Ikos Andalusia - a great family holiday with a few disappointments especially if you love the beach

Overall we’ve had a really lovely stay at Ikos Andalusia. The service and restaurants have been excellent and there’s a lot that Ikos does incredibly well, particularly for families.

We stayed in a one-bedroom family suite with a garden view in Block 2. The room was really spacious, with loads of storage and plenty of space for a family of four. The location worked brilliantly for us too — close to the kids’ club, pools and buffet breakfast, but far enough away from the main evening entertainment that it was still quiet.

There are plenty of pools and we never struggled to find a sunbed. Poolside service was excellent, with drinks easily ordered via the QR codes as well as staff regularly coming around to take orders.

Having access to the WhatsApp concierge service was really handy, particularly when we had an issue with delayed luggage. The team were incredibly helpful in assisting us with this and took some of the stress out of the situation.

The staff have been one of the biggest highlights. There were some real standouts, including a lovely red-haired lady at the family pool (I think her name was Maria) and Alejandro at Provence. We asked Alejandro about a particular Rioja and he went out of his way to find it for us from another restaurant. He was also brilliant with our children, teaching them a few Spanish words, which was such a lovely personal touch.

The restaurants have been amazing and the food and service throughout have been of a really high standard. The kids’ club has also been fantastic. The staff were really engaging and our children genuinely loved going, which makes such a difference on a family holiday. We also used the supper club service twice which meant the grown ups could enjoy a child-free evening meal.

We also made use of the MINI for a day out, which was a brilliant inclusion. Having a packed lunch and towels provided for the day was a great touch and made everything incredibly easy.

The main disappointment for us was the beach. Unfortunately, there were quite a lot of stones, rocks and other bits mixed in with the sand, and it just didn’t live up to the standard of the rest of the resort. If you’re mainly a pool person, this probably won’t bother you, but if having a good beach is important to your holiday, it’s worth knowing. With small children who just wanted to dig and build sandcastles, we found the beach particularly disappointing. We actually ended up spending a day at Playa del Cristo instead, which had the soft, sandy beach we’d been hoping for.

The entertainment was probably the other area that could be improved. There seemed to be a gap between the children’s entertainment and the later adult entertainment where not much was happening. A few more activities or games around the pools during the day would also have been nice.

The Monday White Party was particularly disappointing. Having experienced the White Party at Sani, where it felt like a real event with DJs, live music and a great atmosphere, we were expecting something similar. At Ikos Andalusia there didn’t seem to be a suitable space for it and it lacked atmosphere, so it ended up feeling quite underwhelming and standing around a busy bar.

The resort itself also felt smaller than we had expected. Compared with Sani, there isn’t quite the same feeling of having a huge estate to explore or as much variety outside the hotel itself. That isn’t necessarily a negative - some families may actually prefer everything being more compact but it was noticeable to us.

Overall, though, we’ve had a great holiday. The quality of the restaurants, fantastic service, kids’ club and all the little touches that make travelling with children easier have really impressed us. The beach and entertainment prevent Ikos Andalusia from being perfect for us and us coming back.

We would most likely choose a different Ikos resort next time, ideally one with a better beach which isn't separated by a public walkway between the hotel.

A disappointing stay

I wanted to share our honest unfiltered review. We are on day 8 of a 10 day stay - this was our honeymoon trip with our two year old daughter and I’m disappointed to say it has not met our expectations at all.

We have done a few luxury all inclusives in turkey in recent years - and we can now honestly say these hotels outclass Ikos in every area.

Upon arrival - we did not get a full check in experience. They advised us to go for lunch and said they would finish the run through of all information after this. Despite requesting this, it never happened.

The facilities: The pools (particularly the kids pool) is very disappointing. There is very little equipment for children and it is tired and worn. The theatre is extremely small and also very tired looking. The room itself is fine - although we have a garden suite and the grass is patchy and not maintained at all. The restaurants are fine - but not as luxury as ones we have experienced elsewhere.

Some of the sun beds have mould on and the towels are threadbare.

The service: We have spent full days by the pool and have had to chase and flag down staff to order drinks. The service is very hit and miss. We have also had to repeatedly ask for drinks that have never arrived. When picking up towels from the towel station - the staff do not give you eye contact and don’t speak with you at all.

One evening we went to the main bar area and were told to sit down and they would take our drinks order. We sat there for 20 minutes while other tables who arrived after us were served before giving up and leaving. I brought this to the attention of the staff at the bar as we were walking out and the lady just walked off without apologising.

At the breakfast buffet we asked for orange juice and were told it’s at the buffet so to go and get it there.

We paid over 8k for this break and cannot understand how Ikos justify those prices. It appears they do not re invest the money well into the facilities and the service is definitely not the standard we expect.

Great hotel

My family love IKOS hotels. We visited 5 of them and complete experience is really amazing. Andalusia is the best of all when we talk about room size, quality of sleep, quality of food, entertainment. This was our second visit. We have a feeling that every employee loves his job. Special thanks to Anita. Beautiful, professional and kind. the only thing which we didnt like is the beach. Its just not Halkidiki (Greece) level. I hope we will come again.

Unforgettable Experience - the perfect Spanish Summer escape!

We’ve just got back from Ikos Andalusia, and honestly it’s been incredible from start to finish. It was our third Ikos visit and has to be the best yet, after a slightly bumpy experience at Odisia that didn’t feel up to the Ikos standard and left us slightly let down.

Thankfully the Andalusia team have absolutely knocked it out of the park with fantastic service and restored our faith in the Ikos experience — everything is just easy and effortless, with a focus on the finer details.

Special shout out to Vicky in Anaya, who genuinely makes you feel like family, keeping our glasses topped up, offering food recommendations, and making sure every meal felt perfect. She does all this whilst being truly authentic and genuinely passionate about the experiences she and the team provide — it was so good we opted to eat late just to join for another service. Thank you, Vicky!

All the restaurants provide something different, whether it’s Spanish dancers, sea views, or laid-back beach house vibes. Shout out to George at the Beach House and Darka at the Chiringuito (make sure you don’t miss this place and its croquettes 🤤).

Definitely make sure you get booked onto the wine tasting with Alicia, who provides an excellent selection of thoughtfully chosen wines paired with cheese and chocolates, while sharing great insight into each wine in a relaxed environment. She’ll even match your meals in the restaurants with the perfect wine to complement them.

Thank you once again for a brilliant experience, and for making our stay truly unforgettable!

A Disappointing 5th Visit: Amazing Food and Wonderful Staff, but a Concerning Lack of Transparency from Management

This was our fifth stay at Ikos Andalucia (and our seventh in the Ikos/Sani group). The food here is still absolutely amazing, and the cleaning and restaurant staff remain as wonderful as ever. However, the management and overall guest experience have sadly declined, and we ultimately left feeling undervalued and frustrated by a lack of straightforward communication.

Management & Lack of Transparency

We spent much of this holiday feeling like an inconvenience to the management team. While we were frequently assured that they were for our needs, their actions simply did not align with their words.

Most notably, we were told that securing reservations at Seasons, as well as accommodating room upgrades, was simply impossible. However, it became apparent during our stay that other groups were actively receiving these exact bookings and upgrades. We understand that availability can be tight, but we would have much preferred straightforward honesty over being given a different narrative. It is frustrating to feel misled.

Misleading Amenities

We booked this trip expecting our son, Theo, to use the watersports daily, as they are explicitly advertised on the website and app. While we acknowledge that availability is "subject to local regulations," if management knows they are unavailable, they should remove the advertisement rather than leaving it up to attract bookings. When we asked beach staff why the activities were still on the app, we received a rude "I don't make the app." This lack of transparency unfairly forces frontline staff to defend decisions they cannot control. Similarly, our room was marketed as a full sea view but was actually a side-sea/pool view—an issue we specifically flagged prior to arrival to avoid repeating a past experience.

Declining Standards & Safety Concerns

More alarmingly, we had serious concerns regarding pool safety. The lifeguards were frequently on their phones and assigned dual duties, such as collecting empty glasses, resulting in minimal active pool supervision. This poses a serious danger, particularly in a family resort where small children are present.

Other aesthetic and operational standards have also slipped. Simple things, like the cutlery in Anaya, are becoming very dated and scruffy. The wine selection has become noticeably more limited and no longer feels premium, and basic amenities, like the poolside ordering QR codes, are faded and broken. These details all add to a sense that the resort is just not keeping up with its past standards.

We are fairly relaxed guests and can easily overlook a few dated amenities or minor operational hiccups. What pushed us over the edge, however, was the repeated lack of candor. It is disheartening to be given one narrative by management, only to discover through unprompted, casual conversations with fellow guests that the opposite is true. We took time out of our holiday to meet with management on our second-to-last day—a stressful distraction we didn't want. While they were incredibly polite, the responses felt like well-rehearsed platitudes rather than genuine accountability. I made it clear in that meeting that this lack of honesty was our biggest grievance, yet the final resolution left much to be desired. It is a real shame to leave a resort we have loved for so long feeling this way, and this experience has certainly made us question if the brand still retains the integrity that earned our loyalty in the first place.
