This excellent and luxurious “pousada” sits in a historical and interesting building that was erected on the sixteenth century and served as a convent. The property is conveniently positioned in the historical city centre, within easy reach from the main important sightseeing points of interest such as Santa Maria Church, a few steps away. Staying at this accommodation option will always be a great experience, as some of the bedrooms have been completely refurbished from cells, exuding a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere. All of them offer modern amenities for a truly pleasant stay, including air-conditioning, wireless Internet connection to keep updated and a safe. During their stay, visitors may pamper themselves at the on-site facilities, with the possibility to rest at the spa with a massage and to taste mouth-watering local dishes of the Algarve region made with fresh produce.

Lovely historic hotel
Things stated badly. At check-in we discovered the beautiful courtyard in this historic building was being dug up by archaeologists forced on the hotel by the local government and with little notice and no warning to guests. This ruined our enjoyment of this wonderful part of the hotel, although the water fountain continued to run and the noise did reduce a lot. As we relaxed into our stay the calm, tranquillity and wonderful service of the staff took over and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Breakfast was superb, with freshly squeezed orange juice and a huge selection of food. Our bedroom was very nice with a comfortable bed and good air conditioning. It was also quiet, apart from the church bells ringing one morning at 8am. The location is excellent with good access to all the key sites on foot. We joined the Saturday 10am yoga class in the adjacent church hall, which was well attended and fun. The pool area and gardens are also excellent. I am not sure it’s classic five-star luxury but nevertheless a lovely hotel.

Hard to beat
Close to city centre- beautiful historic convent- large comfortable rooms-friendly staff-excellent food!
Perfect stay
Pousada Convento Tavira met my expectations and then went far beyond. From the warm welcome from Alex to the beautiful spotless room and hotel full of history and charm. Our breakfast was included and was served in the dinning room in 5 star style. Eggs to order, on the last day I had an omelet with ham, cheese and onion and it was delicious. The pool area sits beside a castle wall. 3-5 minute walk to the roman bridge and downtown hub. We will absolutely stay here again without any hesitation.

Couldn't be better.....
Such luck to have discovered Pousada Convento Tavira. This magnificent historic building has been turned into such a wonderfully comfortable place to stay, it's a joy to be there. A big thank you to all the staff who made us feel so welcome. We can't wait to return!
