- Eira do Serrado Hotel and Spa

Nestled amidst breathtaking mountain scenery, this hotel offers an idyllic retreat just a short drive from Funchal and within walking distance of Curral das Freiras, a charming village with local restaurants, bars, and shops. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in nature while enjoying convenient access to transportation. The hotel's snug lobby provides a welcoming atmosphere where friendly staff are available to assist guests. Modern and tastefully appointed rooms offer a peaceful sanctuary to relax after exploring the stunning landscapes. The hotel restaurant serves delicious regional and international cuisine in a cozy setting with spectacular views. Guests can also unwind in the games room or enjoy a quiet read in the comfortable lounge.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
If you are looking for peace and quiet, bird song, no tinny music and an amazing view this hotel has them all. It is true sometimes you can hear the gentle hum of tourists but they are mainly in the front of the building and all guests have the back rooms with the best views. Our room number 111was definitely worth the little extra with a large terrace which had the sun all day if it was out. As other guests have commented the breakfasts are adequate but not fancy however the pastries and bread are delicious. We ate in the restaurant twice in the evening and again the food was delicious, there was a lot of choice and attentive and friendly staff. I can recommend the Madeira garlic bread and the scabbard fish and the vegetable selection was very generous. I’m not sure how the hotel keeps going at all the times we ate in the restaurant during breakfast and dinner there were very few people. It made it for a lovely quiet and relaxing experience. Many people come here for walking in the mountains and walking down the mountain to the village was a fabulous feast of flowers however walking back up defeated us but fortunately it was easy to get taxis
Overall best feature: the natural beauty surrounding the hotel, 5 mins walk to the valley observation deck Watch out for: the drive up the hotel is tricky, especially when it's foggy and/or dark. Plenty of parking is available. Rooms: spacious, clean, well-equipped Restaurant&Bar: wonderful, great food for the price, the local beer is fantastic Breakfast: there is room for improvement, but even then, it's only because it's 9.5/10. Wellness&Spa: you need to notify the staff if you'd like to use the spa, and it costs 10eur. This section of the hotel has great views of the valley, but the facility itself is not that special. The hygiene and order of the facility were 10/10. Staff: very helpful, professional, easy to communicate with.
Summary: highly recommended for at least 1 day of stay when you're in Madeira, the experience of waking up to the sunrise and watching the sunset in this hotel is impossible to describe with words
Swimming pool a paddling pool definitely not a full length to swim hotel no entertainment do not exchange currency Internet having to sign in everytime you leave your room it's just a hotel to only stay a night or two. Bad experience all there bothered about is the weddings they have no shuttle operating also rubbish bus service its beyond me how this hotel is called a holiday never again o I reported to my holiday company and all they could do was lie to them couldn't wait to be back home what a nightmare and that's the truth also was told to go to funchal to book trips out. Cafe on site expensive this hotel should take into account not everyone has a car wish I had never booked all it did was upset me and my friend
Tat being sold in the shop… have the cheek to charge €1 per person to use the toilets only for there to be toilet paper all over the floor, hand towels empty and the hand blower out of action… don’t mind a small fee if things are okay but this was daylight robbery… everywhere else in Madeira we were charged €.50c to us facilities.. easy to say avoid but they’ve got it sewn up and will rip you off!
Hotel has Stunning panoramic views with quality traditional food, with good portions, especially the steak and skewers. It is close to trails and a viewpoint, ideal for nature lovers. A calm place, isolated from the hustle and bustle of Funchal. It has nice spa with indoor pool and jacuzzi. There is nothing closer apart from a cafe and mini supermarket next door. The breakfast was included with was adequate as standard full breakfast with hot drinks juices, selection of bread, fruits, cakes and cereals. Hot food like diff types of egg , beans, mushroom , bacon and sausage. No omelettes. Dinner should be prebooked for timings and has Good selctions in veg and non veg with very good portions and good value . Hotel is at a tricky place , driving from Funchal up the mountains. Rooms are spavious taxand very clean and housekeeping had been great and prompt. We loved the place and the staff very friendly. Hotel Looks Needing a make over to very modern look but considering its Location it is perfect to Make you feel Like living in heart of nature.
