This historic hotel is situated just across the promenade in Torremolinos, in the quiet area between La Carihuela and Solymar districts a 10 to 15 minute walk from the centre of the popular resort. Links to the public transport are available within 100 metres and the Malaga airport is just 20 minutes' drive away. Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, all of the dining options of the venue come with an added bonus of wonderful views. Regardless if one is enjoying a meal at the buffet restaurant, signature cocktail in the bar or snack in the garden, the sea will always be within his/hers gaze. The same holds true for the rooms, each of the well-appointed units comes with a balcony offering side or full sea views.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Lovely hotel, fantastic position, lovely breakfast, friendly staff. Hairdryer attached to wall in bathroom. Didn’t like our balcony very small room 605. Good price on booking.com Small pool for the size of the hotel. On the beach front. Nice snack bar. No curtesy room to use on leaving the hotel, which is a problem when flying late. Loved staying here would definitely stay again, if the price is right.
My husband and I have just returned from an 8-night stay at the Pez Espada, and overall we had a fantastic holiday. The hotel has so much going for it, and we’d happily stay here again.
The positives
The staff throughout the hotel were incredibly warm, friendly and welcoming. Everyone we encountered worked hard and always had a smile on their face, which really added to the experience.
Our room was clean, bright and modern, with a very comfortable bed that gave us a great night’s sleep. Housekeeping did an excellent job throughout our stay.
The pool area was lovely. There were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas available, so there was never any need to rush out early to reserve one. The sunbeds were regularly cleaned, the pool itself was well maintained, and it was reassuring to see a lifeguard on duty throughout the day.
The entertainment team also put on a variety of daily activities, including aqua aerobics and bingo, which created a nice atmosphere without feeling over the top.
The location is one of the hotel’s biggest selling points. It has direct access to the beach and is surrounded by plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. It’s also only around a 10–15 minute walk to Benalmádena Marina, making it an ideal base for exploring the area.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, and breakfast was good. The restaurant was always clean and well organised, the staff were attentive and efficient, and there was a good selection of hot and cold food, pastries, fruit and drinks to choose from each morning.
A few areas for improvement
Although the room itself was lovely, the storage could be improved. A few more shelves and additional hangers in the wardrobe would make a big difference, particularly for guests staying a week or longer.
The poolside toilets are probably the area most in need of refurbishment. The steps leading down are covered in artificial grass, which became quite soggy, and the cubicles have saloon-style doors that don’t offer much privacy. Updating these facilities would really improve the pool area.
The grass surrounding the sunbeds on the middle and lower terraces was also quite boggy and muddy in places, which wasn’t ideal when walking around in flip flops.
We stayed in a classic room and, after reading some previous reviews, I was slightly concerned that we’d only be looking out over the car park. While the car park is directly below, if you look slightly to the right there’s actually a lovely view of the beach and sea. In fact, I think some hotels would market this as a side sea view. The balcony itself is fairly small, and unlike some of the upgraded room categories, the classic rooms have a standard door leading onto the balcony rather than large sliding patio doors. The balcony could also do with a little more attention, as there were quite a few bird droppings on the walls, and the table and chairs were looking a little tired.
Overall
Despite these minor points, they certainly didn’t take away from what was a wonderful holiday. The hotel’s location, friendly staff, cleanliness and relaxing atmosphere far outweighed the negatives.
We had a fantastic eight nights at the Pez Espada and wouldn’t hesitate to return. We’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for a well located beachfront hotel in Torremolinos.
A decent 4 star hotel for a few days away. We stayed 5 nights bed and breakfast.
The breakfast was really great, except the long queues for the eggs!
The hotel itself including the rooms were modern and well maintained by housekeeping.
The gym had everything you need for a decent workout as long as there is no one else in it at the same time. Cable machine, cardio machines, free weights up to 14kg and a bench.
The hotel is in a great location and bed and breakfast was ideal for trying all the restaurants within walking distance.
There is a bit of sunbed wars but there were enough for everyone if you aren’t fussy on location.
The evening entertainment was absolutely tragic, which was fine since we left the hotel every night.
The staff were really friendly and the lifeguard made a real effort to chat with everyone which was nice to see.
All in all, would absolutely stay here again!
We have just returned from a weeks holiday at this lovely hotel. Our room was a superior room with a pool view and side sea view (516) it was cleaned daily, had plenty of storage and a powerful shower. We stayed half board and the food at breakfast and dinner was nice with plenty of choice. It was always busy at breakfast and there were always long queues for the eggs, which could have been avoided with a bit more organisation. It was not busy for the evening meal, but we realised a lot of the guests only stayed on bed and breakfast basis. Some of the evening entertainment was good especially the Il Divo tribute show. The pool area had plenty of sunbeds and we were always able to find beds, although some of the grassed areas were very wet and muddy. The pool was very warm and always had a lovely lifeguard who interacted with all the guests and made sure he helped guests with walking aids and mobility issues. The hotel is located next to the beach with a promenade lined with restaurants. It is extremely close to the shops and restaurants at La Carihuela beach and about 10/15 minute walk to the marina at Benalmádena. We would definitely return to this hotel.
Excellent location, really friendly staff, a good variety of food and comfortable rooms
