On arrival at the Ona Campanario apartments we couldn't get in reception as it closed at 11pm. If you are arriving late don't expect to get into your room. Fortunately a guest staying there let us in after 30 minutes hanging around and phoned the owner for the key to our room otherwise we would have had to find somewhere else for the night. It's not good customer service especially at 12.30am. Also the room we have is in the basement and its very dark and dated. There is a bar advertised on site however we were advised it has closed. Its too far to walk downhill and back uphill to shops and bars and we are quite active. Don't bother.
I booked this holiday as a cheap get away and seeing reviews I was getting a little worried. To start with I emailed them as I had noticed in photos no one in the pool had inflatables and they replied to say they weren’t allowed. I knew my kids would be disappointed with this. I’d seen comments about dirty rooms so I was worried as I walked into ours. But wow I was blown away! It has been recently painted as could smell paint, didn’t bother me as it was so clean and fresh. The apartment we had was ground floor and massive, lovely patio and grass area. 2 good sized rooms and a living room/sofa bed. Kitchen was old but well equipped, could have done with more cereal type bowls but not a massive deal. We had a washing machine so I got all our washing done which as a mum what a bonus having none to do when we got home! It was cleaned half way through the week, for me that’s enough I don’t like maids in my room lots. It was definitely a quiet complex,we thought maybe lots had been sold for private residence and wondered if that the end game for all the apartments? I knew we would have no entertainment, this is new kind of holiday for us and doing self catering and decided we definitely missed the all inclusive and corny entertainment haha! The pools were lovely and the grounds but it was very quiet and would more suit people who don’t really like being around kids! My kids missed making friends(son made one lovely friend) but I think he missed having lots of kids to play with. The life guards are grumpy and tell you off all the time. Someone said in a review the grass had thorns in it I think it’s just their type of grass it’s a little spikey so I’d advise shoes. I don’t think there was enough umbrellas a few more would of been great. Lots of sunbeds they are piled up never had an issue getting one which is a first! There are lots of steps around the complex but with slopes next to them that I thought were a little steep. Hotel is at the top of a hill but as able people we didn’t find it steep to walk up and down. There are some lovely restaurants along the main road and a couple of little mini supermarkets. We walked to Lidl to do a big shop and got a uber back for €18 they def aren’t cheap! We went to Marbella one evening which was lovely. We also went to the waterpark twice which the kids loved. You can get a bus but we did get Ubers there as didn’t want to listen to the kids moaning about walking in the heat and tbh I didn’t want to either so worth it! I prob only wouldn’t go back as we decided we much prefer not having to cook and wash up so on that note I don’t think it’s a bad little place at all
As always positives & negatives on this place: Positives:
Not so positive:
Overall it was ok but doubt would book again. If you’re looking for cheap holiday tho suspect you’ll struggle to beat on price.
We stayed for 4 days and got the bottom-floor room: mostly a great experience, but a few negatives to note. Positives- Great location, close to lovely restaurants The room was clean and very spacious, had air-con and kitchen amenities Quiet area, lovely staff Negatives- The terrace door didn't have a lock, meaning anyone could go into our room at any time, seeing as the reception is always open, any stranger could just waltz in and rob our room, meaning I had to carry all of our valuables everywhere we went. The lifeguards were useless, just sat on their phones the entire time, not even looking towards the pool, even when small children were swimming. The residents who lived there were very rude and unwelcoming, staring with no shame and disgusted faces, rolling their eyes at us just because we are foreign. So if you are looking to feel welcomed, this may not be the place.
Other than that, it was a lovely holiday and great value for money. The pools were lovely, and the room was also lovely. Thank you, Ona!
Everything in this review is to be expected and is reflected in the price and budget.
We required an apartment to suit 5 . Got the 2 bedroom apartment which was very spacious.
Fabulously relaxing . Nice quiet area amongst residential streets with gorgeous houses.
With a small row of restaurants and supermarkets about 10 mins walk away.
With a family of wild boar late at night a marvel to see.
Living area with kitchenette and vast balcony/terrace and 2 bedrooms one larger than the other both with ample storage and a safe.
Living area had room for a sizeable dining table and sofa bed and armchair. Kitchen equipped with large fridge freezer, microwave and coffee machine as well as toaster and kettle. We had an iron/board too.
All areas were clean and tidy .
Only downside was the air con was only in the living room but was working well. However we had large floor fans for both bedrooms but they never cooled them enough just circled warm air unless you left the bedroom doors opened to tap into the air conditioned living room.
Pool area and gardens were lovely and well kept.
The map provided by the reception shows a pool bar but we never saw this open. There is a working gym however we didnt use.
Plenty of good quality sunbeds but not so many umbrellas or shade.
The buildings could do with a paint especially the blue domes.
The tiles on balcony showed some cracking and stains and need some paint to spruce it up ,bathroom in places, lock on bathroom door and issue with being accidentally stuck on the balcony as the door could lock without warning.
However we could see and hear signs of odd jobs being sone such as repairing grass areas .
Noticed grime on the inner edges of the pool.
Pool toilets are immaculate.
All in all i would use them again. Staff were helpful and informative.
Yes the lifeguarding is pointless if they are glued to their phone.
