The Hotel Riu Nautilus enjoys Torremolinos, Malaga, Spain. This quiet hotel is perfect for couples and groups of friends. The hotel is close to Torremolinos beach and just 700m from Puerto Marina (the marina). In addition to offering splendid views of the coast, this hotel includes a fresh water swimming pool, a solarium terrace, a bar with a terrace and the promenade of Torremolinos right behind the hotel. Thanks to RIU Hotels' quality and excellent service, the buffet restaurant offers a wide variety of dishesand flavours giving you the opportunity to sample the best recipes of Andalusia. At the Hotel Riu Nautilus you'll find shows and live music, whilst in the surrounding area you can enjoy sports such as horse riding, cycling, tennis, golf at many nearby courses and water sports for all ages. The area of Torremolinos offers wonderful night-life, including many shops, bars, clubs and restaurants.
I have stayed at this hotel several times, and was interested to see how it would be after the recent renovations. Certainly some things are better, the decoration, particularly in the lobby is beautiful. The restaurant is more spacious and bright and contemporary. Bedrooms are nicely decorated, with excellent showers. There are a lot more sunbeds (although people still get up early to reserve them!).
The not so good -
However the thing that keeps me returning to the hotel is the staff. They are friendly, professional and helpful. I'd particularly like to mention Javier on reception, who has helped me on many occasions and always greets us with a smile. And Fernando in the bar. I work in travel and visit many hotels all over the world. Not only is Fernando the most professional and competent barman I have come across, he remembers guests and welcomes them back to hotel like they are old friends. Truly impressive, an asset to the hotel.
I'm looking forward already to my next visit.
We recently stayed at the renovated Riu Nautilus (now upgraded to a 'Palace'). Having stayed here a few times previously and being firm fans of the Riu brand, we were excited to see the changes and improvements.
Firstly, and sadly, though bluntly this hotel is NOT a Palace. A few licks of paint and renovations to rooms and common parts, does not magically make it worthy of this title and sadly that just damages the Riu Palace brand. (If you wish to see a true Riu Palace then the template should be the Riu Palace Maspalomas, which must rank as the pearl in the Riu shell. Everything is tip-top and you relax and immerse into it as soon as you arrive.)
However, back to the Nautilus...we received a welcome and despite having requested an early check-in, this was sadly not possible. It would have been nice to be welcomed as returning Riu guests, as we are Riu Gold members. We had requested a room in a specific location (numerous room options provided); this was sent to reception over two months before our arrival and we sent subsequent emails, which is what we had been advised to do, on our prior visit. Alas, these appear to have been ignored, as we had a room on a lower floor and further back from the sea. The positives: The hotel is extremely clean and the staff work very hard. The food quality has definitely improved since it gained 'Palace' status. The hotel is in a fantastic location on the beach, which we used everyday, as it was like sardines round the pool area, as the sun-beds are so close to one another. A special thank you goes to Cristina in the restaurant, who really looked after us on our last evening. She is an absolute credit to Riu. Ok, so would we return? Possibly; though, we'd like to see some 'improvements'. We'd hope in 12 months this hotel looks and feels more like a Riu Palace and not one that has the label, but not the standards.
Arrived 2nd July to this fantastic hotel. This is our third time returning and all I can say is wow wow wow. From walking through the front door you are met with friendly, smiley faces who go above and beyond to make your stay an enjoyable one. Everyone at this hotel is absolutely amazing they are a credit to Riu Nautillas. A very special thankyou to Xavier who as always goes the extra mile. He even sent us an email as soon as the room was ready and greeted us with a very welcome cool drink after a long journey. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel. It is spotless thanks to all the hardworking staff. The refurbishment is just gorgeous. Thankyou to. management and staff for keeping this hotel to a five star standard
Fantastic staff, excellent catering and very clean and well maintained hotel. My only suggestion is they could provide better games and entertainment with an animation team (as they do in Canary Islands and Cape Verde properties). The Aquagym sessions would be better7 days a week involving different styles and content generated by several staff. There could also be other sessions like darts, pétanque and yoga each day. The current stage could be made much bigger (3 times wider and twice deep) allowing the animation team to put on dancing and singing shows.
Just returned on the 12th july from the newly named RIU palace Nautilus, been many times with my wife, and we were very impressed with the changes to the refurbishment of the hotel.Hotel entrance is very impressive, and as always greeted with pleasant reception staff, we asked for a room around room 130 in annex, and that’s what we got, many thanks for that, all staff are pleasant and very polite, food as good as ever, and the rooms are very spacious with plenty of drawers. The shower in the bathroom is excellent, and the sun loungers looking down to the pool are an extra bonus with the spacious room , unlike the ones round the pool which are a bit close to each other. A bonus would be a few more umbrellas up on that upper floor, but looking forward already to next year at this fantastic hotel, Susan and Billy Bell
