A Lovely Stay at the Allegro Madeira – Adults Only 🌴☀️
It’s our last day here in Madeira, and we’ve had a fabulous time staying at the Allegro Madeira – Adults Only, in the Lido area of Funchal. One of the biggest highlights has been the pool area. When you’re holidaying with your hubby without the family, there’s something rather lovely about being able to relax by a pool without inflatables flying around and other people’s children splashing about! 😂 The adults-only setting is a real bonus and something we’ve particularly appreciated. The staff deserve a huge mention. From the welcome at check-in to the team who work so hard to keep everything clean and tidy, the service has been superb. Everyone has been attentive, friendly and genuinely keen to help. Our suite was contemporary, bright and welcoming, with a colourful sofa and futon. In hindsight, I suspect the hotel might wish they’d chosen darker upholstery, given the challenge of keeping bright fabrics looking pristine, but the overall feel of the suite was lovely. There’s a coffee station, complimentary soft drinks in the fridge, and shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided in the bathroom. The bed was a fabulous super king, and the pillow menu was a great touch for getting a comfortable night’s sleep. The location is excellent, right in the heart of the Lido area, with a short Bolt ride or taxi into central Funchal. There are also some fantastic restaurants nearby, including several highly rated ones. My tip would be to check TripAdvisor before heading out, as there are some real gems in the surrounding area. On a personal note, I want to give a special thank you to the reception team. I made the rookie mistake of forgetting to apply mosquito repellent on our first night and ended up with a nasty bite that developed into early cellulitis, complete with a huge blister. The reception team immediately organised a bag of ice and arranged for a doctor to come to the hotel. Within an hour, I’d been seen in my room and had a prescription issued. When you’re away from home and something like this happens, that level of care and efficiency makes all the difference. Thank you! ❤️ Breakfast was another lovely surprise. The buffet exceeded our expectations, which is saying something given that we’ve eaten in some beautiful restaurants around the world. The fresh fruit, range of yoghurts, and omelette and pancake stations were particular favourites. Once again, the staff were attentive and nothing seemed too much trouble. We also loved the rooftop bar. Watching the sun go down with a large glass of sangria in hand, surrounded by those stunning views, was just fabulous. 🍹🌅 It’s the perfect spot to unwind at the end of the day. I think the greatest compliment you can pay any hotel is to say you’d return, and we absolutely would. I’ll admit I’m usually a five-star resort kind of gal, but I think the Allegro has found its winning formula. It’s comfortable, well located, has superb staff and offers that adults-only atmosphere that makes a couples’ holiday feel like a proper escape. We’ve had a wonderful stay, and we’ll definitely be back. Thank you, Allegro! ❤️🌴
Lovely wee hotel in a good location
The allegro is well located near to public swimming facilities, bars and restaurants. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Areas are clean and tidy, room was well tended to.
Our junior suite had a small balcony overlooking the sea and the pool area. And a second smaller balcony overlooking other rooms and buildings. Hotel is situated near a busy road but on the 8th floor the noise wasn't intrusive.
Bed was comfortable with a selection of pillows a nice touch. Toilet area could do with a few more shelves, but the shower was excellent.
Large smart TV allowed us to stream from our own Netflix on our phone.
Air con allowed us to keep the room down to 18 degrees when needed.
Breakfasts were tasty with freshly made pancakes, fried eggs and omelettes a nice touch. Buffet had a good selection of just about everything you'd expect.
We ate dinner one night and it was also a buffet but very well presented. A decent option for those wanting to stay in . Unremarkable when compared to the local eateries though.
The are games and a small library in public areas, as well as decent WiFi for streaming.
Pool area was good and never busy. Pool was clean and good for a quick dip. We did not try ordering from the app because frankly the bar is just a few steps from the poolside.
Rooftop bar gave excellent views across the water, and lovely views of the sunsets.
When we had a medical issue, staff were excellent, advising and arranging everything for us. Couldn't have asked for more from them.

Overall excellent stay
I have been to different hotels in the area before but never Allegro. As my first holiday abroad with my other half we wanted to go to a hotel with no children and honestly we couldn't have picked a better hotel. The reception staff were professional and friendly, the bar and wait staff were helpful and friendly, the pool was beautiful, the room was always kept spotless, the views were of the sea and the mountains and the location is perfect for tourists. Overall a perfect holiday.

Hotel sits on steep hill may be an issue for those with limited mobility
Stayed for a week late September. Hotel is advertised with Jet2 Holidays as 4* adults only. Check in was ok. We had booked a Suite with Sea View. 'Suite' was pushing it - what we got was a space with bed, TV, badly stained sofa and 2 poor quality bedside tables. No wardrobe or dressing table with mirror just a open hanging space with some drawers - 4* really! In the tiny space that was our sitting area was a tiny chaise longue with barely room for 2 to sit which had not access to the TV and faced onto the fridge/coffee machine and the bathroom door. There was a window with a view of large air conditioning units. The room had detritus under the sofa when we arrived and it was still there when we left a week later. Stains and marks on bathroom mirror were also there for a week. Robes were provided but no slippers so we had to keep socks on when walking around the room - our socks were filthy after a few hours which suggests floors and rugs were rarely cleaned. Our tiny balcony did have a sea view but was furnished with a tiny table and cheap, uncomfortable plastic chairs - not too inviting to sit and chill in. Poolside was shabby and we noticed detritus on poolside and grass when we arrived which was still there when we left 7 days later. Smoking areas when they did have ashtrays were usually full and overflowing. Poolside app for ordering drinks only worked once during our stay and bar staff mentioned problem with app are ongoing. Breakfast was bland with tough bacon and cold eggs - both boiled and fried eggs were cold - fried eggs were congealed. Rooftop bar is a nice space however for one night of the week it was open to a local dance club who completely dominated the bar area - no consideration given to hotel guests - again, not what you expect from a 4* experience. Whilst some staff were generally nice and friendly others made you feel like you were interrupting their day. Check out day - no guest courtesy rooms available to shower/change - we had to shower in communal shower area in the gym - no hairdryers or privacy!
There is building work going on in the area which some may find disruptive. Hotel is off busy main road and can be noisy.
In my opinion this hotel is 2/3* at best - not a relaxing experience and certainly not a luxury break.

Lovely hotel
The hotel is fabulous, the staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good with lots of choice. The room was fabulous with a pool and sea view. I would definately recommend this hotel, and will definately return.
