- Playitas Aparthotel

This aparthotel is part of one of the world's leading active resorts offering over 30 different sports and fitness activities for those who want to get fit, stay fit or train for an upcoming event. The property is set right on the beach in a picturesque bay next to the sleepy fishing village of Las Playitas and offers state-of-the-art facilities including a heated Olympic pool, a bike centre with the latest road and mountain bikes and 5 tennis courts. Thanks to its facilities and services, this hotel is suitable for cycling breaks and welcomes cyclists from all over the world. It is also provided with a buffet restaurant, two a la carte restaurants and four bars, as well as a supermarket. The air-conditioned and fully appointed studios and apartments come with garden or sea views and a well equipped kitchen in case guests want to prepare their own food.
The spirts facilities here are out of this world, and the Olympic pool is absolutely stunning. We stayed in a studio apartment, which was well-maintained and comfortable.
The food is excellent with plenty of variety and healthy options. However, the resort is remote with only one highly-priced supermarket on-site, so we ended up up-grading to full-board.
For all the fabulous facilities, the resort lacks atmosphere. It was like going on holiday to a really big leisure centre! There’s not much interaction between guests; it’s very different to a Neilson or Mark Warner holiday. I think the resort could help with this a bit by having a notice board where folks could look for training partners. I felt runners were not really catered for (other than by a couple of races) and it would have been nice to find other people to run with.
It’s a cracking place to go with a group, but I don’t think I’d go again with a friend or solo.
We requested an early check-in and arrived at around 11 am. Our little daughter was very tired and needed a nap, therefore I asked about my request to check us in earlier. The lady at the reception pointed out to some regulations on the wall and replied that our room should be ready between 3 and 4. It was indicated on booking that the check-in is from 3 pm. NO way! Our room was ready at 3:30. The personnel at the reception is one of the worst I experienced to communicate in the last years (especially some ladies). I am not sure if receptionists are informed about all rules in the sport area. They just sent you to check everything yourself, if you need anything from them. The answers I got were not correct. They do not even know how the sport section works. If you ask to call management, they call another person from the reception, who has as little knowledge and responsibilities as the first person you talked to. At least both male receptionists are friendly and helpful. The food is sometimes awful! The chef does not have any understanding how “healthy” food should be. First of all, some supposed to be hot dishes are cold. Half of the time the food is good and half of the time you have a feeling the chef, who can cook just takes days off. If the hotel positions itself as sport hotel #1 in Europe, the food must be changed completely. All wines could have been offered by glass. There are enough people to drink expensive wine, it would not be spoiled. Some hotel areas could have been cleaned more often. I am not sure, if yoga mats are ever cleaned. At least they can call a taxi for you and change 10€ banknote to coins for laundry. Breakfast is from 7:30 to 10:30. Pretty long. But if you come at 10:15-10:20, one of 6 coffee machines might be working, the rest are already under cleaning and staff is collecting food for themselves. There might be no glasses for water. They can just take the rest of pancakes in front of you. If you take pictures, they say that you do not have authorization. If you wish your pool towel to be changed, you have to pay 2€ and it does not matter, if you stay 1 night or 2 weeks. The receptionist explained that their management takes care of environment that way. It is simply a lie. Room towels can be changed every day and there is no even request in the room that the guest can keep the towels, if they are not on the floor. Instead of “Do not disturb” sign, there is a sign “Do not clean my room”. I assume, there is a reason behind, why they created such a sign. Once our room was not cleaned for 3 days, even though we put a sign on the door to clean our room before 13:00. When I informed cleaning ladies that we have a small daughter, who needs a nap, the room was most of the time cleaned. We had a tea kettle, which made terrible noise and dies after one week. The curtains in the room are like retro decorations, most probably never changed or cleaned in the last 10 years. The water in the main pool is cold. The coach, who gave lessons to our daughter said that it is cold even for her. There are enough people to do some investments and renovations from time to time... Sport section is great! Most of the trainers and coaches are very motivated (Stephane, Kitty, Leo, guest instructors Lars, Peter B.)
As always an amazing holiday. This time I brought my 5 year old son, and he had a fantastic time aswell. Staff is wonderful, making sure everything was in order. Varied training giving both of us the opportunity to try out new things every day. Great with constant new development each year! Can’t wait to come back again and again and again ;)
Resort was super in our opinion. We went for full board and in the hotel with a family of 3. Hotel room was a good size and the beds were comfortable. Pillows I found uncomfortable but my partner and daughter found them fine.
Food was good but could be better. We found that the food was good in both the buffet restaurants, yes it could have been better and some more attention to detail with making sure everything is being stirred every once in a while but the chefs were all ready very busy so may need an extra member on the team at service. There was decent rotation of main proteins available from day to day.
Drinks were good also and cocktails were very tasty in the hotel bar, the local beer being served on tap is Tropical which is served in a cold glass which was a nice touch.
Pools are heated and are very nice to spend time in. The pool at the hotel side has a stunning view of the sea.
We would have appreciated some water fountains around the resort as too much plastic bottles being used. The water stations in the restaurants say not to refill water bottles from them.
So much to choose from activity wise. We played Padel, volleyball, and took a few classes during the 4 days. All the instructors were very helpful and explained everything really well. Book your activities as soon as they become available. Activities become available 24 hours before hand. The classes are an extra for example an instructor led class could be €5 or €6 which was fine. A beginners class for Padel was €18. Some of the large Zumba or Abs,Legs & Glutes classes were free of charge. So there is options if you didn’t want to spend anything extra. The smaller paid classes are very much worth it though.
We would return for sure but wouldn’t go full board and would try the apartments the next time around. The villas are a good stroll away which makes them nice and quiet.
Over all. We will happily recommend this resort and would be very happy to return in the future.
Did not know about this golf course until my son in law came across it accidentally. Bit out of the way but well worth it.
How can I describe it? Something like some of the wonderful village courses you get back in Scotland ( Braemar, Bridge of Allan, Newtonmore and many more) all be it minus the trees.
Been playing golf for many a year now, and it probably has the hardest par 5 I have ever played. Normally par fives can be forgiven but this one hole 10 was not, apart from the climb up mount Everest to the tee, fairway undulating, the green at one blind and when you arrived on the green it was undulating, like most of the greens were, and into the wind. How i got away with a 7 i will never know. The to top it of you were met by another par 5 but more forgiving.
Water hazards in good condition generally over all course in good nick.
Staff pleasant and helpfu.l Not to expensive as it was summer rates.
Would have liked to seen a bar at the club house offering light snacks and of course a cool one. There were tins but not the same.
