Boutique Hotel B51

Unfortunately, our stay was extremely disappointing from the moment we arrived, and the overall cleanliness and condition of the hotel was nowhere near what I would expect from a four-star property.

We arrived before our room was ready and asked where we could get changed. We were directed to the downstairs bathroom facilities, which were disgusting. There was faeces on a toilet seat, the toilets were visibly dirty and it genuinely looked as though the area had not been properly cleaned for at least a day. This was our first impression of the hotel.

The reception staff were also not particularly welcoming or hospitable. At one point I asked for some ice and was told there was none available, which I found very strange for a hotel of this supposed standard.

Breakfast was another disappointment. The food appeared to have been sitting out for a considerable amount of time and was extremely unappetising.

However, the room itself was by far the biggest problem. It smelled strongly of damp throughout our stay. The air-conditioning was leaking, the towels provided to us on arrival were dirty, and there was visible mould on the ceiling. There were also numerous signs that the room was poorly maintained: the skirting board was coming away from the wall, there was dirt and shredded/debris-like material inside the wardrobe, and the balcony air-conditioning units and their supports were heavily rusted and filthy.

This wasn’t limited to our room either. There was noticeable dust and dirt in various communal areas of the hotel. I have attached photographs because some of the condition really needs to be seen to be believed.

To top everything off, the luggage storage on our final day was incredibly concerning. Guests’ suitcases were simply piled around the breakfast/reception area, with luggage spilling out into the surrounding space. We weren’t given a ticket, number or any form of identification for our bags. When I returned to collect mine, I was effectively just told to go and take it. Nobody asked me to prove which luggage belonged to me. From what we experienced, there appeared to be nothing preventing somebody from walking in and taking somebody else’s suitcase.

I understand that hotels can become dated and that occasional maintenance issues happen, but this went far beyond that. There is a difference between a hotel being a little worn and there being problems with hygiene, mould, damp, dirty linen, poor maintenance and insecure luggage storage.

Based on our experience, I genuinely cannot understand how this is operating at a four-star standard. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it at its current standard.

Stayed here for 3 night and felt it was great value for money. The hotel is presented well and its location is superb, although rooms on the front are noisy.
