Hotel is beautifully situated in fine grounds, with views of Funchal and the sea from every room. Comfortable room with a small terrace; bathroom rather old-fashioned with a weak shower. Lots of antique furniture and beautiful flower arrangements; however, the public rooms feel a bit barn-like and can't be described as cosy. We were unlucky, with a tropical storm hitting the island during our stay: the hotel felt cold and the heating/air con system was being refitted, so wasn't working. However, they did provide us with a plug in heater, which helped. Monte is colder than Funchal, generally. Overall, it was a nice stay, though, and If it was possible to give a 4.5 rating, I would do so!
The hotel and gardens are beautiful. I went alone for 3 months and was a little nervous at first but the staff are so friendly and helpful and treated me like family when I was unwell they came to check on me and bought me soup and lemon and honey tea. The hotel is beautifully furnished, clean and full of antiques and lovely flower arrangements created by Dora and my room had a balcony with a fabulous view looking down to Funchal. The food was superb with silver service in the restaurant. The 2 waiters Alberto and Eduardo were so attentive professional and friendly with everyone. I have never stayed anywhere like this before and I highly recommend it.
Made in reservation in july by mistake instead of april. Still decided to spend a night by rebooking. Tried to change dates and asked for a refund. Both were denied. Had made the same mistake for other hotels, which paid back in full within 24h. Hotel staff was terribly unfriendly and unsupportive, kept referring to unwilling management.
In addition the elevator is terribly loud and can be heard throughout the entire hotel
I liked the location of the hotel up the mountain and close to the tropical gardens, but it won't suit everybody. Nearby dining opportunities outside of the hotel are limited. Buses to Funchal are fairly frequent or there is the cable car if you can afford it. The hotel has an old world charm and is surrounded by lovely gardens. The staff are helpful and were able to arrange days out for me with a local guide. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with views of the sea. My only complaint is the lack of tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms are cleaned every day. The hotel has a large indoor swimming pool, although I found the water too cold for my enjoyment. Overall my stay at Quinta Do Monte was value for money.
I loved this hotel and its old style charm. The room was spacious and we were given a voucher for a welcome drink in the bar. This was a very nice gesture. The ground of the hotel are spectacular and it's right beside the cable car. We used the bus service- number 20 and 21. There was a good choice at breakfast but my only complaint was the coffee that was served. It's not good. The restaurant was open for dinner , contrary to what I was led to believe . I would stay in this hotel again but it was difficult to find on a foggy evening when I arrived of the bus. Google maps came to our rescue. Great staff on reception.
