six — four adults and two children, aged 2 and 7 — expecting a relaxing family holiday. Unfortunately, this has turned out to be one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had.

Our booking clearly stated two Superior Double Rooms, yet when we arrived, we were given twin rooms. We were told that the beds could simply be pushed together and that apparently this is what their “double rooms” are like. Although this was disappointing and not what we booked, we decided not to make a big issue out of it.

Then there is the food. This hotel advertises itself as a 4-star all-inclusive hotel, but the food selection is extremely poor. At lunch and dinner, you will often find no more than three main dishes to choose from. On some days, they do not even have something as basic as French fries at lunchtime. As for desserts, there are usually only two options, and they are practically the same every single day. This is nowhere near the variety or standard I would expect from a 4-star all-inclusive hotel.

Even getting a drink from the bar comes with an unnecessary inconvenience: you have to pay a €1 deposit for a plastic cup, which is only returned when you bring the cup back. While I understand the idea of reducing waste, it is yet another detail that makes the so-called “all-inclusive” experience feel anything but comfortable or premium.

However, the most serious issue — and the main reason I would strongly warn families with young children or elderly people against booking this hotel — is the complete lack of shade around the pool area.

There are sun loungers, but no parasols whatsoever. We were told that the hotel does not provide umbrellas because of the wind and for “safety reasons”. During our stay, however, there has barely been any wind at all. And even if wind genuinely prevents the hotel from using traditional parasols, that does not excuse a 4-star family hotel from providing some form of safe, permanent shaded area.

When temperatures are around 30°C, expecting families with toddlers and young children to sit around a pool with absolutely no proper protection from direct sunlight is completely unacceptable. Guests should not have to choose between staying locked inside their rooms during the hottest part of the day or exposing their children to prolonged direct sun and the risk of overheating, dehydration or sunburn.

A hotel that welcomes families should consider the needs and safety of children, elderly guests and anyone who cannot remain in direct sunlight for long periods. If umbrellas genuinely cannot be used because of safety concerns, there are plenty of other solutions: fixed canopies, covered seating areas, pergolas or other permanent shade structures. Simply providing no solution at all is not what I would expect from a hotel presenting itself as a 4-star resort.

What makes the situation even more frustrating is that these are not small cosmetic complaints. A limited buffet is disappointing; receiving a different room configuration from the one booked is frustrating; but failing to provide adequate shaded areas in intense summer heat is a genuine concern for guests’ comfort and wellbeing.

I genuinely feel that we wasted our money on this hotel. In approximately 20 years of travelling, I cannot remember having such a disappointing hotel experience.

My advice, especially to families travelling with young children: think very carefully before booking this hotel. A holiday should be somewhere you can relax and enjoy time with your family, not somewhere you spend your days worrying about how to keep a two-year-old out of direct sunlight because the hotel has failed to provide basic shaded areas.

Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel, and I certainly do not believe the experience we received reflects what most guests would reasonably expect from a 4-star all-inclusive property.

Worst “all inclusive” holiday ever! Avoid

I would not advise anyone to stay at the Blue Sea Costa Bastion. What should have been a relaxing family trip turned into one of the worst-managed hotel experiences we’ve had, and it wasn’t bad luck — it was a hotel that consistently avoided responsibility and showed a genuine lack of care.

Within minutes of entering our room we found flies in the bathroom; by that afternoon there were around 50. Staff gave us spray but no dustpan/brush (we had to borrow one from the bar). Hours later the flies were back in the same numbers, now in the bedroom too. At 11:30pm I asked reception to move us and was told flatly there were no rooms available — only for one to “appear” 15 minutes later once I provided photo/video evidence and refused to back down. When we asked if someone could simply walk over and see the room, staff refused, became defensive, and one man raised his voice at my mum. They wouldn’t give us a manager’s name. The receptionist then let slip this exact room had prior fly complaints — they knowingly put us there anyway. Sandra, Carmelo and Mario - all unhelpful and rude!

Food was genuinely poor — repetitive, bland, some inedible, like a school canteen, with flies around food areas too. We also weren’t told in advance that drinks aren’t included 11pm–midnight, despite paying for all-inclusive; staff were dismissive or rude when questioned. On top of this, there was a strong sewage smell through reception and corridors, and littered, unmaintained outdoor areas and hallways.

The only bright spot was a lovely lady at the mini-market and her manager Pablo, who were warm and genuinely helpful — a stark contrast to the rest of the team.

Overall: a consistent pattern of poor hygiene, poor communication, and staff who avoided accountability at every turn, during a trip meant to include a birthday celebration. We will never be returning, and I’d strongly discourage anyone else from booking this hotel. Don’t bother wasting your money

I would like this escalated asap!

Couple break away

Me and husband went away for a break away . We had never been lanzarote so we're reserved on our stay . Staff are all friendly there . Food was decent for what u pay . Drinks decent if u want more of a buzz go for something with a mixer over a cocktail. But the cocktails were nice and refreshing. only issue with drinks was one night we went to the square a s returned 11.30pm ans thought a out grabbing one last drink from inside bar. We got told all inclusive drinks stop at 11pm and would have to pay . Wasn't aware of this . The pool is a decent size cleaned each morning before everyone descends . Yes it is cold but u get used to it ans I thought it was nice after being in the sun for while . My kids would loved the kids pools. Our room was clean and air con worked ok . I even woke up in middle night freezing and had to turn ours down a setting . Tv decent I found a few movies and british programmes on there . If you have a fire stick it can go in the tv . Also decent WiFi there.
You can easily get taxi from there. To wherever you want . Would recommend the square plenty to go there . And stunning walk along the front aswell .

All in all a good holiday.
