- Sandos Griego Hotel

The Sandos Griego Hotel situated right in the centre of TORREMOLINOS, means guests can visit the city¿s main places of interest on foot. Of particular note are the panoramic views of the swimming pool. It's 414 rooms are the perfect place in which to relax after a day of activities. We have Cot and High Chair for children. The facilities Sun beds are rounded off with the pool.
A large group of us stayed here for a week in August. On arrival we were very disappointed as it was so run down. We looked out to the pool area it was rammed, not adequate for the volume of customers. Our room floor was very dirty, my daughter asked the cleaner to come in and clean the bathroom floor as it was so dirty. She mopped the dirt into the corner and left it there. Do they not use hoovers? The food was fine, wouldn’t say wonderful but filled a hole. If you want a sunbed near the pool you have to get up at 7, put a towel on a deck chair in the position you would like your lounger in and come back after 8:45 am when staff member releases the sunbed, lift it and swap it with the deck chair. On the plus side, most of the staff were lovely and very helpful. They work very hard. This hotel needs updating and a deep clean.
Not a 4 hotel — barely 2 in our experience**
We stayed at Sandos Grigio Hotel for 4 nights as a family of four during the summer holidays, so we expected it to be busy. However, “busy” is an understatement. The hotel felt overcrowded, grubby, unkempt, outdated and very basic. We were honestly glad we weren’t staying any longer.
The staff worked incredibly hard, but there simply didn’t seem to be enough of them to meet the needs of the number of guests. The hotel itself is very deceptive: on entering, reception looks lovely and gives the impression of a much higher-standard hotel. Unfortunately, once you head up just one flight of stairs, the reality is very different.
Our room was a good size, as was the bathroom. It was surface-level clean, but very dated. There was also a strange partition ceiling that appeared to be covering something underneath, which didn’t exactly inspire confidence.
The lifts were another issue. We were staying on the top floor and could rarely get a lift when we needed one. When we did manage to get one, they were so rickety that we genuinely felt like we were putting ourselves at risk, so we ended up taking the stairs every time. Good exercise at least! 😂
The food was a major disappointment. We found it bland, repetitive and very basic — essentially a rotation of slop — and chose to eat out for most of our meals. The all-inclusive drinks weren’t much better. Cocktails were premixed, overly sugary and weak, with only two beer options. Even more concerning, crockery, cups and glasses often felt dirty, and on more than one occasion there was lipstick from a previous guest still attached.
We deliberately spent as much time outside the hotel as possible, including several beach days, which was definitely a bonus given how overcrowded the hotel was. One positive is the location, as it’s close to shops and restaurants. All-inclusive guests can also use the beach BBQ facilities and toilets, which we appreciated.
The train station is also only around a 10-minute walk away, which was a real bonus. We took the train to Malaga and had a brilliant day out. For the four of us, the return train tickets cost just €20 in total, so there was absolutely no need to pay expensive excursion prices. It was an easy and affordable way to explore Malaga independently.
A special mention also has to go to Little Italy, which is close to the hotel. We highly recommend it — lovely food and genuinely top-quality service. It was a much more enjoyable dining experience than the hotel buffet.
When I originally booked, the TripAdvisor reviews seemed reasonably positive. Closer to our holiday, I checked again and noticed a significant number of 1-star reviews. In hindsight, that actually helped because I travelled with very low expectations and therefore wasn’t as disappointed as I might otherwise have been.
There are some positives, particularly the hardworking staff, decent-sized rooms, location, easy access to the train station, nearby restaurants and the beach facilities. However, if you’ve already booked, please do not expect a 4-star experience, because you are likely to be very disappointed.
Based on our experience, I would advise doing plenty of research before booking and, if possible, choosing elsewhere. If you do stay, make the most of the surrounding area — Malaga by train and Little Italy were definite highlights of our trip.
We spent a great week from the 27th may to 3rd June, weather great sunny every day, we sunbathed and relax up on the 8th floor solarium had a well stocked bar with beer and softies, couldn't fault the food at breakfast lunch and dinner was a good selection, went to the beach with the coach supplied by the hotel ,beach bar was good, all the hotel staff worked very hard and all very helpful well done all of you, we would definitely return thank you sandos griego,.
Prior to my visit I saw many many bad reviews about this hotel and I was apprehensive about it. However I’d like to comment on my experience.
Came here with my friend for our first holiday together. We arrived at mid day and were told we couldn’t check in until 3pm (we had been up since 1am) but we just went to get a drink. We then asked at 2:30 if we could check in any earlier as we were falling asleep in reception and they were very accommodating and gave us our room. The lady at reception was very nice to us.
At first glance the hotel kind of seems run down, the entrance doors could do with being renewed. The pool at first glance was rammed and I knew i wouldn’t spend my time there. The poor bar was busy and you’d be waiting a while for a drink sometimes but they do have a little all inclusive help yourself area next too it for beers, pop and water.
The food was really nice in my opinion, at a buffet I generally don’t think you can expect a 10/10 meal as they are catering to a load of people. But it’s nice enough.
The room was lovely however the floor was dirty. I’d like to give a special mention to the maids who were on duty on the 16th aug. I speak a little bit of spanish and always try to communicate in the local language if i can. They were very patient and took time out of their day to communicate with me which I was so greatful for.
My friend and I spent 2 days at aqualand, went shopping in malaga and went to the beach once. Torremolinos center is a lovely little area to go out and about with some nice restaurants. I also highly recommend going to the marina in benelmadina as the food there is 10/10, we ate at gringos and toro.
This hotel is what you make of it. We didn’t really spend much time in the hotel itself I probably wouldn’t recommend it for family’s as there’s not much to do.
I also seen a lot of negative comments on the spanish. Spanish individuals are lovely, not everyone speaks english. If you take the time to learn their language they will absolutely give you their time. I have been coming to spain for years and never have I had a negative experience with them. All wonderful people and a wonderful country. They don’t have to cater to the english but they do and i think that’s something we should be greatful for.
Overall I had a great time, I probably wouldn’t return to the hotel however I think all the staff were wonderful and did what they could with what they were given!
We had a great stay at the Sandos Griego Hotel and really enjoyed our time there. The food was one of the highlights — there was always something available to eat, with plenty of choice, so we never struggled to find something we liked.
Unfortunately, the entertainment was a big disappointment, especially as we stayed for 11 nights. The entertainment seemed to be repeated each week, which isn’t ideal when you’re staying for nearly two weeks. The young male and female entertainers really need to improve their entertainment skills and interaction with guests. On the days when activities were planned, they often didn’t happen, or there would only be one activity, and they didn’t really make much effort to get people involved.
The children’s entertainment was particularly disappointing. In 11 nights, the kids’ mini disco only took place three times, which I found shocking. There was very little for children to do at this hotel, which was a shame, especially for families.
The pool experience also seemed to depend on which lifeguard was on duty. Some lifeguards were happy to allow children to play ball games and have fun in the pool, while others were quite strict and even took balls away from children who were playing nicely and not causing any problems. This made the experience inconsistent.
I also had a disappointing experience with Nieves at the coffee bar. Unfortunately, I found her to be quite rude and abrupt and rarely saw a smile. On occasions, she would speak loudly in Spanish to English-speaking guests, which I found uncomfortable and unnecessary. I appreciate that there can sometimes be language barriers, but staff should make an effort to communicate politely and respectfully with all guests. A little more patience and customer service training would definitely be beneficial.
Overall, we had a great holiday and enjoyed the hotel, food and our stay, but the entertainment, children’s activities and some aspects of the customer service definitely need improvement. With better entertainment, more activities and a more consistent approach around the pool, as well as friendlier customer service, this hotel could be even better.
