Hotel Experience
We are just back from holiday in the IPV hotel. The hotel is very clean good large room. Breakfast was good also a 15 minutes walk to the main centre. Pool area is lovely but the lifeguard needs to be on a high chair looking over the pool because there was an emergency in the pool and only for the guests Alerting the emergency and guests helping out first. It was only then staff got involved. Also the AD needs to be on the wall in pool area. It was quite stressful for our family as their was young kids in our family group. I hope management take this on board.
Good hotel but pool emergency highlighted lack of safety protocols
We are just home from a holiday to IPV Palace Fuengirola. The hotel itself is beautiful, large rooms, very clean and food is good. Staff and service is slow and it is a bit of a walk into the main area.
The biggest issue in my opinion is that the lifeguard and security at the pool spend most of their time watching and timing sunbeds and removing peoples belongings and towels than actually watching the pool.
We witnessed a serious medical emergency at the pool and the response from the lifeguard and staff was not what you would expect from trained professionals.
Lifeguards had to be called from the beach to assist. Security did not close the pool and clear the area and it was a very traumatic experience especially for the children in our group. Luckily due the the quick thinking and actions of guests around the pool a tragedy was avoided.
Experience
Stayed for one week, lovely hotel spacious room and spotless clean, a bit of a walk to main area, however after witnessing a very traumatic emergency at the pool I feel staff did not intervene as quickly as should,, some of the quests around pool area acted quickly, thankfully for some guests that helped out until medics arrived the outcome would of been horrendous,
Hotel Management near fatal failures
Normally a great hotel 3rd time back and normally very good. However on this occasion we experienced a near fats incident where guests dealt with it all and staff were not where to be seen or act up on any protocols or emergency procedures which you would have expected for this hotel to have in place. Management did not take control at any time and refuse to admit and responsibility or accountability to this near fatal incident. Management were very good at dismissing any factual information given to them by guest who actually dealt with incident. Some guest wrote to the Malaga tourism board and made a formal complaint to local authorities.
Near fatal incident
We have stayed at this hotel several times previously, the breakfast, rooms, hotel location and facilities are all very good.
However during our stay there was a major incident in the pool where without the quick thinking of guests could have been a fatality. The guests dived into the pool and rescued a gentleman, the guests performed CPR, the lifeguard was slow to respond, leaving two guests giving CPR, I asked bar staff to call emergency services, there was no defibrillator near the pool, I asked staff to get this, myself and another guest opened and directed the emergency services, by the time they arrived the management and other staff had arrived.
Fortunately for the fast action of guests a fatality was avoided.
Unfortunately the management and staff were slow to react, we tried to speak with management to explain our concerns but they were uninterested. At no time did any of the management team speak to guests around the pool who had witnessed the incident or those who were in shock having been involved in CPR.
If you do stay at this hotel ensure you supervise your children and stay within your depth is a weak or non swimmer at all times in the pool area, as unfortunately the staff had not learnt from the incident as the following day the lifeguard and staff that cover the lifeguards breaks were eating and watching something on their phone behind the desk, the lifeguards are also expected to police the subbed and hand out towels whilst watching the pool.
The emergency procedures need to be addressed and staff trained. I speak as an experienced swimming teacher, lifeguard and first aider.
