Extremely Disappointing Stay
Extremely disappointing stay
What an appalling experience at the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella.
We arrived 43 hours late and had been promised an upgrade by TUI, who had contacted the hotel by email beforehand. However, on arrival, the receptionist was less than helpful and simply told us there was nothing on her screen and nothing noted, so we would just have to accept whatever room we were given. Not exactly the welcome you expect from a hotel of this standard.
The rooms were tiny, with dirty bedding and floors that clearly had not been cleaned properly. We had an incident where a cleaner went off leaving our door ajar. We went back to reception to raise our concerns and were told that a note would be made hardly a solution.
We also asked if the minibar could be emptied so that we could use it for our own drinks. We were told this would cost €15, so we ended up emptying it ourselves. Charging guests for the privilege of using an empty minibar is ridiculous.
The pool area was another major disappointment. There were loose mosaic tiles throughout the pool, which felt dangerous and certainly did not make us feel comfortable using it. And relaxing by the pool? Forget it. There is a DJs at one pool areas, and music playing at the top bar, seemingly competing with each other to see who can play the loudest. Instead of relaxing, you are subjected to a constant battle of competing music. Thankfully, the beach is within walking distance.
On our first evening in the bar, we witnessed a brawl involving police and a group of drunken guests. During the remainder of our stay, we also noticed a constant stream of women appearing to be sex workers in the bar, with staff seemingly very familiar with them. It certainly was not the atmosphere we expected from a hotel marketed as a luxury resort.
The one major positive was the food. It was genuinely amazing and probably the only thing that kept us going during the stay.
Overall, this hotel fell a long way short of what we expected. Poor room cleanliness, unhelpful reception staff, disappointing facilities and an atmosphere that was anything but relaxing. For the price and the reputation of the Hard Rock brand, we expected considerably better.
The food was excellent. Unfortunately, almost everything else about our experience was a massive disappointment.

Disappointing stay. Private events and poor service overshadowed our holiday
My husband and I had been looking forward to this holiday for a long time, but our seven night stay at Hard Rock Hotel Marbella was disappointing.
Firstly, Raquelle deserves credit. She did a brilliant job handling our complaint and arranged a different room after we raised concerns about our original room, which smelled damp and had very little storage, with just five hangers. We appreciated her help.
Unfortunately, our experience began badly. We waited at least half an hour to check in without an apology. We were then asked whether we were sure we wanted to share a room, alongside a suggestion that we must be brothers. As a married gay couple, this made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. It was particularly disappointing from a brand we understood to support LGBTQ+ guests.
Bar service was consistently unreliable. On the first evening, we waited approximately 30 minutes to order our first round, with incorrect and forgotten drinks, followed by another 20-minute wait to order a second drink that was also forgotten. I eventually approached the bar to complain after seeing drinks being prepared for people who had only just ordered. Afterwards, I noticed staff pointing towards me and appearing to discuss me on two occasions, which made me feel even more uncomfortable.
Raquelle explained that a large stag do had stretched the bar staff and reassured us that this issue was now over. However, a three-day conference then meant the outdoor area was closed to other guests for two days for private events.
Once the conference finished, a private birthday party upstairs later moved down into the bar, and the group effectively took over the space. Between the atmosphere and the unreliable service, we ended up leaving the hotel to spend our evenings elsewhere on four of our seven nights because we felt uncomfortable.
Service remained so inconsistent that we resorted to ordering directly at the bar whenever we could actually get to it. It felt as though large groups and private functions were being prioritised over guests trying to enjoy their holiday.
Guest services was also tucked away in the VIP check-in area, and we were given no clear information about where to find it. Getting help should have been more straightforward.
Raquelle’s efforts were appreciated, but a room change could not resolve the wider problems. Having booked time off work and looked forward to this break for so long, we were left feeling let down by how much of our stay was affected by service failures and private events.

Fantastic stay at Hard Rock Hotel Marbella! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We’ve had a brilliant stay at Hard Rock Hotel Marbella and are sadly leaving tomorrow! From start to finish, we’ve had a great experience.
The breakfast has been fab, the pool area is lovely, and we’ve had no issues getting sunbeds. Fresh towels are available whenever you need them, which is a great touch.
The rooms are really comfortable, cleaned daily, and we’ve all had a great night’s sleep. Despite the hotel having a lively atmosphere, it’s been lovely and quiet at night with no noisy guests disturbing us.
A special mention must go to Gorge from VIP Services, who has been excellent. He kindly sorted us out with a pool-view room and genuinely cared about making sure we had the best possible experience. His attention and personal touch really made a difference and are a real credit to the hotel.
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are genuinely sad to be leaving. Great facilities, comfortable rooms and fantastic service. We would definitely recommend Hard Rock Hotel Marbella and will absolutely be back! 🤘
Nice but not very Hard Rock experience .
Just returned from 10 days at HRH Marbella - the hotel itself is nearer Puerto Banus and in a relatively good location - maybe a 15 minute walk from the marina or a. 5 minute uber.
Check in was swift - arrived about 2 pm and the room was ready , although as a twin and not the configuration we had requested .
The room was quite small ( I compare to the HRH Tenerife ) nicely furnished though , the problem was nowhere near enough space for clothes or cases. Fine if you are staying a couple of nights but not really catering for longer stays.
Nice small balcony overlooking the pool areas from the 5th (top) floor . Comfy bed and pillows and an ok bathroom with shower.
Ate at breakfast buffet which was ok , lunch at Eden around the pool was good and one night had bar meal which was also good.
Bar service a little slow , driven mainly by cocktails being made.
Bought a couple of bits from the rock shop - although I didn’t see it open often
Pools were both nice - Ronaldo made a good atmosphere at the Eden pool - alongside the music from 11am.
There were a couple of corporate disruptions when we were there - meaning space or access limited for holiday guests due to the high number of conference delegates.
The main dissatisfier for me , and again compared to HRH Tenerife is the evening entertainment. Tenerife (same time of year) had nightly rock/ pop bands that entertained many hotel guests . Unfortunately the entertainment in Marbella was found to be average at best - very low key which seemed to encourage guests like us to venture out to Puerto Banus to find good entertainment.
I recommend for short stays where you want to relax around a nice pool , few drinks and find your evening meal and entertainment in the town .
