We stayed at Meliá Benidorm as a family from 4 to 10 August, and I wanted to share our experience because before booking I had read some negative reviews about the food, cleanliness, reception and staff. After staying there myself, I can honestly say that we were very happy with our stay.
The rooms may need a little cosmetic updating, but I personally did not notice anything seriously wrong or unpleasant. Most importantly, everything was clean. For me, one of the clearest signs of cleanliness was the white towel provided for the bathroom floor. After a shower, I used it to wipe up the water from the floor, and the towel still remained white. For me, that says a lot about how clean the floors were. Our bed linen was also changed during our stay, and we never had to ask for it.
The food was varied and tasty. Of course, food is always a matter of personal taste and habits, but I personally have nothing negative to say about it.
The staff deserve special praise. Everyone we met was friendly, helpful and professional. The restaurant team worked incredibly well together, the manager was excellent, and I especially remember the lovely hostess at the restaurant entrance. Unfortunately, I do not know her name, but she was such a warm and positive person and always made us feel welcome. The staff were also wonderful with children and always ready to help.
I have seen reviews complaining about the staff, but based on what I witnessed during our stay, I would also encourage guests to think about how they themselves speak to and treat hotel employees. During our six nights there were a few situations involving other guests that honestly made me feel embarrassed for the staff. They work very hard to make everyone’s holiday pleasant, and they deserve the same respect in return.
The pool area is lovely, the location is very good, and the children’s entertainment team was fantastic. The girls working with the children really gave their all.
My only small criticism would be the number of umbrellas around the pool and the usual race for sunbeds. Some guests leave towels on loungers and disappear for long periods, which makes it difficult for others to find a place. As a result, some guests — including children — may end up sitting in direct sunlight.
Many hotels use a simple 30-minute rule: if a guest does not return to their sunbed within 30 minutes, the towel is removed and the lounger becomes available for someone else. Perhaps Meliá Benidorm could also consider a similar system. There are many families with children staying at the hotel, and having to remain in direct sunlight because shaded places and available loungers are limited is not ideal.
Overall, we left Meliá Benidorm with a very positive impression and no real negative feelings about our stay. Spain is beautiful and there are many other places I would still love to visit, but I would absolutely consider returning to Benidorm — and to Meliá Benidorm in particular.
Beautiful sister hotel to the pelicanos , sits back and near bars and shops and within walking distance to the mundamor . Lovely this hotel . Beautiful inside and out
This hotel offers everything you need in a holiday ,it’s a really good all rounder. The room we had was spacious and clean with spectacular views of Benidorm. The food was delicious and offered a great choice . We had booked the level package which allowed us to have a great selection of drinks and a few snacks throughout the day. The pools were lovely but did get a little bit crowded but that was fine. The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly, which we loved . It really was a pleasure to stay in this hotel , you can see the staff working very hard to make the guests really feel comfortable. There’s a lot of children’s and Adult entertainment too which we could see and hear while we were sun bathing. I would highly recommend this hotel, which attracts a lot of Spanish people. Such a lovely, clean atmosphere and we can’t wait to return in the future.
Hotel has obviously seen better day, tired and grubby rooms.
My main gripe is the FULL BOARD. Apart from breakfast, where you can have tea, coffee juice and water, at lunch and dinner they SWITCH OFF the water machines and force you to PAY for bottles of water. I’ve never known a hotel to do this. When I took my own water in, I was told it was not allowed very loudly by the rude staff! Oh and good luck finding a clean plate, had to go through 4 or 5 plates until you get one that hasn’t got food residue on it.
SHOCKING HYGIENE STANDARDS – AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!!!
Our experience at the Meliá Benidorm was extremely disappointing.
The hygiene standards in the dining area were absolutely appalling. Plates and tables were not cleaned to an acceptable standard, which made eating there very unpleasant. Unfortunately, the cleanliness issues extended to our room, where we found what appeared to be pubic hairs in the bedding. This was completely unacceptable and raised serious concerns about whether the bed linen had been properly changed and cleaned.
The lifts were also very concerning, with a noticeable rocking motion that made them feel unstable and potentially unsafe. They were extremely slow to reach each floor, resulting in long waiting times and further frustration.
The food choices were also very limited and did not meet the standard we expected from a Meliá hotel.
What made the dining experience even more frustrating was the constant focus on charging guests for drinks. At mealtimes, staff regularly approached customers to charge for water and other beverages, explaining that these were not included with either half-board or full-board arrangements. It felt as though more attention was being given to selling drinks than providing good service and maintaining cleanliness.
We also found a number of the staff to be unfriendly and unhelpful, which only added to the disappointment.
We expected considerably better standards from the Meliá brand, particularly when it came to basic hygiene, cleanliness and customer service. Based on our experience, I could not recommend this hotel.
