We absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. It was a lovely traditional building which had plenty of character set in an fanastic location in the old town just minutes away from the cable car, although bit of an uphill walk from the centre which wasn’t a problem for us. Every single member of staff we encountered were really friendly and helpful. Our room was a decent size and we had a balcony with a beautiful view over the pool, gardens and sea (we did book a garden view to ensure we had a balcony based on previous reviews!). Lots of choice at breakfast and we had dinner in the restaurant one evening which was superb, although plenty of other options close by in the old town. Don’t forget to visit the bird cages at the bottom of the garden! I’d definitely recommend and hope to return to this hotel again in the future.

Very decent hotel. A bit dated, but so am I. Excellent breakfast/dinner outside area overlooking the pool. Breakfast was really good, but evening meal for half board guests was a no choice, you get what you are given. Which wasnt very good either. Also be aware, no shorts or sandles to be worn. We ate out 13 out of 14 days. A bit difficult when that is all you have. If I go again it will be bed+breakfast only All that being said, we had a great holiday had staying at the hotel. Excellent location in the old town.

This hotel has a fantastic location but it is not a 4 star hotel. The rooms are very basic, the staff was not friendly, one of our rooms (we were a group of friends) had a big humidity stain on the floor and as a result the floor was not level and made it difficult to open the wardrobe. We made reservations directly through the hotel website and received an email confirmation. Well before we arrived a person was added to the group and so we informed the hotel that there would be an extra person in one of the rooms. We used the same email address of the confirmation email. When we arrived we were surprised to be told that they had no information on the extra person. The person had to pay full price for a room although they were sharing with someone else. When we showed the email we sent informing them, they told us they had not received it and that it was sent to an unknown email address!!! We complained immediately but were told that because it was Sunday, there was nobody present who could take a decision. Although they said they would address it the following day, a month after nothing has been done. Two people on the group landed very early in the morning and went to the hotel just to drop their luggage in the luggage room of the hotel. The staff at reception was extremely unfriendly. Finally we checked before arrival that there was a parking at the hotel. Unfortunately they forgot to tell us that they had very limited space available. By the time the people with the car arrived we were told to look elsewhere; again in a very unfriendly way. There are a lot of hotels in Funchal. Avoid this one.
