This charming property, surrounded by nature and Madeira tradition, is located in Santo da Serra, in Madeira Island. The house dates from 1920, and is classified as part of the regional heritage. The façade, with decorative elements from the Art Nouveau period, the frieze in floral tiles, windows with white wooden slats, and its fish-scale roof are unique features. In the vicinity, guests can enjoy horseback riding, golf, bicycle riding or walks along the traditional canals in the beautiful Laurissilva forest.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Nice place and mostly friendly personal. However, the hotel is a bit isolated. The cleaning of the rooms was not perfect. Breakfast was good, but dinner varied in quality. There is no bar and there is no selling of snacks. The gym needs updating. However, the pool and sauna were appreciated. Located next to the hotel is a farm with hens and a couple of roosters that woke us up every morning.
Highly recommend this delightful calm and peaceful hotel with good facilities, an excellent helpful staff team, set in beautiful countryside away from the main tourist areas, but close to a small area with good places to eat, great coffee and local mini supermarkets to collect supplies for picnics. An ideal location for anyone seeking to unwind and breathe in beautiful aromas of the fabulous trees and beautiful vegetation. We had a wonderful 6 days at the Portobay Serra. This was our first visit to Madeira, which is a really wonderful place with remarkable range of environments from the crashing waves of the Atlantic to the majesty of volcanic formed mountains and extradordinary range of vegetations from sub tropical to alpine. We loved it!
Nice small and relax hotel with good breakfast and dinner. We highly recommend the hotel. The hotel is situated at a very high altitude and is a great starting point for hikes.
small, copy hotel. excellen location for golf. decent, recommendable restaurant, comfortable beds, nicely renovated bathroom. Most of the staff aren’t exactly the friendliest. There are significant fluctuations in the water temperature in the shower.
We were allocated this hotel by EasyJet following cancellation of our flight home. From arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff member and were able to check in immediately. The room was immaculate and clean, with lots of personal touches which were much appreciated. We used the indoor pool - Sauna was out of action at the time. England were playing in the world cup that evening, and staff put it on the TV in the lounge especially for us, furnishing us with beer and snacks. After a very stressful day it was very much appreciated. The following day after a full-choice and relaxed breakfast, our day was once again deeply stressful, having to try and sort further accommodation with EasyJet to cover our flight delay. The hotel went above and beyond to make a very stressful morning less so with there empathy, offer of refreshment and continued use of facilities should we need them. Special thanks to the regional manager of the Portobay for personally assisting us with getting to our onward destination. What a hero he was! Sadly didn't get to go on the golf course as we weren't there long enough, but passing it in the car it looked very nice.
