Ad hic stay following delayed flight out of Madeira.
Thank you to PortoBay for providing another excellent stay at short notice. We had stayed at the Porto Santa Maria on a previous occasion, and once again service, friendliness and facilities are second to none.

Fantastic hotel and location
A fantastic hotel with a location near the old town and the sea. You could truly relax here, partly because it is an adult hotel with no screaming children. You have three choices for the jacuzzi (on the roof, one inside, and one outside). Very friendly staff who were always willing to help you with anything.

Brilliant 👏
Our first stay at the Porto Bay Santa Maria. Really enjoyed our time here. Excellent location and near to good restaurants and bars. Comfortable bedrooms, spotlessly clean and luxury toiletries provided. The best buffet style breakfast we have experienced with a massive choice of fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereals, breads, pastries and hot and cold foods. The pool and gardens are well maintained with plenty of sunbeds for everyone. The staff are very hardworking, pleasant and cannot do enough to ensure that guests are well looked after. A credit to the hotel. A special mention to Diogo and Martin who are super friendly and helpful 😀 We would definitely recommend and will return.
Great location
We got back yesterday 6/7/26 having spent a lovely 7 nights at this hotel. The check in was quick and smooth. Also the reception staff are very friendly and helpful and will also give advice on buses to catch etc to various locations.We had a side Seaview room with balcony which was very good. The room had plenty of storage and a kitchenette. The hotel provides nice quality shower gel. Shampoo/ conditioner etc. The maids kept the room spotless throughout our stay and linen changed regularly. We stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfast was good with the usual hot, cold food, fruit yogurt, cereal etc. The hotel also has a nice spa pool that we used one morning. The pool area is clean and well maintained with a bar area for drinks and lunchtime snacks. It was never a problem getting sunbeds.The location of the hotel could not be better. The old town with bars and restaurants is just a very short stroll out the gates to the right. The cable car is only 50 meters away and if you intend to go up to Monte Palace and gardens it's only 22 euros return and the gardens entry price is 20 euros each adult. I would also recommend that if you intend to go to Monte Garden then for you to go around 9am as it's much quieter and no queues. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in the old town and vary in price, you can eat out cheaply or as expensive as you can afford. A nice thing in the old town is that it's not rowdy either and a lot of bars and restaurants close around 11pm. If you are looking for a good hotel very close to the old town I can fully recommend this hotel and my husband and I will definitely return in the future

Great Hotel
A great hotel right in the centre of Funchal old town. Close to the cable car, the fish and fruit market and a multitude of restaurants and shops.
