A Fantastic Stay at the RIU Gran Canaria – With a Couple of Disappointments
Overall, we had a great stay at the RIU Gran Canaria and thoroughly enjoyed our time at the hotel. The facilities, atmosphere and overall experience made for a really enjoyable holiday, and there is plenty to praise about the resort. However, there were two issues that I feel are worth highlighting, as they slightly took the shine off what was otherwise a very positive experience.
The first was the handling of a friend who wanted to visit me briefly for a coffee. I was disappointed to be refused permission for a friend to visit, even for something as simple as a coffee. What made the situation particularly frustrating was the attitude of the security guard at the entrance, who was unnecessarily rude, followed by a reception team who were unhelpful and showed little willingness to find a reasonable solution. The impression I was left with was that I was asking for something completely unreasonable, rather than a simple, short visit from a friend. I fully appreciate that hotels need policies and security procedures, but the way a policy is communicated and the way guests are treated makes all the difference. A little courtesy, flexibility and customer service would have gone a long way.
The second issue was an ant problem in the bathroom. While I appreciate that this can sometimes happen in warmer climates, it was disappointing to encounter this in a hotel of this standard and something that should be addressed by the housekeeping and maintenance teams.
Despite these two issues, I want to stress that we had a genuinely great stay overall. The hotel has a lot going for it, and I would not want these points to overshadow the many positives of the experience.
With a little more attention to customer service at the entrance and reception, alongside better pest control, the RIU Gran Canaria could deliver an even better experience.
Overall, a very enjoyable stay, but a reminder that excellent facilities need to be matched by excellent customer service.

Typical Riu
A typical riu resort. Clean, good food, good facilities. Good location. Nothing to complain about.
3rd time here - still excellent!
3rd time back at this hotel, I don’t often repeat visit but this place rules all. Carmen was on reception and greeted us warmly and we got room 119. Garden view room which was lovely, well appointed and cleaned everyday but the wonderful room attendants that work there.
This hotel has everything, from activities, areas for the kids, adults only areas, access out the back to the promenade (just be back in before 10pm otherwise you’ll need to go round the front)!
You can do as much or as little as you like, the food was excellent, really enjoyed the Chinese Buffett and the White Party was truly amazing all with all the shows.
Riu gave really put money into this place and to see it develop and grow with the sports bar, staging, upkeep all number one priorities I can see why people like myself go back again and again!
Bravo - we had a great week celebrating our birthdays! Thanks for the free bottles of cava on our birthdays too, nice touch indeed.

Riu gran canaria hotel a little gem
Absolutely fantastic place .went on my own for 6 nights .loved the food the area the local beaches .the promenade you could walk along via the back gate. Didn't have a conversation with any apart from saying " thank you " and " good morning " and ordering my coffee. I loved it . Lovely spacious clean room . I definitely want to go back . It was sad to see that the adult area was covered in towels very early in the morning but that was fine for me as I just went to the large sun deck above the bar there where it wasnt ever very busy lots of space with only a few beds overlooking the sea . Beautiful area to relax and enjoy the sun

4th Visit
This was our 4th visit to this beautiful hotel and can’t wait to return. I found all the staff very helpful, friendly and efficient especially Amanda at the Sunset bar who even knew our orders every morning and greeted us with such a welcoming smile, making us feel very valued. Thank you! Our room had lovely views, and our request for same room as last year was honoured and very much appreciated! The housekeeping staff were top notch and room was kept spotlessly clean with fresh linen and towels provided. I do apologise as no tip was left for all the hard work, as on the last morning our safe jammed and left us panicked and rushing about and totally slipped our minds. On our return this won’t be forgotten. Can I just add after calling reception at 6.15 in the morning regarding the safe problem we were told someone would come up to the room just after 7.10 to sort for us as the guy didn’t start his work until then. Once again, as always we were met with efficiency and in fact the guy was in our room before 7 and sorted our problem without any need to panic over missing our bus pick up. We enjoyed once again trying out the different restaurants booked on our App but our favourite was the Atlantico for lunch with amazing views. Finally a big thank you to Tino for all your help again with our booking and our requests. Lovely to catch up with you again…. Until next time!
