Madeira's capital, Funchal, is a beautiful and varied destination, giving you a little bit of everything that Madeira has to offer. With its combination of new hotels and classic old world charm; its varied shops and its elegant architecture, it's the sort of place you can explore for weeks without ever tiring of it. The Dorisol Mimosa Hotel offers a great alternative to the usual hotel accommodation. Instead of hotel rooms, you'll enjoy superb apartments, each with a wonderful array of amenities. In fact, when you stay at the Dorisol Mimosa Hotel you also get access to all the extra amenities provided by its sister hotel, the Dorisol Estrelicia.
Traditional hotel rooms – no matter how wonderful they might be – can feel a little bit samey. That's one of the joys of the Dorisol Mimosa Hotel. Each of its wonderfully appointed studios gives you a real home away from home feeling. With its own kitchenette and en suite bathroom, you'll be able to enjoy all the comforts of hotel standard amenities as well as all the convenience of doing things your way.
Comfort is everything on a holiday to Madeira. And that's another big advantage of the Dorisol Mimosa Hotel. Instead of breakfast at the hotel restaurant, why not dine al fresco? Each apartment features a balcony – and it's a wonderful spot for luxuriating and really making the most of the lazier holiday lifestyle.
With its own impressive facilities (as well as those of the Dorisol Estrelicia) you'll have absolutely everything you'd expect of the very best Funchal resort, including an excellent outdoor pool (and children's pool) – and the seaside Lido with its large saltwater pool is close at hand.
You'll have lots more top notch leisure facilities on hand too – an indoor pool, sauna and Jacuzzi, as well as tennis and games. There's even a regular programme of entertainment for you to enjoy.
Staying at the Dorisol Mimosa Hotel lets you do things your way. Each comfortable apartment is a holiday haven – and a perfect base for exploring Funchal and Madeira. With so many wonderful facilities at your disposal, you'll have no excuse not to relax.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
The Dorisol Mimosa is next door to its sister hotel the Dorisol Estrelicia in Funchal. Offering studio accommodation instead of traditional hotel rooms, it provides a useful alternative for holidaymakers. It shares many of the facilities with the Dorisol Estrelicia and has the same convenience of access to Funchal and the seaside Lido with its large saltwater pool.
The Mimosa is 1 of 3 Dorisol hotels and is the furthest away from where the coach drops you off. As with all of Madeira there is quite an incline to drag your cases up to reach the Mimosa. Apparently they do offer a golf cart shuttle if you're willing to wait a while. The problem I had was the noise. I did email the hotel a week before arrival requesting a quiet room preferably on a high floor, this didnt work! I started with room 508. The hotel is metres away from a busy road, where loud motorbikes and other vehicles can be heard inside the room with all doors shut. There is no soundproofing at all, and you can hear everything in the corridors and adjacent rooms. I asked to move rooms away from the road but they put me in room 402 - right next to the fire exit that all the cleaners use to wheel trolleys in and out. They wedge the fire door open which allows all the road noise into the corridors. I'm sure the reception staff knew this when they moved me - maybe a punishment for asking to move!! My new room key also did not work, this meant dragging luggage back to reception to get the key sorted. I had to use ear plugs every night just to sleep. During the day is also difficult to sleep due to the cleaners and maintenance staff making noise. The Mimosa has reasonable facilities which are functional but tired. The 1st room I had did not have hot water in the sink, there were gaps in the laminate flooring etc. The outdoor pool was freezing - worse than the sea! The indoor pool was nice. The food at breakfast was never hot, even when I was there at the 0730 opening time, it was luke warm at best. If I had to stay here again it would need to be in the Buganvilla. I will never stay in the Mimosa again.
Avoid this hotel if you value sleep or basic customer service.
We were put in room 301, which is directly beside a fire escape stairwell. Housekeeping used this staircase constantly throughout the day, dragging heavy carts on wheels up and down. The noise was relentless and completely unacceptable, starting around 9am and continuing until about 6pm every single day. Rest was impossible.
We raised this issue repeatedly with reception, including with Luis, and nothing was done. No room change, no meaningful attempt to resolve it, not even an acknowledgement of how disruptive it was. Just polite nodding and zero action.
The hotel is very strict when it comes to enforcing its payment and no-cancellation policy within 14 days, yet shows little interest in honouring guests once they have your money. That is not customer service.
Our flight was delayed by an extra day and under normal circumstances we would have stayed on. Instead, we could not wait to leave.
The hotel itself is dated, tired, and poorly managed, but the worst part by far is the complete lack of care for guests. Awful experience from start to finish. Absolutely unacceptable.
You'll have to be very fit to stay at this hotel, steep hill to and from the hotel. No transport provided up to the hotel with all your luggage, we are a retired couple and there was no warning about a steep climb, especially when you're dropped off at the bottom with all your luggage. Hotel itself is nice but wouldn't stay here again because of the very steep climb.
Had a great 2 weeks in the Dorisol Mimosa , rooms was ideal for 2 of us , good sized bathroom and well equipped kitchen with everything we needed, nice balcony overlooking pool, hotel facilities were excellent and we used the Spa area a few times as sadly weather wasn’t to great. Good location bit of a steep hill up to hotel but if you cut through other hotel breaks up the climb , plus it does get easier as you get used to it 🙂. All the staff at the hotel were great , friendly and attentive , big thanks to the room cleaner who came in every day so we had a nice clean room to come back to. Hotel is in a good location with a 20 min walk into Funchal but at night time there is plenty to do nearer to the hotel, thanks Dorisol Mimosa for a great holiday 👍
I stayed at this hotel in Funchal for a week in June and had a very enjoyable experience. The view from the balcony was beautiful, and the amenities suited my needs. The hotel is on a steep hill, so it's worth keeping in mind if you have walking difficulties. I also enjoyed the walk down to Funchal's centre. The promenade and few lidos are within walking distance - i even walked to Praia Formosa. The hotel was a great base for exploring the area.
