This amazingly hotel is situated on a central location on the famous Playa del Inglés, in the southern part of Gran Canaria. The airport is conveniently just about 2 km car ride away from the complex. The hotel offers rooms that come equipped with cosy beds and all the necessary amenities they need to have the best experience. For travellers comfort, the rooms are decorated to make them feel welcomed and comfortable. Diving into the pool, sunbathing, relaxing under the shadow of an umbrella or going to the beach are just a few things guests will have the pleasure to experience. Visitors can have a delicious meal or spend a lovely evening in the bar. If visitors prefer to explore the surroundings, there are restaurants where to go to taste different flavours or have a nice meal.
This was our second stay at Abora Catarina, and unfortunately it was much worse than our first visit in 2023. It is difficult to understand how a hotel can decline so much in just three years.
The biggest problem was the air conditioning. In reality, there is almost no effective air conditioning in the hotel. Common areas, including the dining area, corridors and elevators, were not cooled at all. With +31°C outside, the temperature in the restaurant was around +28°C. I asked the staff several times to turn on the air conditioning, but nothing changed. Guests were sweating during meals, and the staff did not seem to care.
The rooms were not much better. I checked the temperature with my own thermometer and it was constantly +25–26°C, even with the air conditioning set to maximum. The room controller appears to be only decorative, as changing the temperature setting makes no difference. We changed rooms, but the problem remained. The cooling system seems to be centrally controlled and does not allow guests to adjust the temperature.
Another issue is the bar drinks. The spirits are still heavily diluted, the same problem I mentioned in my 2023 review. Even with an all-inclusive package, we had to buy our own drinks from nearby supermarkets because the quality of the alcoholic beverages was unacceptable.
The food quality has also declined. Breakfast is repetitive, which was already the case in 2023, but lunch and dinner choices have become worse. There is often only one meat option, while many other dishes are vegetarian or fish-based and remain untouched. Guests regularly had to wait 10–15 minutes for freshly prepared meat dishes because they disappeared immediately.
Overall, our second stay at Abora Catarina was a big disappointment. Compared to 2023, the hotel has clearly declined in comfort, food quality and overall standards.
We had a fantastic time at the hotel, and the entertainment team did an amazing job. The whole team was friendly, professional, and always made sure everyone was having fun.
A special thank you to Isaac from Ghana. He is an incredibly positive person, always smiling and full of energy. His enthusiasm is contagious, and he brings great vibes to every activity. He is kind, approachable, and truly makes guests feel welcome. Isaac is a wonderful entertainer and an even better person.
Thank you to the entire entertainment team for making our holiday so enjoyable. You all did an excellent job!
The Food was Alright. Rooms are clean. Location is fine but if you wanna walk to the beach it’s quite long walk. But the best thing for me were animators, especially Isaac. Dude literally smiles whole day making everyone smile too. Works hard trying to entertain not only kids but adults also. Animators are doing great job at the scene also. These guys are giving good atmosphere.
kind personel ,good people i rate this vacation 20/10
We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend this hotel. The superior rooms were spacious, spotlessly clean, and beautifully presented. The family room was a good size, although as we needed a cot there wasn't a tent for the children. The food was plentiful throughout our stay. We actually preferred the lunch menu to the evening menu, although both offered a good variety and were very enjoyable. The snack bar was exceptional, especially if you're travelling with teenagers! There was a constant supply of freshly cooked burgers, hot dogs, chips, ice cream, jelly, fruit, cakes 11am to 11pm and sandwiches/cakes available throughout late evening evening/ overnight. The entertainment was good overall. The two evening shows we saw during our week's stay were excellent. Unfortunately, we were a little unlucky as the entertainment team had Monday off, one evening was dedicated to the World Cup (which created an amazing atmosphere!), another was karaoke, and later in the week one of the shows was repeated. This was a little disappointing, particularly as our grandchildren really enjoyed the shows. The water slide area was brilliant for both children and adults. The only advice I'd give is to wait until the person before you has cleared the slide, as we saw a few near misses. Drinks were plentiful and easily accessible, with self-service soft drinks, beer, sangria and wine on tap. The only slight inconvenience was that guests could only collect two drinks at a time from the main pool bar, so if you're a group of four it's easier for two people to go to the bar together, although if you have little ones you will need to go up twice. We didn't enjoy the couple of cocktails we tried, unfortunately, as they were premixed and too strong in taste and much preferred the sangria, which was great! The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.
