Would definitely stay here again
Lovely hotel, very modern, comfy bed, gorgeous bathroom & all very clean. Would definitely stay here again. Around half hour walk to Old Town Funchal.

Avoid this hotel
This hotel should be avoided it is certainly not 4 star by any scale. The lobby and some common areas have been ugraded, however the rooms remain bascally old requiring attention Negatives: Poor cleaning Worn towels Dirty floors Noisy 6 days a week due to adjacent construction Constant sewer smell in bathrooms Tainted water from brown to normal greenish Breakfast buffet is simple with powdered eggs and processed meat and cheese, all basically cold food options ordering ala carte was difficult and disappointing Limited coffee, tea an juice mix options Bar served boxed wine, c'mon in Portugal Plusses: Decent location on monumental ave in lido 5 min from ocean promenade Close to many restaurants and shops for drinking water and edible meals
Stay away
Stayed at Vila Baleira Funchal with fairly standard expectations for a 4-star hotel, but unfortunately the experience did not meet them.
The main issue was the noise level in the room. Directly opposite the hotel there appears to be a night venue / adult establishment, which generates constant noise, music, and disturbances late into the night. As a result, sleep quality was extremely poor. This is something that, in my opinion, guests should be clearly informed about in advance.
Aside from that, the room itself was quite basic and lacked the level of comfort you would normally expect at this price point. Cleanliness was acceptable, but overall the property feels more like an average hotel rather than a 4-star experience.
When raising the issue with the staff, no effective solution was offered, which was disappointing.
Overall, not a terrible stay, but definitely not aligned with the rating or price. I would likely choose a different property next time.

Fabulous very central location fantastic staff
This hotel is fantastic It’s very central location with regards access to restaurants to the sea and has fantastic amenities The staff are great very knowledgeable friendly and helpful nothing was too much for them The rooms are spacious and comfortable and clean they are cleaned every day There’s a lovely pool and a tiny gym as well as a spa

Absolutely not a 4-star hotel – terrible condition and unbearable noise
I am extremely disappointed with my stay at this hotel. It is rated as a 4-star property, but it does not come close to meeting that standard. The rooms were in substandard condition and incredibly outdated. To make matters worse, there is a construction site right next to the hotel, which made it virtually impossible to spend any time in the room during the day due to the deafening noise. The soundproofing is non-existent; you can hear every single sound from the hallways and the other floors. Because of the constant noise, getting any sleep was nearly impossible. I strongly advise against staying here if you expect a 4-star experience, comfort, or a good night's rest. Avoid this place.
