Fantastic location, great staff, room needs updating
Stayed for a few days before moving to a villa nearby. Staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. Good : location, very close to the beach and the nearby restaurants/bars/beach club could not be better. View from the pool is fantastic, looking out to sea. Pool is very pool, great size, clean and perfect temp for September. Pool bar was fantastic, great choice of food, staff were very friendly and always quick to serve. Perfect location for golf. Not so good : the rooms were dated and in desperate need of modernization. We did mention this to reception as friends had told us the updated rooms were very nice. unfortunately they just put us in a bigger room, which also needed updating. as we were only there a few days it didn't matter and we were fine. Overall it is highly recommended, just ensure you get an updated room.

Perfect location & Amazing staff
Amazing hotel with everything you need! The fact that you don’t need a car to go to the beach or to go eat or have a drink it’s priceless! You can really just relax and enjoy. The room was perfect! Very modern (great refurbishment done recently). The hotel pool has a great view to the sea (photo).
Very disappointing experience – poor customer service and lack of care
Very disappointing experience – poor customer service and lack of care
I was staying at the hotel with a group of friends, and unfortunately our experience was far from what we expected.
On arrival, I was allocated a Classic Room which overlooked a roof full of very noisy air-conditioning units. The constant noise made the room unpleasant, so I raised this with the hotel. To their credit, they did move me to a more suitable room, which I appreciated. However, there was no apology or acknowledgement that the original room was unsuitable, which I found disappointing.
Unfortunately, this was not the only issue during our stay.
One of our party experienced something extremely unpleasant and unsettling when a handwritten note was left on her balcony, including a phone number and an explicit invitation for a sexual encounter. Her room was on a lower floor overlooking the golf course, so the fact that someone had approached or accessed her balcony was particularly concerning from a security and privacy perspective.
What shocked us most was the hotel’s response when this was reported.
The receptionist’s initial response was to ask whether my friend had been out looking for men. This was an incredibly inappropriate and insensitive question to ask someone who had reported an unwanted and distressing incident. We were a group of women travelling together, and we expected the hotel to show empathy and take the matter seriously.
The situation became even more disappointing when the manager, Manuel Baltazar, eventually became involved. He only made contact after being pressed to do so, and his manner came across as dismissive and unsympathetic. Rather than showing concern or trying to understand how distressed my friend was, there appeared to be very little recognition of the seriousness of the situation.
After approximately 15 minutes of being asked to address the matter, he eventually apologised, but the apology felt reluctant rather than genuine.
For me, the biggest disappointment was the overall lack of customer care. From being initially allocated a room overlooking noisy air-conditioning units, to the way a very serious and distressing incident involving another guest was handled, there seemed to be a lack of empathy and attention to the guest experience.
I would have expected an apology and a much more caring approach throughout our stay.
Sadly, based on our experience, I would not choose to stay at this hotel again and would not be recommending it to women travelling alone.
Just a lovely place to stay in a lovely area of the Algarve
This was my third time in the hotel. It really is lovely. Spotlessly clean, very helpful and responsive staff, has a great restaurant that easily rivals many of the others in the area, a lovely pool and great golf offers.

Our experience at Dona Filipa Hotel was absolutely wonderful! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth, professionalism, and genuine Portuguese hospitality. The hotel has a special charm, combining elegance, comfort, and a beautiful atmosphere that makes every moment feel memorable.
The staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and helpful, always going the extra mile to ensure a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The rooms were comfortable and well maintained, and the overall standard of cleanliness and service was excellent.
The location in the beautiful Vale do Lobo area is fantastic, offering a wonderful setting for a peaceful and luxurious getaway in the Algarve. The surroundings, atmosphere, and attention to detail made our stay even more special.
What truly stood out was the excellent hospitality and the feeling of being genuinely cared for throughout our visit. Dona Filipa Hotel is a wonderful choice for anyone looking for quality, comfort, and a memorable holiday in Portugal.
A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for making our stay so enjoyable. We absolutely loved our stay that we have just booked to return in 3 weeks time!
