Occidental Jandia Royal Level Adults Only

If you are thinking of having a digital detox, then choose this hotel! There is no WiFi in the rooms and very weak or non-existent signal elsewhere. If the management have no intention of improving this or it is impossible to improve, then explicitly state this in advertising or during the booking process. My room was basic, traditional and mostly well kept. As I chose Royal level, there was a mini-bar. There was a kettle with sachets of tea & coffee. The standard two beds with a mattress topper covering it to make one big king-size bed took getting used to. There were blackout blinds but they didn't do much blacking out. In the bathroom the shower worked well. The toilet is right next to a window that won't close and as standard, the vanity mirror was broken. I did appreciate the generous size. It very noisy, I didn't ask to move because most of the noise was caused by metal cleaner trolley wheels on small ceramic tiled flooring. To me it seemed a smoking hotel, with only the reception area and restaurants observed as non-smoking. People smoked around the pool and in common areas and even in the outside spa area. The royal level area was separated by glass doors, it was quiet and recently decorated. The pool and buffet area were well maintained, but staff did not adhere to the "no reserving sunbeds" rule, so I couldn't get a bed. 😞 And everyone ignored the no smoking signs. The buffet was okay, as always they can get repetitive and it lacked atmosphere. The spa had broken equipment and is need of an update, but it was generally quiet and pleasant. The treatment pricing doesn't match the standard or quality of the spa- it is far too overpriced. The hotel generally needs aesthetic improvement, it looks as tired as I feel. However the abundance of shrubs, plants and trees were beautiful and I didn't mind the long walk up back from the beach for that reason. Hiring a car beforehand is strongly recommended if you aren't a sunbed holiday person (or you couldn't get one anyway, like me). There is an onsite rental station thingy but it was way too expensive, so I walked to Morro Jable most days which seemed unspoilt (ish) by tourism. There were bayside restaurants, a small church, people snorkeling in the coves and less windy for some reason. It was lovely. All the staff were wonderful and (mostly) full of smiles. I wouldn't go back, because it wasn't the right hotel for me but I can see its bog standard charm.

Spent two weeks here in the Royal Levels with some friends. If you wanted to pick faults you could say the rooms are slightly dated looking but for me it was more a traditional Spanish style. Rooms were large and we had a fully stocked fridge. Maids come in twice a day to make sure the room was clean and fridge was full. Excellent service here. Room also had a safe at no extra charge. TV had 4 UK channels. We mostly ate at Atlantico, food here was top notch with plenty of selections. Buffet style with 2 choices of meat or fish cooked on a hot plate. Plenty of other hot selections, salad, fruit, breads, soups and sweets. I would say this restaurant was one of the main reasons we had such a good time. Food was fresh, varied and flavoursome with a extremely large option of choices. Sunbeds in this area were very comfortable. Some days there were not enough beds so we also used the Pajara bar area during the day as well. We did see a couple of kids here but it was mostly adults and was also quite chilled atmosphere. If you venture from the Royal Levels you can wind through the paths down to the spa are at the bottom of the complex. It is slightly steep and it is a good 10 minutes to walk over to the beach. The beach is beautiful and worth a visit. We used the cocktail bar at night. Very nice drinks and was the last bar open at night. Strangely the bar got quiet after 11 but staff would give you a late drink which you could take elsewhere ie sit outside or take to room. Cocktails very good with nice selection of branded drinks. We also ate in the Canario A la carte area. Really good experience, just make sure you know which theme is on, they do Mexican, Italian, Canaries, Asian and a chefs special should you not like the limited menu choice. Had really good food every time we used it. Some other info, 2 hour bus transfer on air conditioned coach, you can use the sister hotel up the hill, Morro Jable is about a 20 minute walk or a five minute taxi. the hotel is on a hill. There is a few shops and a supermarket below the hotel. Hotel is super clean, staff are so friendly and helpful. Food was great. Branded drinks. I can't fault this holiday.
