Luar Hotel

This is our 2nd visit to Hotel Luar. I can honestly say it’s the best hotel for location, straight out from the pool onto Praia Da Rocha strip overlooking the beach. The atmosphere at the hotel is very friendly and the staff are great. Rooms are spotless and cleaned aevety day with fresh towels.
Great value for money and we are definitely returning next year. We always go in September. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby and two supermarkets

We had a wonderful holiday at hotel Luar. Its a great location, lovely pool and a nice breakfast. Rooms are dated and the lighting is poor but eveything is spotlessly clean. I would definitely go there again 😁

I was attending a wedding on the Sunday and found a flight and hotel deal Saturday - Monday for £249 (with breakfast) and then decided to stay till the Wednesday which to my surprise was only £279 (still with breakfast!) Please bear this cost in mind.

I had read the reviews and saw they were mixed so was a bit apprehensive, but when my uber pulled up the place looked better than I anticipated. Into the lobby looked very impressive and the check-in guy was very friendly (it was around 10:30pm) and he advised that most of the nearby restaurants would be closing but the hotel bar was open for another hour if I wanted a drink. (I did!). A jug of sangria €21 which I thought was reasonable - and very tasty too (the first of several of my stay)

Onto the room itself - very basic - but again, remember what I paid - but I was suprised it included a fridge so that was a bonus! Air con was suprisingly decent as well (I’ve stayed in some hot countries where the air con was barely noticeable). The bathroom is your run of the mill hotel bathroom, but again, to be expected.

Breakfast - I’d seen in the reviews it was “uninspired” and “basic” so this was the real test for me - especially as I was vegetarian! But again, for the price I paid I can’t help but wonder what people are expecting? Scrambled egg, beans mushrooms, boiled eggs, cheeses, fruit, yogurts, toast, tinned peaches, croissants and cereals. I was sorted. There is also bacon, I would say it was odd no sausages but it didn’t affect me. Obviously it’s not Michelin starred but it does its job.

Overall I was very happy with my stay. Is it the best hotel in the world ? No but it doesn’t set out to be. Bottom line I paid under £300 and got flights, a 4 night stay and breakfast and none of it was average.

If you’re staying nearby I would recommend Kovdal Indian Resraurant and Tapas O DesTapas restaurants. Both did great meals and are relatively cheap too! I didn’t eat food in the hotel outside the breakfasts but the portion of fish and chips we saw a guy order looked very generous.

Pool is open till 9 which is unlike most places. Bar opens at 11am and bar staff friendly (I think I became infamous for ordering sangria’s in my short stay)
