Not as good as previous visits

Fourth visit here and will not be back. Room sub standard. Toilet push button broken and rust around bath plug. Not particulaly clean. Some hotel staff not friendly and were not welcoming. Very limited menu if you are not a meat eater. Fish either over cooked or raw. Watery orange juice. Basic menu. Lived on fruit for a week

A nice hotel let down by poor attitude.

The positive: The ALAY is a lovely hotel and the location is absolutely superb. The pool was clean and loungers area too. Food + drink where very reasonable for a hotel pricing and the food itself was delicious. The negative: The staff at the reception are amongst the rudest most unpleasant staff I have ever come across. We arrived on a late flight and when we checked in where met with someone who looked as though he couldn’t have wanted to be there any less. He explained where our room was and when I asked him to repeat as I was just exhausted and didn’t quite hear I got a snarky “as I have literally just said to you” The following morning we were woken up to the sound of a building site right outside of our room with power tools and machinery running at 7am. I went to the front desk to ask if it was possible to have a room change as we didn’t not pay this money to be woken up to a building site on holiday. The answer was a swift “no, you can pay for a room upgrade”???? Not even an apology or any form of explanation or even notice our room was facing a building site just the smartarse answer and when I explained AGAIN the volume is too loud in the mornings got a “so what” answer. We genuinely contemplated booking another hotel and leaving at this point. On the 3rd day we asked if it was possible to have a new set of towels sent to our room as we had used our towels and wanted fresh ones to use by the pool. “Jesus” the guy at the counter was the most arrogant unhelpful person I’ve ever come across and replied to this request with “as I explained to you at check in , the white towels are for rooms and blue towels cost €10 per person to rent”. We told him he did NOT check us in and asked what is he talking about because none of this was explained to us and got a “well this is how it is” with the hands up movement of someone who just didn’t care then said “do you want it or not” we said no thank you but we would like fresh towels as requested for the room and he said “I will do this ON THIS ONE OCCASION BUT THIS IS NOT HOW IT WORKS”, the towels never even arrived to our room. Honestly for an adults only 4* hotel I expected much better service from the front of house staff. Pure arrogant rudeness and based on them alone I would not return to hotel ALAY.

Disappointing

Room - positives: spacious, clean and the beds are really comfy. Negatives (not majors): next door had x3 mirrors, we only had the bathroom mirror which was a bit of a pain for us to get ready on an evening. Also, flooring was all worn and chipped. Pool - tried 3 times throughout the 1st day for sun loungers, no joy. There was ample space but nowhere near enough loungers for amount of guests. Asked reception if they had spares and was told no, its tough go to beach. 2nd day all beds were reserved by 9am, asked reception what time we were able to put towels down as all beds were gone again. Staff became irrate and accused us of wanting to be like everyone else, then told us pool opened at 10am (it is actually 9am). 3rd day got up early and found a Q at both doors. Really spoils the holiday when you either have to get up early to Q for loungers or pay to go elsewhere. Pool water was fairly scummy when we did manage to get in. Additionally, there are no stairs to use other than emergency exits, so trying to go even 1 level could take 10mins on a morning waiting for the lift. Staff - some reception staff were rude and dismissive. We were given false information at times and did feel this was intentional and possibly to favour/ prioritise other nationalities access to facilities. We were advised 3 times we were unable to enquire about keeping room on until 10am of check out day, I actually turned up at 9am to be told no and only when I asked about showers was informed I had to book, no spaces remaining now. I feel this could have been communicated earlier and we could have booked shower slots and then spent the last day relaxing. Overall, hotel is centrally located and reception area does give 4 star but our room certainly required an update so personally feel its more 3 star. Bar staff were friendly and drinks/food reasonably priced but the sunbed wars and the attitude of some staff really made the holiday quite stressful and not the relaxing experience I had hoped for. If you're happy to Q for pool or pay for loungers on the beach, happy days. If you have late flight home, book shower room well in advance (if you can). Hotel Alay was in perfect location however, if I was ever to return to this resort I would most likely book a different hotel.

Towel gate and disguising attitude from staff

This hotel apart from being in a good location has nothing to offer, a review of the star rating is needed asap and an investment of more sun loungers and a fair towel gate policing, 3 days before 9am no loungers were available and we observed a bed empty for over 3 hours very unfair, attitude of staff were horrific told to go to the Beach instead of providing extra facilities and it made the holiday hard work trying to obtain information of check out day and if a room or shower facilities would be available, because they had not informed us a shower room would need to be booked we had to check out and sit around for 4 hours rather than enjoy the facilities we had paid for Rooms are basic which is fine, only attempted breakfast once as it was overcrowded and in my opinion not enough facilities or space for the amount of guests.the attitude of staff definitely needs addressing therefore I will not return or recommend - luckily the company I was with made up for the shambles of a hotel.

Our holiday was nice plenty to see and do

This hotel is lovely staff are friendly rooms are nice bed is so comfortable the hotel is clean and situated in a lovely spot right near everything .the shower and bath in my opinion could do with an upgrade as you have to take a big step in it needs a bath mat as it's very slippery and some kind of mat on the floor it has a shower door but doesn't give you much room to get in although the shower is excellent..the only downfall was the food for a 4 star hotel there was lots of selections but the food was repetitive especially breakfast and if your a late riser by the time you got to eat it was a tad cold .dinner was ok alot of fish on the menu but that's ok if you like fish plus chips for breakfast lol .like I said for a 4 star hotel the food did let it down so big improvement needed there .the pools are nice not big but to get a sunbed you need to be up at a decent time to get one or you have no chance .would I stay again yesterday I probably would .
