- Savoy Saccharum Resort and Spa

This up-scale and refined hotel enjoys a privileged positioned in the west coast of the island of Madeira, in Calheta. The classy property is set a few steps from the marina and the impressive sandy beach. As the hotel is built where there used to be an old sugar cane mill, the current decoration is based on this concept. Guests will be able to be pampered at the guest rooms and suites that are tastefully appointed in an elegant and modern look. They are generously proportioned and some of them even include a private balcony with panoramic views to the sea. The hotel offers an incredible array of useful and superior services and facilities that feature a complete spa and wellness centre with a fantastic indoor swimming pool to relax while children have fun at the children's Playroom or at the outdoor splash pool.
Saccharum exceeded my expectations which was a pleasant surprise. The staff were welcoming and any request was dealt with a smile. The buffet breakfast set us up for a days hiking and it was fabulous to come back to the hotel at the end of the day and relax by one of the pools or at the spa. The gym had plenty of modern equipment and was clean. The rooms were spacious and modern. We had a great 4 days at Saccharum.
Mixed reviews for this hotel. The planting in and around the hotel is outstanding and very considerate throughout. The infinity pool area is nice and spread out but the 40€ fee for a sunbed around the pool feels extortionate. Rooms are average but very clean with good bed linen and toiletries. The servicing of the room was excellent. Food average for breakfast, we have had much better even in lower star hotels. The buffet dinner was very poor with a lack of fresh/hot food and choice, drinks very expensive. There are some excellent restaurants a 5 minute walk away at the marina. There are a lot of reviews about the friendliness of staff, we found most staff (exception the ladies that cleaned the rooms) stand offish and it sometimes felt like it was an inconvenience to ask for a drink in the bars. Beach bar served great food but expensive. This hotel could be outstanding if several things were improved. It feels like they charge guests for extras wherever possible, beware tips are added onto your final bill at checkout for all drinks/meals Good location and Madiera is a stunning destination.
NOT WORTH IT ! They rip you off
Parking cost 13 euro pr day Sunbed 35 euro pr day One shirt cleaned 11 euro
Evening buffet so dry you vant eat it We have many ants in our room ( 6th ) floor And the fruit In the room is rotten !!!
All the staff and facilities are amazing. Thanks for the luxury experience
Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and would like to start by saying that the food was excellent throughout our visit, and the staff were truly outstanding. Every member of the team we interacted with was friendly, professional, and eager to help, which made a very positive impression on us.
As this was our first visit to Madeira, we would certainly like to return in the future. However, there are a few areas that we feel could be improved and are worth considering.
Upon arrival, the suite did not appear to have been cleaned to the standard we would have expected. There were visible soap and limescale marks in both the shower and sink, and several amenities that are typically expected in a suite of this category were missing, including shower caps, a dental kit, and a shoehorn.
The minibar fridge was also not functioning correctly and was warm throughout our stay. We requested a bucket of ice as a result and were surprised to find that this was charged to our room, despite the fridge not being able to keep items cool.
In addition, some of the furniture within the suite showed significant signs of wear and tear, with scuffs and marks visible on several doors and surfaces. The bedroom doors were also not closing properly. When we moved one of the stools in the living area, we found a considerable amount of dust underneath, along with a cork that had clearly been left behind by a previous guest. These details gave the impression that the room had not been thoroughly cleaned prior to our arrival.
One further point that we feel should be communicated more clearly is the distance between reception and some of the suites. The walk to our room was considerably longer than anticipated, and we believe guests should be informed of this before booking, particularly those with mobility concerns or significant luggage.
We share this feedback constructively, as we genuinely enjoyed many aspects of our stay and can see the potential of the property. The quality of the food and the exceptional service provided by your team were highlights of our visit. We would be very happy to return to Madeira and to your hotel in the future, but we felt it was important to bring these points to your attention so they can be considered and addressed for future guests.
