This is a first class resort in a great location. Beautiful well kept gardens great restaurant and entertainment and a boardwalk just outside resort on sea front for leisurely strolls with other restaurants close by and a bus stop. Its worth mentioning there are quite a few steps to negotiate around the resort but staff are great and on hand to help with luggage etc.
Check in was an easy, quick friendly experience. Was given a key card each for the room (4 of us). We were on the top floor so quite a few stairs to climb. The room was large, separate living/dining room, two large separate bedrooms with wardrobes and comfy beds. 2 bathrooms. Free safe. Downside, no cleaning for a full week and there is a bit of an ant problem. We'll equipped kitchen, plates, glasses cups, washing liquid, sponges, dishwasher, dishwasher tablets. Has a free gym on site and 2 pools, one big one which is freezing and a smaller heated one. Overall a really good holiday.
Location was hit and miss, the main entrance to Dona lola was next to a dual carriageway, you had to walk over a bridge to get to the otherside.
Yet the otherside was next to the beach. Checked in and was told where our apartment was..
Nearest to the road , 48 steps up no lift.
Definately not a resort for people with mobility issues or the elderly.
The adult pool (which is no longer adult) was a warm pool, supposed to be a quiet area, no inflatables ( signs up)
But each afternoon lots of children screaming and jumping in with inflatables.
The larger pool down the hill was freezing but lovely to chill out, not many kids there.
Apartment was very clean and very well equipped. Included englisg tv channels & free wifi.
Could do with a little updating though. The area in general looked a little tired. Lots of walking or uber to get places as not alot around.
Mini markets onsite and a few nice restaurants.
Wouldn't visit again.
If you walk the boardwalk turn right from the gate out to the beach. Keep going until you reach pirates beach bar. Great place. Then carry on to ocean beach. After that the marina then Andys beach bar.
Marbella old town is a must, and Mijas Pueblo is stunning
Lovely quiet resort in a good location with a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Check in was quick and easy, staff helpful. Our apartment was lovely - spacious, modern, clean and a great price. The pool area was great although sometimes had to wait for a sunbed from people leaving towels to book seats. The pool uncrowded. The grounds were very well kept and pretty. Restaurants good with plenty of choice and the mini mart on site did the best fresh croissants. Lovely to be next to the beach and good location for easy access to other places nearby - Aquamijas waterpark was great and the Bioparc in Fuengirola. We had a hire car so easy to get around. Would stay here again
It’s our last night here at the Macdonald Dona Lola Resort and I have to say I’m feeling a little disappointed. I came away on a last minute break with my daughter and 2 grandsons. When we arrived check in went smoothly enough - staff were friendly and we got into our 2 bedroom apartment - everything seemed fine, the kitchen was well equipped and air conditioning units worked well. There are a nice selection of restaurants and a mini market next to the resort. The trouble began after we tried to cook food in our apartment (this is after all a self catering resort). The electricity kept going off which was extremely frustrating. I reported this to reception several times but nothing was done about it. I was told that the system was unable to cope if there were a few electrical appliances on at the same time - so if you are going to cook something then make sure the air conditioning is turned off and open the window instead of using the extractor fan…!? I have previously stayed at the Macdonald Villacana resort in Estapona and never had any problems. The best resort I have to say is the Marriott Andalusia which is also in Estapona…excellent place to stay. The Dona Lola Resort has a nice large pool that overlooks the beach but the rooms are a little tired with no housekeeping and you have to ask for towels to be changed On a positive note the grounds are well kept and the resort is clean and tidy…would I return…possibly.
