I am very unclear what the raving reviews are.
I have never experienced a hotel like it.
Food is questionable. Who cooks a chicken curry with whole bits of chicken with the bones still attached and then add a very questionable sauce in top.
It's the same foods day in and day out. - Kids are only fed pasta and chips
Cleanses is terrible. Side note. The lifeguard gets in the pool to clean it with some sort of spray that he uses gives to do so. This is while the pool is still open and people swimming
Bugs everywhere -rooms-pool-bar Make sure you stick up on mosquito products.
The Showers are full of mould - toilet seats are broken
You have to request your sheets to be changed. Even if you have the "please make my room up" they only sweep and mop the floor ( and that's at a push) and change your towels
No air-conditioning- you are provided a floor fan that is filthy and black (I kid you not)
The rooms are dusty
If you are going as a family, you will need to take it in turns to eat lunch or breakfast as, as soon as you leave your sunbed, your towels are confiscated (I kid you not)
You are not allowed flatables. In the pool.
Evening entertainment (if thats what you want to call it) is shocking.
It's very quite place.
I would not say this is value for money (its an absolute rip-off)
I will never recommend this hotel!
Other than the hotel... its a very beautiful place and the beach is amazing.
Very poor hotel needs a total upgrade the staff are friendly the food’s ok wouldn’t pay for a three star hotel it’s more like a one star hotel very out of date nothing like the pictures it shows on website there from when it was first opened
Apartments are OK outdated but not dirty no air conditioning and fans are useless. Breakfast was good but dinner and tea rubbish. Snack bar is awful onion ring or hot dogs or chicken nuggets or burgers. The entertainment is rubbish just 1 women doing everything we came for 2 weeks and was bored after 5 days I wouldn't return needs updating and better entertainment
This is our second time staying at the SMY Tahona so we knew what to expect when arrived. I don't understand the reviews about the food as it is significantly better than our last stay. All I can think is, there are some very picky eaters who shouldn't pay for 3/4* and expect 5/6*. For breakfast there is everything you would expect on a full English whilst they also provide a continental breakfast, cereals and yogurts. The meals each day are what you would expect of any all inclusive but have to say there was curry night, pizza, oriental and Italian.
The rooms...yes they are dated. The hotel is being upgraded slowly and this was evident in some of the rooms. However, the cleaners are in everyday and towels changed. The beds are firm so if you like a soft bed you may not be comfortable but we had no issues.
The staff in this hotel are fantastic and will help you if they can. The waiting/bar staff are very friendly and keep the pool area and restaurant clean. We asked for extra pillows and maintenance brought them within 20 minutes.
I must give a special shout out to the lifeguard/soccorista. He is amazing at his job and goes above and beyond his role. Some parents complained that he was too strict and then very quickly realised that he was protecting their kids from drowning! The kids were excited to see him and one day there was a young lad struggling to swim and he got in the pool and taught him to swim. He is a credit to this hotel! Also, he will remove towels from the sun beds if people are reserving them and disappearing for half a day.
Overall, this hotel is old and dated and I am sure management are well aware but you don't come on holiday to sit in your room.
