- Fuerteventura Holidays
- Costa Calma
- Club Hotel Drago Park

This modern hotel complex is situated in Costa Calma in the south of Fuerteventura. It is an ideal place for unforgettable family holidays as it features a pool, children's pool, playground, kid's club, entertainment for adults and children, restaurant, several bars as well as various sports facilities. The beautiful sandy beach can be reached within a short stroll, there is a shuttle bus to the beach.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Location very , good , atmosphere lovely , room good , but bed are not comfortable, sunbeds is very old , overall goid for the money
We booked this hotel quite last minute after seeing that it included free park tickets. I’d read quite a few negative reviews beforehand, but I tried not to let them influence my opinion and went with an open mind.
After staying here, I can honestly say that some of the things mentioned in the negative reviews were things we experienced too, but overall we still had a lovely holiday and made the best of it.
I think this is one of those hotels that will suit some people much more than others, and you definitely can’t please everyone.
Who I think this hotel would suit
If you’re hiring a car and want somewhere to use as a base, I think this is a really good option. You can go out exploring during the day and come back for a swim, some food, a drink and bed.
Equally, if you’re happy staying around the hotel, relaxing by the pool and having a quiet break, it works well for that too. It’s relatively quiet at night, which we really liked.
If you’re a fan of San Miguel, this is also available on tap as part of the all-inclusive, which I know will be a bonus for some people!
I could definitely see myself returning, particularly without the children or with a car, as I think it makes a good base for exploring Fuerteventura.
⸻
Location & accessibility
The biggest thing I’d say is to be prepared for the location. The hotel is basically at the top of a very large hill, and there are lots of stairs and different levels around the resort.
For us, this was particularly difficult as my husband had a broken foot and we were travelling with two young children with reduced mobility. Although our room was on the ground floor, getting around the resort still involved quite a lot of stairs and wasn’t particularly accessible.
I think the hotel could definitely make some improvements when it comes to accessibility.
The beach and local shopping centre are around a 30-minute walk away, although you can order taxis from the main reception. A taxi is roughly €7–€7.50 each way and takes about five minutes, so it’s not particularly expensive, but it can add up if you’re using them regularly.
We did have a few occasions where taxis arrived, picked up other guests and we were left waiting, which was frustrating when you have children and someone with a broken foot.
There are some restaurants nearby, including Italian, Chinese and steak restaurants, so you’re not completely stuck for options.
The airport transfer was around 1 hour 45 minutes, so definitely something to bear in mind when booking.
⸻
The room
The room was fairly decent — you get what you pay for.
There were three normal plug sockets plus USB charging ports, which was really handy. There was also a kettle with tea, coffee and sugar, and the safe was free to use.
The bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, hand wash and body wash, and we were given three complimentary bottles of water when we arrived.
There isn’t a fridge in the room, which wasn’t a huge issue for us but is worth knowing.
The air conditioning isn’t particularly powerful, but it does make a difference. You have to make sure the balcony/room door is properly closed and on the latch for it to work. We could actually hear it switch off when the door wasn’t properly closed.
We were there during very hot weather, so leaving it running while we were out or overnight definitely helped keep the room cooler.
⸻
Cleanliness & housekeeping
This was probably one of our biggest disappointments.
The hotel itself generally looked clean and there was clearly a lot of maintenance being done around the pool areas, but our room didn’t feel like it was being properly cleaned during our stay.
Housekeeping seemed to mainly empty the bins and replace toilet roll rather than sweep or mop.
We also had an accident with our youngest during the stay, and the soiled sheets were left on the floor and weren’t removed by housekeeping.
We did have quite a few ants in the sofa bed as well, which meant the children ended up sharing with us rather than sleeping there.
I appreciate that ants can happen in a hot country, but we’ve stayed in Fuerteventura and other Canary Islands before and never experienced them in our room, so it’s something I think families with younger children should be aware of.
There were also some cockroaches around the resort, although most of the ones we saw were already dead, so it wasn’t something that particularly bothered us.
⸻ Food
The food was probably our biggest overall disappointment, although this is very much down to personal preference.
It was quite repetitive, and with two picky children it was difficult. They mainly stuck to things like rice, pasta and spaghetti.
I spoke to another guest who was vegetarian that said she wasn’t given much choice for food as she was told there was salad and cheese and it wasn’t something they catered for so I’d also be wary of this if travelling here as a vegan/vegetarian.
I personally am quite open to trying different foods, but obviously this isn’t England and you are going to get things here that you wouldn’t necessarily see or eat at home.
I don’t agree with the reviews saying the food was cold. We didn’t find it cold. The bigger issue was that if you didn’t go at the right time, some of the food could become quite dry from sitting out.
I’d recommend going either when the restaurant first opens or towards the end of service.
The lunchtime snack bar was actually one of our favourite options.
We did see a couple of flies in the main restaurant while we were there, but nothing like some of the reviews I’d read about flies all over the fruit and salad.
One thing worth knowing if you’re travelling with children is that ice creams aren’t included in the all-inclusive and cost around €4–€4.50.
⸻
Entertainment
The animation team were absolutely amazing and genuinely one of the highlights of our holiday. They are an absolute credit to the hotel.
There was loads going on in the kids’ club — football, games, colouring, darts, shuffleboard, ping pong and various activities.
The guy with the curly hair who did the kids’ club was fantastic and genuinely looked like he loved his job.
I also have to mention the girl with the black curly hair and knee brace. She had SO much energy and was constantly getting involved and keeping the children entertained.
Honestly, her and the curly-haired guy were such an amazing power team. You could really see how much effort they both put into making sure the kids were having fun.
The evening entertainment could become a little repetitive, though, and I think the hotel could benefit from having something a bit different in the evenings. The music was also maybe too loud… something to consider as there were quite a ten SEN children. We did have a pool party on our final night, which was nice to see. The only thing I would say is that it started on the later side, at around 8pm, which I think is quite late for younger children.
We’ve stayed at other hotels where pool parties have been held during the daytime, which I personally think works better for families with younger children.
So it’s great that they do them — I just think an earlier time would make them more accessible for families with little ones.
⸻
The pool
We actually really liked the pool, particularly because none of us are particularly strong swimmers.
The pool is shallower at either side and gradually gets deeper towards the middle. I’m around 5ft 2 and could comfortably stand in the deeper section, so it’s not a particularly deep pool.
The children’s pool was lovely too and has a canopy over it, which the children really enjoyed.
The pool areas were generally clean and well maintained. We regularly saw one of the older lifeguards cleaning, sweeping water away from the pool and emptying bins/bags.
The younger lifeguard seemed a little less proactive, but overall the pool area was well looked after.
⸻ Sunbeds
This was probably one of the more frustrating things.
There are signs saying that sunbeds cannot be reserved, but in reality people were getting up around 5am and putting towels out at around 5:15–6am.
We eventually thought, if you can’t beat them, join them.
We also asked the gentleman at the pool snack bar about the cabanas, and he told us that normal sunbeds could actually be reserved by putting towels on them between 8am and 9am, which completely contradicts the signage.
The cabanas can apparently be hired from around 10am, with different options available.
This, along with a few other things, gave us the impression that the hotel may be going through a bit of a transition/change in management. We originally booked before it became Pierre & Vacances, and there seemed to be a few contradictions between the old and new rules/information.
⸻
Staff
The staff were generally lovely.
The older gentleman on reception with glasses was absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough for us.
The waiters and restaurant staff were friendly too. At our first lunch there seemed to be quite a shortage of staff and tables weren’t being cleared particularly quickly, but breakfast and dinner seemed much better staffed and tables were constantly being cleared.
The gentleman at the pool snack bar was really helpful, and the lady in the hotel shop/boutique was also lovely.
But honestly, the animation team deserve a special mention — they were fantastic.
⸻
Wi-Fi & TV
The Wi-Fi was generally decent, although it could be a little patchy at times.
The TV has very limited English-language programmes. Personally, I don’t go on holiday to sit and watch TV, so it wasn’t a major issue for us, but I can see it being useful to have a few more English channels for children winding down at night or on a cloudy day.
⸻
Little things worth mentioning
The hotel has a cup recycling system, with special cup-shaped bins around the resort. I actually thought this was a really good idea, although we did see people putting cigarettes and general rubbish into them, so perhaps they could be monitored a little more. Final thoughts
Overall, we did enjoy our holiday.
There are definitely things that could be improved — particularly accessibility, housekeeping, food variety and the confusion around the sunbed rules — but I don’t think it’s fair to say the hotel is awful because of those things.
For us, a week was probably long enough, but we still had a good time and made the most of it.
I could see myself coming back here, particularly without the children or with a car, because I think it would make a really good base for exploring Fuerteventura.
If you’re someone who mainly wants to relax by the pool, have a swim, eat, drink and sleep, it could also work really well.
It’s not perfect, but you can’t please everyone, and I think if you know what you’re booking and go in with realistic expectations, you can absolutely have a good holiday here.
Me my partner and our 16yr old daughter went here for 10 nights , never been to fuerteventura before , but we absolutely loved it , had a fab time at hotel drago , rooms where spacious and cleaned every day , food was lovely, great choice, entertainment every night , the entertainment team where brilliant, staff where helpful ,cant say anything bad about it , defo will return 😀
I went here for a family holiday, 2 adults and 6 kids. The staff were lovely, the pool was really nice, always clean and the kids and us adults all enjoyed it, the rooms were spacious and cleaned daily. The pool party was great, the atmosphere was buzzing and everyone enjoyed. They were the good parts. The bad parts - the food was incredibly repetitive and boring, neither the adults or kids enjoyed the food at all. The evening entertainment was non existent apart from the pool party, the rooms aircon was non existent, although the rooms were cleaned everyday I don’t believe our beds were changed at all, all week. The location of the hotel is quite remote unless you’re driving, there’s a mini market 1minute walk and that’s about it. Overall I’m not sure it was worth the money we paid, not great value for money.
Don’t listen to what everyone says! This is a honest and bang on review
Rooms: spacious! Cleaners do a good job too!
Pool: lovely big pool, everywhere clean! Toilets a little out of the way (none in the bar bit) but not bad. Drinks and food inside. Only criticism is the sun loungers (we seen towels out at 4am)
Food and drink! Choice was limited for food! And it can be cold. Although there was always something I could eat a bit of choice would be great.
Entertainment staff: fantastic! They really are the highlight of the place! The pool party was a personal favourite (wish they did this twice in a week not once)
Things that could be better Food: is often cold and a limited range of options Entertainment: pool party twice Pool bar: be nice if it was open later (stops at 6pm) Information: when we got there the directions to the room etc wasn’t fantastic! Maybe do a print out map of the rooms, elevator etc
I would certainly come back! (Family of 3 with a young child)
