old but good
we knew the hotel is old but we really enjoyed our stay. All areas very clean, room comfortable , great view from balcony . Amazing location on the beach. Food was excellent for a 3star hotel, plenty of choice . Go with an open mind , you will be happy but it’s dated!

Cheap and cheerful
Now before I go on, I want to say we’ve stayed here twice before and know about the current situation with the Spanish Government and the long awaited refurbishment so we knew what we were coming to.
Love it or hate it, it’s a 3* at best but as we only paid £550/person for a week it’s difficult to complain.
The hotel is right on the sand dunes and and for us, that’s the draw.
Yes the rooms are very dated but the bed was clean and comfortable.
We love the place but 3 things stood out for me this time which I didn’t like.
- The smell from the drains is horrendous
- Bird flying around the dining hall as it couldn’t get out but was messing on tables and chairs. There was also a cockroach on the plates at breakfast. All very unhygienic.
- The check out. For me, the check in experience is as important as the check out process. We weren’t allowed a late check out, it was just a ‘no’ we’re full but we were given a key to a shower room and told the two of us had 10 minutes use of it. When we asked if towels were provided we were told to use our beach towels. We’d used them on the beach all morning but couldn’t exchange them for clean ones as that closed at 12 noon so we had no option but to shower and then get dried with wet sandy towels.
I guess for me, you pay for what you get and if you go with your eyes open you’ll be fine, it is certainly very popular but next time, we’ll probably try somewhere new.

Hotel is okay but needs some serious Maintenance
Was okay but like most reviews the place is in need of a serious renovation. Our room in the apartments had holes and cracks in the walls and floors and the safe didn’t lock properly due to it needing to be fixed. The pool needs some TLC due the square tiles coming off everywhere and was finding them scattered at the bottom of the pool. Apart from that the staff was very welcoming but I’ll give it up to one worker who goes above and beyond he works in the main dining area he’s short with black hair and always makes effort to great everyone and put a smile on everyone’s face. He definitely put a smile on both mine and my girlfriend face everytime we saw him. Just a shame we couldn’t get his name as he definitely deserves a pay rise or something.
22 RIU – everyone knows it’s great.
The RIU hotel chain naturally offers a top-notch holiday experience. Despite the hotel's issues with local authorities, the stay was a success!

TLDR review pros - Great location, Excellent service from the staff, very clean good food, good value for money Cons - Air con in room didn't work, difficult to park due to lack of spaces, food choice not the best, no entertainment in annex Remember that it is only a 3 star, definitely did the job overall but wasn't blown away other than the impeccable service by every single staff member
full review Stayed here mid september, the hotel was fairly busy this time of year with guests from all over europe. the room we had was upstairs in the annex part of the hotel away from the main building, this was a bonus as its out of the way and very quiet. however it is up a flight of stairs and then once in the room, the bedroom, bathroom is up another narrow spiral staircase which is not ideal when trying to haul 3 big heavy bags up there but definitely unique and have a large downstairs area with dining table and 2 sofas, yes dated but was clean and did the job so can't fault that.
food and drink was good, Breakfast and lunch was the same every day with a variety in the evening drinks were plentiful and tasty
The entertainment team were very good! sadly can only go by the evening as although there was quite a few of them, entertainment was only in the main building both day and night so pool activities only in the main building. however the shows in the evening were very good! especially jukebox.
There is a discoteque downstairs after the show but is only open friday/saturday night which is annoying as we arrived saturday night so could only enjoy it on the last day, it could have been done with being air conditioned too. In the week there is no more entertainment after the showtime which finishes around 10:15pm meaning you might as well head to bed early which is disappointing considering the different bars there's so much more opportunity for later entertainment.
We hired a car for the week whilst there and everyday found it incredibly difficult to get a space as the place was packed full of cars for people visiting the beach. it would have been nice to have parking reserved for hotel guests.
overall this is not a bad hotel at all! does look a little tired but the staff are working hard and make it such an amazing place, shame about some of the cons such as lack of air conditioning/fans and such so there is room for improvement with facilities and such but definitely worth it. I've stayed in worse 3 star hotels so would recommend this hotel for a clean but no frills hotel in the best location
