Great Location
Pestana Carlton is located a short walk from the Old Town up the hill. It has beautiful main garden pool and plenty of sun beds - no fighting over towels at 7am, although we noticed the last couple of mornings some beds are being reserved ! Probably English - we are the worst for this, once one starts, it spreads quickly. It’s an awful selfish practice and no need here as there are loads of beds. Great breakfast and good quality options. Our room is large and great bed, I agree with other reviews the bathroom needs an upgrade, it is fine but not 5 star, it’s tired. Housekeeping are very good with fresh towels inc pool towels. Staff are overall very nice & always around to help. We will comeback. This hotel is perched on a cliff, so great views but they have 3 lifts to get you to different levels & ultimately the sea access, it takes a couple of days to work it out 😎

Amazing holiday
Wonderful holiday, really friendly staff, holiday with lots of wonderful memories (especially the ABBA night - we had so much fun!) loved it!!!

Perfect stay
Stunning cliffside views and friendly service. Location was perfect, right between the Old Town and the lido promenade. Stayed in a family room, 1 king sized bed and a single bed. The single bed was separated from the king by a curtain which is great for families. Really good views everywhere in the hotel but our favourite was a more secluded spot up some stairs from the outside of floor 5. 100% recommend!
Relaxing in Madeira
Just spent a week here and we really enjoyed the hotel and the facilities.. loved swimming in the clear and calm sea everyday, 2 excellent outdoor pools and we used the quiet indoor pool to escape the sun. The hotel is big but it doesn’t feel it…lovely and relaxed atmosphere. It’s refreshing not to see the usual scramble for sun-beds, there just appears to be plenty of space everywhere. We were in a Junior Suite (107). Huge room (single and double sofa bed for our 12 and 16 year old) and very quiet and good amenities. Beds are firm but comfortable. We slept well. Large outdoor terrace which allowed sitting in the sun as well as finding shade when preferred. Room was serviced daily and towels always changed on request. The breakfast is excellent: good quality and plenty of choice. We went at various times and it was never busy. We don’t mind walking so I think the hotel is in a great location. As first time visitors to Madeira we expected hills but it really is very hilly, but that is not a reflection on the hotel. Helps you work off all lovely cakes they serve at breakfast… There are plenty of really good quality restaurants in the vicinity. We all agreed that we would return to the island and to this hotel.
