The delightful Hotel Riu Don Miguel is located on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain, which is a small continent that offers you everything from desert landscapes to exuberant vegetation.

The cuisine of Gran Canaria is an authentic ocean of flavours and aromas that has influences from all over the world, including a range of fruits, vegetables and fresh seafood. In the “à la carte” restaurant and exquisite buffet restaurant you'll find the best local and international recipes, with many dishes prepared using healthy ingredients.

Needs updating!
Stayed for a week and the hotel is in a great location, a couple of minutes walk from the Yumbo centre and good public transport. Not far from the beach either (15 min walk approx)
When we arrived we noticed flooding in our room, when we returned to reception to notify them they explained that the fridge will have been defrosting and to use towels. They would send someone over later. When we returned to the room we noticed previous water damage around the room. Someone did eventually come and unplug the fridge. Our room was spacious but very basic (note that you do not have access to a kettle etc). There is only a safe and empty mini fridge). Our balcony was lovely and faced onto the pool (note you may see more than you bargain for on other balconies!!). Due to the location of the hotel it can be noisy at night with traffic and I did struggle to sleep because of this. The evening entertainment was underwhelming and the hotel was quiet at night. During the day the pool area was busy but you can always get a lounger (at least when we were there). It is full of lots of different people but there is a lot of smoking (even though it says no smoking) and people playing their own music which can be a bit overwhelming. The pool itself was very cold and there was often something needing fixed. Beware that you only get the one towel (plus one swap if you are luxury) for your whole stay which seems really silly unless you pay by the day).
We were half board and found the breakfast really bland/boring. They do a bit of everything but not very well. It seemed very unhygienic, with people coughing into the food or their hands and then touching the tongs. The coffee was the worst I’ve ever tasted and the juice tasted watered down. The food was quite dry from sitting under heat lamps for a while. This hotel felt like they were trying to take money from you at every opportunity. The dining room often stunk of smoking from people and staff smoking in the open garden. Overall the hotel is in huge need for modernisation and desperately needs better evening entertainment.

Bad hotel
Stayed here for 2 weeks the room we had was falling to bits. Handles coming off draws had a leak in bathroom and had to move rooms like 5am in the morning. Room full of damp . When we arrived the was leaks throughout the hotel. The breakfast was very poor and had to eat out every morning watered down orange juice. The food was atrocious to say at the least. Only thing good about this hotel was location being across the road from yumbo. Had a burger on last day at the restaurant and had to send it back as it was raw! Would never come back and would not recommend this hotel to anyone!!
Sad to say… Needs Updating.
The reason why we have scored it 2 stars is that the rooms are somewhat outdated especially the bathrooms plus the food is nothing special sad but it’s true. I wouldn’t pay to go half board as that is what we paid for but hardly have eaten here. When you get other guests saying the same thing that is proof it’s not to a good standard. Shame really as this is a perfect location for the Yumbo centre and night life. The pool is lovely needs a little TLC here and there. Entertainment is poor. Jet2 needs to change its rating. Best thing about this hotel is its reception staff they are so polite and friendly. We had the best check in ever. The cleaning staff make sure it’s clean and tidy.
Good but could be better
The customer service is first class for the most part, although one colleague at reception slighted me by telling me I hadn't listened when the pool towel policy had been made clear, which was an assumption and incorrect. The food is plentiful and varied but lacking in real quality, apart from the fresh salad, bread and the fruit selection. The steak and duck freshly prepared a la plancha was not quite right, the fat not rendered down, but you won't go hungry for lack of choice. Room was always clean and fresh towels bedding every day if needed. Bed very comfortable, air con and room safe all included. WiFi was great even in the room. Balcony chairs are reclining loungers also comfy. It's a very convenient location near the Yumbo centre and taxis and buses nearby to go anywhere.

Not for me but not terrible hope my review helps you decide
I usually go for small hotels but as this was my first solo trip I wanted to try a bigger chain hotel and I didn’t enjoy as much as I thought. The hotel itself is clean the room was exactly as pictured (superior double) however the curtains were dirty and furniture a little dated the balcony doors not very smooth so was disturbed on a few occasions from neighbouring rooms opening and closing doors. The actual room doors had to give it some elbow to close so expect to be woken up by that. The fridge kicks in now and again which hums and then it randomly pops/cracks?
Pool area and jacuzzi clean and well maintained plenty of sun beds the terrace is nice too - pic added for snack bar menu and prices.
Unfortunately I had to complain twice due to a couple below me having a blazing row kicking the doors and being extremely aggressive I was scared called at 1am assured would be sorted called again at 5 and was told to hold on a sec to which the phone was cut off I believe this was an accident however nobody called me back or came to see me to check I was ok. I took umbrage to this and whilst I appreciate the hotel can’t be responsible for individuals behaviour they do have a responsibility to ensure all guests feel safe and secure with that in mind I approached reception to ask if said guests had been ejected and was assured that everyone in that row had checked out they apologised and then said perhaps I got it wrong just too much to drink and banter?! Didn’t appreciate being gaslit and I actually have recordings to definitely not banter.
This is why I’ve usually opted for smaller as I know for a fact they would have come to find me and / or offered a drink voucher or some kind of token by way of an apology.
The entertainment was lacking just DJ most nights heard Britney Spears 5 times over 3 days …. there was a saxophonist during the day one day which was enjoyable.
The breakfast was fine usual fare I added pics there was a little variety but mostly much the same day in day out. I did like that on some days there was sardines and salmon and roasted courgette and peppers.

My only gripe with the food was the labelling wasn’t great on the yoghurt station simply said “yoghurt” didn’t tell you what type of yoghurt you could tell some was flavoured as I lead a sugar free life I do opt for strained Greek yoghurt and when I asked the staff replenishing they couldn’t understand me. The same for cheese and meat section just simply “cheese” and “meat” again some cheese is obvious the same as meat but a little more detail would be useful. I have added lots of pics from breakfast not pictured was the omelette station and small gluten free section. They also had several milk options / alternatives. Lots of tea options with mint cinnamon sticks sliced lemons which was a nice touch. The breakfast room very noisy the staff whip away empty plates and dump them in a plastic trolley so expect lots of clattering unless you go outside of course.
All in all whilst I wouldn’t go back to this hotel its location is great can walk straight down the road see the dunes and good transport links to other locations I recommend El Saloon for tapas just 5 mins up the road.
