The Hotel do Centro invites you to start your day by enjoying a delicious buffet breakfast in the hotel s welcoming breakfast room. A scrumptious jump-start to your day Every day between 07:30 10:00, the Hotel do Centro serves an attractive spread of scrumptious morning treats including a variety of fresh breads, cereal, cheese, ham, jams, juices, milk, coffee and tea. For lunch and dinner, make your way to the neighbouring Hotel Windsor and sample savoury examples of traditional Madeiran gastronomy, followed by a taste of the island s famous poncha drink at the bar. Guests who wish to enjoy these services are required to make reservations in advance (full-board or half-board). The Hotel Windsor serves lunch between 12:30 14:30 and dinner from 19:00 22:00. If you prefer to lunch or dine in Funchal s historic centre during your holiday, our staff will be happy to suggest the best restaurants in the area where you can sample some of Madeira s most renowned specialities, such as its exquisite tuna steak, the exotic scabbard fish with banana or the unique pork with wine and garlic.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
A loiça estava toda suja e molhada.
There are no outlets to charge phones. There is only one in the bathroom and another where the refrigerator is plugged in.
The breakfast is bad. Probably one of the worst I've ever seen. This comment is not picky, it is genuinely bad. I could talk about the lack of options or the quality of the products, but it's not just that. There is a lack of cleanliness; when I started picking up the dishes, I felt disgusted. The dishes were all dirty and wet. There was an employee washing the dishes by hand almost right next to the customers and giving them the dishes still all wet because there weren't enough for the customers. As for the lack of quality, even the bread is really bad, something so simple that it's hard to understand. I won't even mention the variety; it has the bare minimum for a Portuguese breakfast (nothing international at all).
The air conditioning in the room didn't work well.
As for the bed, the mattress was very old, and you can see a picture of the mattress attached, which speaks for itself.
The room didn't have a kettle.
The bathroom light was malfunctioning.
There is a noticeable lack of interest from the hotel in evolving and improving small things that do not require significant investment and that would greatly improve the quality of the guests' stay.
The location is great, right in the center and next to a supermarket. Friendly staff.
I stayed in this place a year ago and what a dirrence! The personnel is really rude. Cleaning is not done properly! The breakfast lady has long hair and they are just in the food too.. she is late and coughing to the food.. not nice at all. Will not go again!
Awful service and reception, booking system doesn't work. We booked on line , arrived and they had triple booked our room ,we were met with ,we are full ,the woman at reception was shouting at us to move on ,she refused to give my money back which was paid in full and didn't care ,our bolt driver got out to help and she was shouting at him as well . Shocking service .
This hotel is 30 years old and needs modernising! WiFi poor, one plug in room. Air con not working when we arrived but reception did not tell us or give any indication of when it would be fixed! Had to ask for a fan and glasses for water! No kettle or any water provided! Breakfast very poor, cheese and salami at its cheapest, but there was porridge there! No toaster or microwave! Had to walk to sister hotel two mins away for evening meal! Don’t bother very poor! We only ate there twice and went out into town for the rest of our stay!
Even though it’s very central it’s noisy at night! Do not recommend you stay at this hotel!
I stayed at the Hotel do Centro for three weeks via a Jet2 package holiday. On arrival, and throughout my stay, all of the staff at this hotel were really nice and friendly, always saying hello or good morning, with one member of staff even welcoming me in the morning by name. The cleaning staff do a wonderful job with the room cleaned and towels changed every day of my stay. Again the staff at breakfast were also friendly with a morning, Bom Dia.
The room itself was basic but with a comfortable bed and air conditioning. The shower was powerful with instant hot water. What I liked best, having stayed in Funchal five times previously, was how quiet it was at night compared to every other place I have stayed.
With regards to things that could improved:
there is only a single power socket in the room. Thankfully, I had read reviews before staying and took my own trailing socket with me which meant no issue.
no kettle or coffee making facility in room. In all the hotels I have ever stayed, ie hundreds, this is the first time there has been no kettle. As someone who drinks several cups of coffee per day, I had to regularly go out for a coffee which ended up more expensive than it should have been. Come on Hotel do Centro, a kettle should be a minimum requirement!!!
it was suggested during my stay that I would need to move room part-way through my stay. This was unacceptable but thankfully resolved without the need to move.
the breakfast is almost exactly the same every day. When staying a few days, or perhaps even a week, this may be fine but three weeks of the same cheese slices, same processed meat, etc. got very boring.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely, yes but I would be wanting a kettle next time.
