Located right on the beachfront with direct access to the beautiful Playamar Beach, just 2 kilometres from Torremolinos city centre (Malaga), this award winning hotel boasts 15,000 m2 of facilities, making this establishment a spectacular theme hotel with a huge choice of entertainment activities for children and adults. Malaga airport and Malaga coach station are just 8 kilometres from this family-friendly hotel and María Zambrano-AVE high speed train station is 20 minutes away. This stunning establishment offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit all clients' needs, ranging from economy rooms to family room pool with kitchenette.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We stayed for a week in August on a half-board basis and unfortunately came away very disappointed. The hotel was completely full and simply did not seem able to cope with the number of guests.
There were queues everywhere – at reception, the pool bar and particularly the restaurant. On several occasions we waited up to half an hour just to get into breakfast or dinner. Once inside, tables were often left uncleared and the restaurant frequently felt chaotic and untidy. Service was extremely slow; we regularly waited a long time to order drinks, and we found some of the restaurant staff indifferent and, at times, bordering on rude.
The food itself was mediocre and certainly not of the standard we expected from the Sol brand. Despite having paid for half board, we actually ended up eating out on several occasions because of the poor quality of the food, the lengthy queues and the general state and atmosphere of the restaurant. This was particularly disappointing as we had specifically chosen and paid for half board.
The condition of the room was also disappointing and in need of some attention. There were noticeable gaps between the floorboards and some of the light sockets/fittings were loose. The air conditioning was poor and struggled to keep the room comfortably cool, which was particularly frustrating in the August heat. Overall, the room felt tired and not particularly well maintained.
The pool area was another major disappointment. Sunbeds were in very short supply, with people leaving towels on them and disappearing for hours. Despite this being an obvious problem, there appeared to be little or no enforcement by the hotel. The pools themselves were absolutely packed, yet children weren’t even allowed to use small balls to play with in the water.
The whole hotel felt extremely busy, crowded and noisy. There was constant loud music around the pool during the day, followed by loud entertainment late into the evening, so there was very little opportunity to simply relax.
We fully appreciate that August is peak season and expected the hotel to be busy. However, there is a difference between a busy hotel and one that appears to be operating beyond what its facilities and staffing levels can comfortably accommodate. When guests are routinely queuing for meals, struggling to find sunbeds and waiting for tables to be cleared, it significantly affects the overall experience.
For us, the overcrowding, queues, poor food, restaurant experience, shortage of sunbeds, noise and tired condition of the rooms really affected what should have been an enjoyable holiday. Having paid for half board but choosing to spend additional money eating elsewhere says a great deal about our experience.
Unfortunately, this was not the standard we expected from the Sol brand and we would not choose to return.
Rooms were clean but definitely not 4 star 3star at best very dated only 1 plug in every room wardrobe door came off and towel rail . Food was repetitive restaurant was chaotic queue was massive. Staff were indifferent at times ignorant. Definitely not impressed. Not value for money .
We stayed here in july/august 2026 so to start good pools were great ans the salon was fantastic although treatments are an extra cost. Only problem with pool is if you have younger children there is only one shallow area and its grts really busy. Also witnessed women going into pool.with shoes on and one woman took her daughter from the pool and stood by the edge of the pool with her removed her swimwear and let her urinate at the side of the pool. When we complained nothing was done as none od the lifeguards etc speak any english. Room was average. 5 of us were in the room and there was enough space in the area for me and partner but 3 kids were crammed into a small.place with no window. Cleaners came everyday but literally made the bed. Sheets were never changed and floor not swept amongst other things. Had to call reception for toilet roll and fresh towels. The entertainment on an evening was awful. If your English I wouldn't bother as its all in Spanish and they only have a one week programme so if you go for 2 weeks your watching the same shows the second week. As for the food well let's say we ended up eating out more or skipping meals. The food again is on a one week turnaround although the options don't differ much from one night to the next. The only kids food is pizza chicken nuggets fries and plain pasta every single lunchtime and evening. The meat was awful and was very frequently not cooked properly to the point where I stopped my children having any meat. When we did eat at the hotel we had salad and my daughter just ate bread so we started eating out of the hotel. Overall it looks a nice hotel and looks lovely but the reality really just isn't that. Certainly wont be going back and wouldn't recommend to English families mainly because of the food and entertainment just isn't a good enough standard especially for children.
After reading reviews, we were a little bit worried. However, we had nothing to worry about. The hotel itself is clean and spacious. Checking in took a little longer than we expected but there was 8 of us and it was the middle of the day, so we weren't too bothered. Only one room was ready , so we put all the cases into it and went for lunch(we were half board). The choice at lunchtime was amazing. Lots of different kinds of foods that suited all tastes, from a lite lunch to a three course if you wanted. Drinks weren't included but they were reasonably priced. Only downside, you didn't get water on the table, you had to buy it. After lunch our rooms were ready so we went to them, got unpacked and headed to the pool. After reading the reviews about sunbeds, we were not hopeful at getting any. But we did. In fact we got sunbeds every time we went to the pool (the splash pool we had a 2 and 4 year old in our family). We got 6 sunbeds every time, next to each other. The rule is correct about towels and we saw notices being put onto sunbeds that had been empty for some time. We managed to all go for lunch at the same time ( as soon as the restaurant opened - no queues) and we were back before the hour limit on empty sunbeds. The splash pool is amazing and the boys as well as their parents loved it. We occasionally went into the big pool for a swim and for some of the activities. The areas around the pools were clean, although a little crowded sometimes due to placing sunbeds wherever people wanted, but there wasn't a problem to get by. The pool next to the big pool is a little cooler, but refreshing in the August sunshine. The pool at the back of the hotel is quieter but sunbeds are situated on the grass so the side of the pool was a bit dirty, from wet feet on the ground. You could hire day beds at this pool for 25 euros a day. The beach is just outside the gate at the back of the hotel and across the road. It is a beautiful beach. Lots of sun loungers 7.50 euros for the day. The rooms in the hotel were spacious enough. Myself and my husband had two beds together and my daughters and their families moved their beds so that they were all alongside each other, which made the room more spacious than it being at the bottom of the bed. The Fridge was a decent size and there was a kettle and a few teabags, coffee sachets and sugar in the room. The bathroom was very large (one of the largest I have seen. The shower was good, with good pressure. Large mirror and good lighting in the bathroom. The wardrobe in the room was mirrored so full length mirror on each double wardrobe (x3). The safe was free, unlike some hotels that charge rental. The aircon was OK, although a little noisy. ( a bit of a rattle) It was not one of the refurbished ones. The balcony was large with 2 seats and a coffee table. We were on the 9th floor and although we didn't book it, had a sea view as well as a city view. We had plenty of plug sockets in our room but both my daughters only had three in each of their rooms. They took an extension cable as people had said to do in reviews. I took a travel plug with USB ports in it. The hotel has lots of great restaurants nearby in both directions out of the back gate, accessible by room key card (you can get more than one key card, if needed). Lots of bars for a refreshing beer on the way for dinner in the evening. Also, activities for children along the beach (inflatable castles, trampolines etc) We tried to find places to eat that had aircon as it was very hot. Couple of shoot outs to Tudor Rose, Angus steakhouse and La Favorita Pizzeria Ristorante (separate reviews) We opted to have lunch at the hotel and eat out each evening. We swapped that one day to find the Evening meal was pretty simialr to the lunch meals. Well worth a visit, don't let the reviews put you off.
Bit of a long review but detailed 🙂
Just returned from a week’s holiday, we had a lovely week however more negatives than positives with this hotel. If you book be prepared for a very busy hotel. This was a return visit for us from approx. 10 years ago where we had a lovely experience hence going back.
Family of 3, child a teenager. We booked a standard room with sea view / balcony. Half board.
Checking in, staff friendly, straight away tried to offer an upgrade to a family suite at €490, we didn’t go for this then they asked if we wanted to upgrade to all inclusive, think they said €43 each a day. We didn’t take this either as wanted the flexibility of food and drink in and out of the hotel.
Went to our room, in the old part of the hotel, room was old and tired and our sons bed was put at the end of our bed, to sleep at the bottom, no gap and hardly any room to move round. We were so disappointed, far from 4 star. I’m not one to complain or moan but we paid a lot of money for our our holiday. We went to reception. Explained and asked if there was anything they could do. They moved us to the new part of the hotel, newly renovated room, more space and lovely bathroom. No balcony or sea view but this was the compromise of moving. Lovely room and beds so comfy too.
After about 3 days, shower in the morning and the whole bathroom completely flooded, went into the bedroom, water coming out the floor and under toilet. Quickly went reception and it was our room and two others in our row. Straight away engineer advised we have to move rooms. Advised receptionist we were not going back into the old part. This was first thing in the morning. She took my mobile and said she will check what’s available and call me shortly. Come 2ish, no call. Went to customer services, explained situation again, he spoke to someone senior who I saw just shrug his shoulders. They dont apologise or have any sympathy. They moved us to a third room, family room overlooking the main pool area. Room was ok. Just accepted and enjoyed the rest of our week.
Food, good selection. We ate breakfast every morning there, meals on most evenings and ventured out other nights. Drinks reasonably priced too. No complaints at all. Nice to sit on the outside part for eating.
Pool areas - main pool very busy, young families. Smaller pool at the back much quieter and relaxed. We opted for this pool.
Nice to walk to to Torremolinos each day, nice bars and restaurants.
We had Ubers which were reasonably priced to Fuengirola, would recommend here for the Tuesday market, 400 plus stalls. Also to Benalmádena a couple of times, love it here and to Málaga. Really nice and would recommend.
We had a lovely family holiday but would not return to Sol Príncipe.
