Just returned from a very enjoyable stay in what can be best described as a small traditional 4star hotel. Rooms a little dated but in good clean condition with ensuite facilities [shower over bath]. Food good & bar prices best described as 'sensible' No complaints & will probably visit again. Worth noting that tea making facilities are not provided in the room. Also English breakfast tea is not available in the dining room or bars. Many flavoured exotic blends are available though. Noise levels on the whole were ok but World cup football was taking place & being shown on large screen Tv. Tv in the room pretty poor with only 3 pixelating UK channels to choose from. ok if you can manage with Spanish Freeview! Extra payment upfront for a sake in the room. Pool towels at a hefty refundable deposit of 20 euros each. worth noting the hotel position on a steep hill. A courtesy bus runs up & down to the beach & back several times a day but each trip has to be pre booked both ways on the day.
Arrived early hours of Monday morning, all was well. We were there to celebrate my half century with my folks and a few others that were arriving (unknown to me) Unknown to us that 4 coach loads of 12 to 15 years old teenagers were about to descent on the hotel on the monday afternoon! I'll bet i'm not the only one writing about this!
Absolute chaos started! Pool chaos, restaurant chaos, noise levels chaos.
This was not sold as a 'group of teens hotel' it was deemed a relaxing 4star spa hotel, panoramic roof terrace (closed so no escape) The hotel told us, and everyone else 'its not adults only' multiple websites say it is, but strangely they started getting 'updated' after the complaints started.
Every adult couple were at reception complaining about the chaos, must have been at least half of rooms used by the group.
I generally don't have an issue with this, but wouldn't choose a hotel that does this type of thing, we were expecting the chilled relaxing experience as described.
On the lighter side, the hotel was generally nice, not quite sure 4 star level.
Staff were lovely, really tried to look after you, even in the chaos. They were even cracking up at the chaos, they said its the first time they had a group like this.
Food , we only had breakfast, plenty of choice, was fairly good.
Location, be aware, it really is at top of steep hill, but taxis are easy and a courtesy bus available.
Rooms, was ok, needed a wee refresh, but bed was comfortable.
I'm sorry we can't write a more positive review, but really was not the relaxing break we expected, perhaps, in future, if you a taking bookings like that, the holiday companies should be informed in advance and allow the option to change hotel.
This is not even close to being a 4 star hotel. It is 2 star at best.
The pool was filthy and breakfast was questionable.
The hotel is tired, old and the seating inside and out of the hotel is filthy.
Bedrooms were spotless and the staff were all lovely.
Within 30 mins of our arrival about 100+ very excited schoolchildren arrived. They naturally all wanted to use the pool so that became a no go area for the adults who were already there. The children were impeccably behaved but obviously noisy because they were excited.
We booked the hotel (2 couples) with Booking.com who advertised it as adults only.
We went to join the queue of other guests at reception all asking why children were in the adults only hotel. Reception told us it was an 'Adult friendly' hotel ??
Easyjet were advertising the same. Within 18 hours both tour operators had removed the 'Adults only' comment.
The location of the hotel is not great but an 8 seater van is provided free of charge to take you to and from the front in Albir. A nice touch.
Would not go to this hotel again but this is through no fault of the staff who were brilliant. It's just a tired, not overy clean hotel.
We booked this hotel for a 3 day relaxing break on the assurance on Booking.com was adults only. ITS NOT!! Within an hour of our arrival we were invaded by 4 coach loads of school children running amock, taking over the pool and the sound of screaming 12 yrs olds reverberating around the hotel. The hotels reaction was a shrug of the shoulders and that Booking.com shouldn't have stated it being adults only....it should be 'recommended for adults'...Still incorrect. We are NOT the only ones complaining! Because of this I would not entertain this hotel again.
We had a lovely time at the Sun Palace. I saw other reviews complaining about it not being a 4* hotel, but how could you expect this for the price? The hotel is spacious, air con works brilliantly (not too hot, not too cold), staff are helpful, breakfast buffet was plentiful. The hotel is approx 10 min downhill to the main shops/restaurants. It's a bit of a slog coming back up in the heat of the day, but it's a lovely peaceful setting and we never had a big issue with it. We took a coach transfer from Alicante airport via Benidorm. Albir is a lovely, low-rise seaside town compared to the high-rise intensity of Benidorm. You can walk to Altea in about 30 mins - pretty whitewashed old town on a hill. The Sun Palace was a lovely base for a short break. I'd go back.
