Just two minutes from Funchal's largest beach, Formosa Beach, lies Pestana Royal, an All-Inclusive only hotel which offers amazing views of the Cabo Girao hillside, and is just 10 minutes from Funchal city centre. The hotel offers transportation to Funchal city, courtesy of the hotels (subject days and time table schedules as per units program, “first come, first served” basis).
During your stay, you can lounge by the two swimming pools that the hotel has to offer as well as a Solarium. The children can enjoy their time at the hotel's kids club or in the playground, whereas there are plenty of activities for the adults to partake in such as Pool, Mini Golf or Tennis. There are four restaurants to spend your evening meal, three being a set menu and one open buffet.
Each room is equipped with a television, safe, free Wi-Fi, a bath and hairdryer. For a small supplement will guarantee a balcony which offers panoramic views of the hotel's surroundings. Seaview rooms are also available at a supplement charge.

My room problem was dan by a nice lady Karina❤️
We absolutely loved our stay here! ❤️ The service was fantastic from start to finish. Every single member of staff, across all the different services, was so friendly, helpful and welcoming. You could really feel that they genuinely cared about the guests.
The food was absolutely lovely, with plenty of choice and everything we tried was delicious. We also had such a great time with the entertainment. The animation team were brilliant — so friendly, fun and full of energy. They really made the atmosphere special and kept everyone entertained.
A special mention to Diana, who is such a lovely lady! ❤️ She was always so warm, friendly and smiling, and she made us feel very welcome. She really stood out and made our holiday even more enjoyable.
Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The staff, the food, the entertainment and the whole atmosphere were amazing. A big thank you to everyone for making our holiday so enjoyable and memorable. We would absolutely love to come back! 🥰❤️ -Mon-
Nice hotel. But. Food average. Water pressure in bathrooms very low. Even at 11 pm. Dodgy old shower and bath workings. I got burnt 🔥 overall this is a 3 star hotel. They only got 5 because of facilities . A very good place but not 5*
We stayed here as a family in August 2026. Our children are older teens so had their own separate room, and ended up being 2 rooms apart from us rather than adjoining, we were on the top (11th) floor, in rooms classed as Deluxe Room with Sea View. There were quite a few differences between the two rooms, ours had the bathroom behind a glass wall, and just a shower, whilst the children's room had a separate bathroom with a door, and a bath with an overhead shower. Our room seemed a bit more modern and spacious, although both rooms were fairly small. The balconies were just big enough for 2 people to sit down. From the 11th floor you are quite high up, but could see the gardens and pool areas as well as the promenade and sea beyond. It was fun to watch the various dolphin watching boats go past the hotel and back a couple of hours later, especially the Santa Maria (which we did go out on during our stay). Beds were quite hard but comfortable enough and the air con worked well.
The hotel is well positioned and many of the tours and excursions will pick you up from here, but if you need to make your own way anywhere there is a bus stop just outside, we used this to go into Funchal for the boat trip. Local trips cost just 2 Euros and 5 cents. We also went up to Monte Palace on the bus (approx 1 hour journey), and this was still the same cost. We did not use the shuttle bus service. We did also walk along the prom in both directions, including a visit to the Forum open-air shopping centre. unfortunately the prom was closed off before you could walk to Camara de Lobos, otherwise we would have walked there as well, but the beachfront walk was still interesting and pleasant.
We enjoyed our time at the hotel, despite being large and with over 300 rooms it did not seem too busy, only really at meal times which felt a bit hectic, but there was still plenty of food available despite the amount of people in the buffet at any one time. There was food and drink available pretty much throughout the day, and plenty of variety. As our children have nut and egg allergies we did struggle to find suitable desserts at times, but ice cream was always available as a fall-back option as well. We did not manage to get booked into the Italian restaurant, but did like the Madeiran buffet night, with an accordion player and drummer dressed in traditional costumes providing entertainment. The beef skewers were particularly nice!
Drinks from the bar were very good with a decent range of cocktails included as well as wine, sangria, soft drinks and warms drinks available. Room service would often replace any tea bags and milk used in your room from the previous day. Towels were always replaced if you left them to be done.
The hotel is very clean and tidy, we liked the multi-level layout, and there were just enough seats in the outside bar area and sunbeds around the pools. We found the hotel to be quite quiet and relaxed, you could always find your own space in the public areas and noise from the bars area usually finished by 11pm.
We very much enjoyed our time on Madeira and felt the hotel contributed to that enjoyment, and would definitely consider staying again if we return to the island in the future.
