This hotel is in a truly privileged position, with the unique charm and welcoming ambience associated with an historic old manor house surrounded by tastefully designed gardens. The town centre is a 10-minute walk away, offering a wide range of shopping and entertainment facilities. Restaurants, bars and nightclubs are located just 200 m from the hotel and there are public transportation links outside the hotel. The beach is around 1 km away. This is the perfect hotel to enjoy a relaxing holiday in the breathtaking exotic island of Madeira.
We had a wonderful stay at Pestana Quinta Perestrello for ten days. From the warm welcome we had from Laura on reception to our final goodbyes, we loved every minute of this trip. Pros: the boutique hotel is small and friendly. There is a games room and separate library with plenty of books to swap on the ground floor. There is complimentary tea/coffee/soft drinks and snack available 24/7 on the ground floor reception. The rooms are spacious and spotless and having one that opened out onto the pool was an added bonus. There were always a choice of sun beds and umbrella at all points of the day. Breakfast was across a connected walkway in the sister hotel and had a good selection with friendly staff. Maria and Claudia provided a warm welcome and amazing coffee every morning. They even sourced soya milk for me which was much appreciated. There was a good selection of cereals, fresh fruits, cheeses, meat and breads and you could order hot food that was freshly prepared. There was a further choice of two larger pools and a spacious gym in the two adjacent hotels. These were only a three minute walk across a walkway and a lift. The hotel itself is only a 15 minute stroll into the old town or a five minute bus ride. There are plenty of bus routes available to exploring Funchal and the wider area.
Cons: the road could be a little noisy of at the bottom pool. I would imagine that the stairs down to the lower rooms would be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues, although there are plenty of lifts for accessing all other parts of the hotel.
Lovely little hotel not far from anything, 20 minute walk in either direction to everything you need, 2 minute walk to bars and restaurants. Bus stop outside if you don't want to walk. Lovely, comfortable rooms. Hotel has some character and the gardens are kept beautifully. The breakfast is great, served by a lovely lady called Maria. Swimming pool is small but in a lovely setting. I'd recommend a room by the pool, very convenient. There is some traffic noise but we didn't notice it after a few minutes. Overall a great little hotel. I'd definitely return or recommend to friends. The reception staff are very helpful too, nothing too much trouble.
The hotel felt small and private yet had the benefit of the facilities of the adjoining Pestana hotels. Breakfast was in the Miramar restaurant next door, but from the very small number of guests each time we ate, it looked as though residents of the Miramar (a much bigger hotel) must have had breakfast elsewhere. The Perestrello pool is small and shallow so for swimming the Miramar pool is better and wasn't busy when we stayed. The rooms were comfortable and service was good. There was little external noise at night. Location is reasonable - it is a longish and boring (after the first time) walk to the centre but the bus runs regularly from just over the road. There are a few reasonable restaurants nearby (and the Miramar was also reasonable) so we only ate in the centre once in the evening. We would happily stay here again.
Really good hotel! The staff were very nice, the animation team was fun, and the food was very good too. Everything was great and made the stay even better. I would definitely come back!
The hotel is what you would expect from a 4 star hotel, it was characterful and the staff were very friendly. We were given a free upgrade to a suite overlooking the harbour as me and my wife were celebrating a special birthday. The hotel is a good 20 minutes walk to the centre of Funchal down a steep hill and there is plenty to see and do once you are there. We were very lucky that the classic car show was on for 3 days during our stay. Overall we had a fantastic stay P and J
