The hotel is suitable both for cycling breaks and welcomes cyclists from all over the world; furthermore, the establishment offers a beautiful spa and wellness centre for the utmost rest and relaxation at the end of the day. This is an elegant destination where to spend one's holidays at the Algarve, where elegant flats are offered. They boast a delightful and unique atmosphere and boast impressive, panoramic views from the balconies.

Fabulous hotel!
The hotel is located just along from the harbour area of Vilamoura and very close to the beach. The hotel is outstanding in all areas. It is kept spotlessly clean and our room was perfect. Breakfast was included in our stay and you could not have wished for a greater choice.

Second time as good as the first?
This was a return visit to the Crowne Plaza, after a couples visit in 2025. Sometimes returning to a hotel proves disappointing but not in this case.
The hotel continues to be well run. It's exceptionally clean throughout. The bedrooms are spacious and well serviced by the housekeeping staff. The menus are excellent and although we were on a bed and breakfast tariff, we frequently ate lunch on site and had dinner towards the end of our stay. The latter proved to be excellent.
The general ambience was good but as a grumpy old man, there were too many children/teenagers for my liking. Although we booked the same week as in 2025, perhaps schools finished earlier this year.
Drinks costs were similar to those around the marina itself. However, the poolside bar disappointed once again. Service at your sun bed was non-existent across the week. If you wanted a drink, you simply had to go to the bar itself. Perhaps after the imminent rebrand, this may change going forward.
The only other gripe was that I made the mistake of booking our rooms on the Quarteira side this year. If you're in a room from X01 to X07 (where X is the floor number), you have a great view of the breakfast restaurant roof complete with large quantities of what comes out the back end of seagulls, of which there are many! You also have a great view of various building sites, complete with eight cranes.
Overall, a thoroughly good break. We may return.

Overpriced and lacking the basics
We stayed at the Crowne Plaza two years ago and had a really enjoyable holiday, so we booked again expecting the same experience. Unfortunately, it just isn’t the hotel we remembered.
The biggest issue happened on our very first day. We nipped to lunch for around 25 minutes, came back and all of our belongings had been removed from our sunbeds – towels, sunglasses, everything. The signs clearly state that belongings will only be removed after 45 minutes, so we were well within that time. When we questioned the staff, nobody seemed to know where our things were and it took around 30 minutes before my wife eventually found everything hidden under a towel in the towel hut. That really isn’t the welcome you expect at a five-star hotel.
I don’t normally leave reviews unless somewhere is either outstanding or really disappoints me, but there were quite a few things that fell short this time.
The hotel seems to charge for absolutely everything. A game of pool is €9.50 for one hour, which I’ve genuinely never come across before in any hotel. Bottled water is €4.50 each, yet in the Victoria Hotel in the Algarve they had free filtered water stations available for guests all around the hotel. In this heat, providing drinking water feels like the bare minimum for a five-star resort. Instead, it feels like every little thing is designed to make you spend more money. The only positive is that the staff were always happy to provide plenty of ice free of charge.
Lunch by the pool was also expensive. We paid €55 for two adults and one child sharing just two meals. The portions were huge, so the value wasn’t terrible, but overall food and drinks soon add up. Over a 10-night stay you could easily spend another €1,000 or more on top of the holiday price.
The rooms are looking quite tired now. I understand there’s a refurbishment planned for November and hopefully that includes the rooms because they definitely need bringing up to modern standards.
The kids’ club was another disappointment. It’s more a couple of staff doing activities around the children’s pool than an actual kids’ club. What really concerned me was hearing one of the staff speaking quite abruptly to my daughter when they thought I wasn’t nearby. I was sitting just around the corner and as soon as I made myself known, their attitude changed completely. That wasn’t acceptable.
For us, the biggest problem is the value for money. We paid around £4,000 for 10 nights, bed and breakfast, for two adults and one child in August. By the time you’ve added food, drinks and all the extras, it’s an incredibly expensive holiday. On top of that, there’s very little atmosphere, hardly any entertainment, and you even have to pay to use the indoor pool.
If this holiday had cost £2,000-£2,500, I’d probably overlook a lot of these issues and even consider returning. At £4,000, I simply can’t justify it. There are much better options in the Algarve offering far more for your money.
It’s disappointing because we genuinely enjoyed staying here before, but sadly this visit will almost certainly be our last unless some big changes are made.
Crown Plaza June '26
We stayed at the Crown Plaza for a week in June '26 with our 3YO. The hotel is great, every member of staff without exception was friendly, polite and helpful. We would particularly like to thank Susana and the team in the restaurant for frankly being brilliant and looking after our little girl (OJs & ice-cream) in what's probably a more adult than family environment. The food in the restaurant is excellent. If we had one niggle, the kids pool / pirate ship could do with a refresh, but overall a great holiday. If you've read a negative review, it probably says more of the traveller than the hotel. Wouldn't hesitate in staying again or recommending. Thank you!

Great hotel and location
Great location for both the beach and the marina. Hotel communal areas and our room were both very clean. We had a slight issue on our first day with sunbeds not being available due to people reserving for hours on end and not using them, and we didn’t think there were enough sunbeds for the size of the hotel and number of guests. We also had an issue on our last night where our air con stopped working during the night. However when both issues were reported to reception it was dealt with professionally and efficiently. We would be happy to stay here again.
