This town was once a delightful fishing village which has now become a popular tourist hot spot due to diverse culture, sandy beaches and endless opportunities for activities such as kite surfing and water-sports.

Alua Suites - much room for improvement
Overall we had a good holiday in Fuerteventura although the Alua Suites complex has much room for improvement. The location is great and the nearby centre of Corralejo and the sand dunes beach are lovely to visit. The hotel however, could be much better. The reception staff were quite abrupt and did not seem to care about our complaints. Our AC unit didn’t work, we reported it twice with no mention of a room change or a fan. It was fixed near the end of our stay. Room towels were never changed so we had to go to reception to get a replacement after 5 days. Pool towels can only be changed once. The buffet restaurant was ok until we witnessed the chef take some tongs out of a box of raw chicken and use them to serve up the cooked chicken, they literally had bits of raw chicken stuck between the gaps in the tongs which put us off the fresh meat section for the rest of our stay. The good points were the pool entertainment which was great and the available drinks, the bar staff were nice.
Honest Review
We spent 11 nights. Positives Rooms are spacious. Entertainment team are great. Cleaning team apart from one of the pool men in the morning are lovely.
Negatives Air con is a huge problem throughout the whole complex. New units are arriving daily but it seems to be they will fix when they finally break instead of sorting the issue before you arrive. Rooms need to be decorated instead of quick touch ups. You need to have a token or empty cup on you at all times if you want a drink. It’s like being back at school. Have never stayed anywhere where this is a policy! Towels - you can only change your towel once throughout your stay unless you pay which I disgraceful from a hygiene point of view. You have to be down at the sunbeds by 7am to get a spot and even if you manage to get one they are so old that many of them need replacing. The food is ok. We ate out a few times as not up to standard.
This hotel has so much potential but really needs money put into it and procedures need to be changed so families can actually relax. I wouldn’t say this is a 4* but could be if management took reviews seriously.

A lovely relaxing family stay
For a first all inclusive experience for my children, this was perfect in regards to the number of swimming pools available. The food was slightly repetitive which my husband and I found disappointing and personally there wasn't enough access to water stations or water in the room. The noise above our room every night was also terrible, so I wouldn't recommend staying on the ground floor if you are a light sleeper. It wasn't easy to get a sunbed unless you were up extremely early but travelling with kids, I hardly used one anyway.
Alua part 2….what happened on our return?
See our review from last year for this hotel, we’d had such a good time that we decided to come back. Here is how we found it travelling with a family of 4 (2 teens) staying for 2 weeks AI, one room. First the positives: Staff really great, seemed friendlier than last time and no one seemed grumpy at all - special thanks to Akim (sorry if we spelt it wrong) for a brilliant Spanish lesson. Also, the gentleman who does the bingo is so good, the kids loved the nights bingo was on.
A wide variety of activities to do during the day is great.
Food is a reasonable choice, and my coeliac son managed to find enough to eat all clearly labelled. Times for food were long and you can get snacks during the day at Fresco cafe too, there is 1 large canteen style restaurant, 1 smaller laid back place to eat that serves burgers / pasta / pizza etc, can highly recommend the tasty pizzas. We were also extremely impressed by being able to order a gluten free pizza for our son, it was lovely (24 hours notice required but that was no problem, it was included in the AI deal). The chips are GF if anyone needs to know. We are not big drinkers, but found the pre mix cocktails fun and tasty, and beer and spirits fine. They do not readily advertise the alcohol free cocktail “San Francisco” so do ask.
Cleanliness around the resort is fine. Pools just lovely and a good choice of pool for everyone (sporty disco pool, kids ones, a colder salt water one, a quiet one, one by a bar).
The room is large and quiet at night despite being near the entertainment, and bed comfortable (harder side but we liked that). We appreciated the complimentary bottles of water and fizzy rosé on arrival.

Bits that we felt could improve:
DO NOT risk the eating the chicken at this hotel!!!! It was the same last year, and so it was again, it’s often raw in the middle….a risk indeed. Steer clear. It turned my husband’s stomach as he cut in and it was completely pink in the middle/ raw.
Very little provision for a coeliac to enjoy a nice pudding after a meal, only ice cream, jelly, fruit and cheap sweets, so our son was very disappointed as he had to watch everyone enjoying the nice cakes. No GF cereal at breakfast was also disappointing, we have been spoilt in the UK - we did bring our own so not an issue as such, would just be nice to see.
Room dirty on arrival, under the bed was awful, long black hairs in clumps all over the place, water pouring out of air con unit and into a huge puddle on the floor all felt unwelcoming. We asked for a cleaner asap, she came but spoke no English and didn’t remove the hair all over the floor even on re clean.
Air con not working on arrival as per many other reviews, but the engineer came within an hour and luckily fixed it and it stayed ok for the whole holiday happily.
Entertainment good, but we’d have preferred more variety as this year it was all singers or acobats, not the magicians or flamenco of last year which felt like a shame. We’d have loved bingo every night, but did appreciate what we got.
Daily room service unpredictable, some times it was good, other times not sufficient depending who you got. Toilet never cleaned with bleach at all, during the entire stay, beds made daily but only refreshed once despite being visibly dirty one day with blood off a cut my son had, shower tray yellow, white headboard stained, lamps stained and filthy, towels very rough, lots of rust in bathroom, glasses dirty on arrival and never changed, was all disappointing, cockroaches under control well though.
We tried to take the glasses in our room down to refresh as we couldn’t drink out of them, but the lady caught us and asked us to take them back!! So we bought some clean mugs at the shop to keep as our own. Hmmm.
The room had a divider between us and the kids which was a good idea for changing in privacy, but was very old and rickety so no grown up private time!!! Shame!
Sun lounger situation grim! Scraping loungers wake you at 6:30am and all beds gone by 7:30, hotel do NOTHING to prevent this and many loungers have no one on them all day despite towels being laid out - so sad.
So, we had a good time overall, but it’s time to move onto another island 😁

Dated decor and broken air con
Got to our room on Saturday 8/8/26 , air con leaking , reported it and was told it would be done on the Sunday It wasn’t looked at until the Monday , after repeatly going to reception to try get it sorted , it wasn’t fixed until the Tuesday , they left us with no air con until the Tuesday night , asked for fan , was not offered them When we got jet 2 involved , they moved us to an upgraded suite , to little to late as far as I was concerned Everything else about the stay was great , would definitely go back Food was really good and the all the all inclusive package was really good Shame about the customer relations over the broken air con
