Fuerte Marbella

Having paid over €3,000 for four nights at El Fuerte Marbella, we reasonably expected a high standard of accommodation, attentive service and a relaxing luxury experience. Unfortunately, what we encountered fell considerably short of those expectations.

Our room was dark and underwhelming. Even basic attention to detail was lacking, with bottled water replenished daily but no drinking glasses provided.

Poolside service was very disappointing from the outset. On arrival there was no offer of assistance in locating sunloungers, and the only available beds were situated in a muddy area without cushions. Following rainfall, mattresses had been left uncovered overnight and were completely saturated the following morning. Hardly the level of preparation or attention one expects from a luxury hotel.

Breakfast service, however, was where standards fell most noticeably short.

On several mornings, tables were inadequately prepared, frequently missing cups, plates, knives and forks. Guests should not have to repeatedly request basic table settings in a five star establishment.

Equally unacceptable was the failure to clear tables promptly. Dirty plates and used dishes remained on neighbouring tables long after guests had departed, creating an unpleasant dining environment. The overall impression was of a poorly organised service lacking supervision, attention to detail and the polished professionalism expected at this level.

More seriously, when we requested fresh hot water for tea, because the original pot smelled strongly of coffee, two members of the breakfast team responded aggressively, with one raising his voice at us in front of other guests and the other actually threw missing teabags across the table at us.

Such behaviour is totally unacceptable in any hospitality setting, regardless of its star rating.

Despite reporting the incident to management during our stay, we received no personal apology or acknowledgement from the restaurant manager. This lack of accountability was particularly disappointing and left us feeling sufficiently uncomfortable that we chose not to use the hotel’s restaurants or bars for the remainder of our visit.

Regrettably, the handling of our complaint has been even more disappointing than the stay itself.

What should have been addressed promptly and professionally became weeks of contradictory correspondence, changing compensation proposals and an exhausting exchange between the hotel and our travel agent.

Rather than demonstrating decisive management and genuine concern for guest satisfaction, the process was characterised by confusion, poor communication and an apparent reluctance to take ownership.

For an establishment positioning itself within the luxury market, this is particularly difficult to understand.

Five star hospitality is not simply about stylish surroundings, impressive facilities or premium pricing. It is about consistently excellent service, anticipating guests’ needs, maintaining impeccable standards and responding professionally when those standards are not met.

In our experience, El Fuerte failed to deliver on these fundamental expectations.

Perhaps most tellingly, the hotel’s handling of our complaint has ultimately done more damage to our impression of the property than the original shortcomings.

El Fuerte Marbella commands five star prices, but its table service, attention to detail, management accountability and complaint resolution fell far below what we would consider acceptable five star standards.

An expensive lesson, and certainly not an experience we would wish to repeat.

EL FUERTE PARADISE ❤️

Our second stay at El Fuerte was just as incredible as our first, and once again, it proved to be a true paradise.

From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. A huge thank you to Sandra, who once again took such great care of us from making our reservation right through to check-out. She was so helpful and attentive, and made sure everything was exactly as we had requested, including the room type we had booked. It really made such a difference and was very much appreciated.

The extensive outdoor sunbathing areas are fantastic, with plenty of comfortable loungers, and the beautiful beachfront location is private, peaceful and secure.

The restaurant is stunning, and breakfast is absolutely amazing, with so much choice. Having champagne available at breakfast, included in the price at no extra charge, is such a lovely touch!

The Select area is truly outstanding and was well worth booking. It’s the perfect place to relax throughout the day, whether you want to enjoy snacks, a light lunch or a few drinks. It’s also a lovely place to unwind in the evening and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

This hotel really does tick every box. Beautiful surroundings, outstanding facilities, excellent food and wonderful staff make it somewhere we can’t wait to return to.

We had a lovely 9 nights in a sea view suite. The room was fabulous, clean and relaxing with fantastic views. The hotel was excellent! All of the staff were absolutely fantastic and that was one thing that stood out so much. From breakfast staff to housekeeping to reception, all really friendly and professional. The location was also very convenient. We are regular visitors to Marbella and have stayed at several hotels in the area from Puerto Romano to Marbella Club. Our stay here at El Fuerte was equally as pleasant and really enjoyable & certainly far better value.. We will definitely be planning to come back and stay in 2027. Thank you!
