Amazing, fabulous hotel but avoid the Iris bar!
This is an amazing hotel! I'd recommend it to anyone. It's beautiful, spotless, the breakfast is amazing and the staff on reception were wonderful. Rooms are fantastic.
The Iris bar is very nice. However, on night one I was given wonderful service and lots of snacks from q fantastic barman whereas today (17.5.26) there was a new person serving - a bald, miserable, unpleasant man. I asked for a Baileys, he ignored me. He gave me about 5 nuts with my first order! Compared to the previous server it was very disappointing and next time I visit Madeira I'll be avoiding this bar. Quite a frustrating end to my stay in the hotel actually as he really was not very nice.
A real gem in Funchal
Excellent location and a comfortable hotel with attentive and helpful staff. Plenty of quiet spaces to enjoy unique views from delightful roof top pool deck. Real boutique feel plus delicious food.
Outstanding!
Cannot find fault with this most beautiful hotel in the heart of Funchal down a quiet side street. À la carte restaurant serves delicious food with excellent staff. Housekeeping do an amazing job keeping the hotel spotlessly clean. There are lovely seating areas, a good bar, rooftop pool/terrace with the best views. Our room was lovely with balcony overlooking courtyard, nice comfy bed and lovely bathroom with good size shower, good towels and beautiful toiletries. The spa is worth a visit, it’s a must. The designers have done a wonderful job with this historic hotel.

What a gem!
This was our second visit and it did not disappoint. The mix of history, design and architecture round each corner is fabulous . Too many staff to pick out the best. They are all amazing and work very hard to please their guest. If you’re reading this review with a view to going….. don’t hesitate!

Wonderful stay at Hotel Castanheiro!
We had a wonderful 5-night stay at Hotel Castanheiro. The building has a beautiful history and it is well located. Our room was spacious, clean, quiet and had everything we needed. We ate breakfast every morning and dinner, a couple of nights, at Tipografia restaurant and enjoyed the delicious selections! The staff, however, were the most important part of our great experience! Thank you, everyone!!
