Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
excellent service and accommodation, our fifth or sixth visit so that speaks for itself. Staff lovely. surrounding area very good . the gardens are beautiful and cannot imagine never being able to find a sun bed . a selection of pools to cool off, exercise or relax in. I think including kiddy pools there are six. Highly recommended ,easy transfer from airport.
Highly recommend this hotel. The location is great, in the Lido area, lots of restaurants and bars nearby. The hotel is a really good standard, beautiful grounds, great pool areas, spacious rooms, excellent breakfast. Entertainment on an evening and a great spa . Staff are friendly - definitely recommend.
Porto Mare is a great hotel with great indoor and outdoor spaces. Lots of space around all of the outdoor pools. Cleanliness and comfort were first class and all staff were excellent. Hotel location is fabulous with lots of restaurant, bars and shops nearby. Also access for public transport and taxis is also really good. An easy 30-40 minute walk into Funchal from hotel. Would highly recommend Porto Mare.
My wife and I have stayed in this hotel for the last 5 years. We come to celebrate our wedding anniversary and stay for 2 weeks. We love this hotel, it is not perfect however there are some aspects that we believe elevate it above the others and better than the official 4 stars. First the management, often ignored however they do an excellent job, special mention to Neide, thanks for all your help. Next the housekeeping, they are so friendly and do an excellent job. The waiting staff at breakfast are excellent, I have tremor so not easy to hold dishes, glasses etc. They ensure well looked after. The location of the hotel is excellent, it is situated at the ludo, the views are superb. It is about 40 mins walk to centre if Funchal which we do every few days however bus stop right outside hotel, every 15mins and 2euros. The entertainment is high quality, in particular Elton John and Bee Gees tributes. You really need to see both. Bottom line, we go 4 holidays a year, long haul and Europe and we always look forward to our stay at Porto Mare. We are already booked for next year. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.
Our first stay at Porto Mare. Pool and grounds areas are stunning. Food in Atlantida and Alfama superb. Staff efficient and helpful. Room was good with amazingly comfortable bed. However did not like the kettle and brewing facilities in the cupboard. Bowl of fruit provided but no knife to prepare it. Entertainment in the evenings good but subject to changes in venue without notice.Overall an excellent choice of hotel.
